The largest Viking ship sailing in modern times, Draken Harald Hårfagre, sailed into New York City harbor September 17 2016. She left Haugesund, Norway, April 26 2016 and sailed across the North Atlantic Ocean to America just like the Vikings did a thousand years ago. Isn't she beautiful?

The world’s largest Viking ship, the Norwegian Draken Harald Hårfagre, will be docking in New York City September 17-26. She has...

Draken in the North Sea storm

Sometimes it is hard to imagine that this was just a couple of months ago. Draken and her crew have been through storms on the North Atlantic Ocean. What an achievement, sailing from Norway, to Shetland Islands, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland - just like the Vikings did a 1000 years ago, and into the St Lawrence Seaway, trough the locks and into the Great Lakes. She made it, it...

In the bow Draken has 3 runes inscripted, Algiz that protects from all dangers, Tiwaz that stands for victory and strenght and radio that stands for communication and travel. The runes will give the ship protection and fair winds. In every port Draken visits we try to have her available for the public to come visit, see all the ornamentations and decorations, and experience her greatness.

A 1000 years ago the Vikings landed North America and Newfoundland. The first of June 2016 the modern Vikings on Draken did the same.

You really have to love sailing for being there. Yeks!
Best thing to do in a storm is take your mind off it. Sharpen your axe. 😈
Where’s Floci ?
Which one is Floci ?
Floci would be proud !
Переборешь море - там и с людьми драться не страшно
Couldn't see many oars, there was supposed to be a hundred men with two each to 50 oars. Oh well I suppose that Leif Ericsson invented the diesel engine hundreds of years before anyone else on his way to discover the America's hundreds of years before Columbus
Fasinerende😀
A draken or dragon in mystic, doesn’t get any better than this.... oh yes it does! "No special memories because it doesn’t do justitice to all the other special memories"...... that's the spirit! Never let a good memory become a lesser good memory because of better or more memories.. a good memory is a good memory... period.... just enjoy... just that... looking forward to see more of you guys and this project.... missed it.....
I'm so excited right now to see a new video on this amazing and magnificent Dragon and her crew! ♥♥♥
Y’all haven’t posted in so long I had notifications on and I’m so glad to see more post in the future! Thank you for your information and amazing shots 😮🫡☝️
" Release the Draken! "
Beware of the dragon. She twists and turns through the heavy seas, heading to strange new lands.
Looking forward to see more of the awesome Draken and her hardy crew ❤
Oh man I would have barfing my brains out.
All those deck knees along the gun'ls to trip over....
I get so sea sick. I would have been barfing my brains out for sure. Which is surprising considering I’m 30% Swedish and 25% Norwegian. You’d think I’d have better sea legs from my sea faring ancestors. But nope! Quite the opposite.
They stopped making the ɓig ships when they found the undiscovered land was full of newfies
Having the shields along the sides would have added more protection. Possibly lashed in place. I think they also closed off those oar holes. Some Deck boards were loose to allow bailing. Goods were stored below. Being so wide it didn't require a keel. Really moves.
!!!😊
Absolutely womderbar! Thx so much.
What a gorgeous ship! She handles the seas with grace and eqse.
Achtung Asterix die Normannen kommen. 😬
explorers those past days had nerves of steel. Today this Draken is equipped with many modern appliances
💞Wow🧡💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
Were the Viking ships that big though?
3rd of June, and still snow in the background
This is spectacular footage! I am working on a video about my immigrant ancestors, I have a section that talks about them sailing through storms on the way over. Is there any chance that I could use a 15 second clip from this? I would be happy to credit and link to your channel!
My God! What testicular fortitude those guys must have had back then: they didn’t know that land might even be ahead.
So cool 💪🏻👍🏻😍
Go back NY SUX
"the sea is my mother, she'll never take me back to her murky womb"
Vinland Saga be like:
Fullspeed Linseed
Worms at work! Look at her twist, heave ho, we'll be in Vik or Valhalla.
Looks like a dumpy Rosemary's Baby type wedding.
What a beautiful ship!
Когда выйдет ролик, где они церковь грабят?
Lindisfarne aint ready
Not a north sea storm just the north sea.
Most civil Viking arrival ever😂
I watched 37 sec of that and now understand the romance, true sailors of the sea must feel, those that feel more comfortable out there doing that, than anywhere else,, the Sea , pardome MSA, it scares the crap out of me,, !!!!! It's too much!
Primal. I love it.
IF a bunch of Norwegians say its cold. It probably REALLY freakn cold
Me be vomiting my brains out 🤢
This is all wonderful and beautiful. HOWEVER, the music in these videos do not fit the glory, grit and power of this boat, and our ancestors. It is painful. Please consider including music fit for such a boat and its love for the ocean and the plunder to be had......Just a thought I wanted to pass on.
Be more realistic if they sail to the uk and sack a village or monastery and return with loot to norway.
The benefits of reefing early,
Respekt 💪🏻
Why aren’t they rowing?
