Art Vlog: a weekend at the seaside, drawing pelicans and resting
In between multiple projects and getting my calendars sorted for pre-order, I spent a weekend at the seaside with my sister. Not only was it a beautiful trip, but I also felt that I had a small breakthrough in regards to switching off my productive-mode, and why I find this so difficult.
And in the usual way of such things, give up and you shall receive.. I now feel newly inspired by this feeling, and the pelicans that made their way up and down the coast; who were in no rush to do anything at all.

What a perfect week this was, fully immersed in feelings of the sea. I made some sketches and three small paintings of the merfolk, as I imagined them sprawled on these beautiful dark rocks (and I filmed as often as I remembered:) This was my first time taking my new pochade box out to paint (you can see me make it in the last video), and I couldn't be happier with it. It was so sturdy and func...

Hey guys, I hope you're all enjoying whatever season you are in! I finally got around to making my very own pochade box for some low-hassle outdoor painting. This is something I've been wanting (and not buying) for a while now, as I find them quite expensive, especially when they are often not suited to my mediums/workflow etc. I'm leaving tomorrow stay at the ocean for a week, and bring this b...

Burnout is tricky and I only say this because it is more mental gymnastic than it is physical burnout. In my personal opinion I feel the best way to combat that is to accept and let go. Emotions are often tied to experience…I mean obviously. Often times emotion (especially negative ones) feed onto the experience and will drag you out of the moment and hyper-focus on the details at hand. It’s something every artist does where we put ourselves in a mental block over ridiculous comparison and obscenely high pedestals that we wouldn’t give another..it happens so often we too can lose ourselves in the joys of what made us fall in love with art, the idea of being carefree. Art is a way of conveying life onto the paper through our eyes and no one perspective will ever be perfect..let alone one to one. As no tree is of the same height nor is there but one color that makes up the grass..life would truthfully be boring if it were perfect. So let go. There’s no standard for you to climb, it is simply you and all your traits that transforms a blank canvas into a window way to your world. That is beautiful isn’t it? Dunno if that made sense but hey hopefully it gave a good laugh at the absurdity or maybe it helped in some way. Can’t wait to see more art!
These vlogs are so fun to watch ❤
I didnt think i would like this unusual compisition , turns out it is absolutely amazing and truly beautiful. Good job
Wonderful vlog!! Love it 😍
Thanks so much!🥹
Those black swans look so rare and beautiful ❤
Aren’t they wonderful!♥️ makes me think I need to so some kind of black swan painting now👀
Everything about your process was interesting to follow along with, including how you set the mood by kind of low-key acting it out. In model-mode, you had the perfect aesthetic to make the character come alive in the reference. The stages of the sketch, then the painting unfolded beautifully, piggybacking on the inspo pieces, but still with your own voice and style. The bookmark painting from the reference which didn't make the painting sounds like a lot of fun too. The bug bite sounds awful, so I hope over time the relapses lessen. Sounds like you might be medicine-averse. I think if it were me, I would consider setting that aside in this case, to see if they could prescribe you an antibiotic to combat the residual toxins. Also, a shout-out to your in-house pianist, for providing some pretty amazing mood-setting music as well.
Love your vids and thanks for sharing ❤
Ohh I’m so glad, thank you for watching!🥹🐚
I love your vlogs
Thank you!
It is so very hard to do nothing. ❤
It really is😅
P.S. the pressure to feel the need to constantly create is not unusual. Recognize it as a sign of your commitment to fulfilling your creativity and have the confidence to inhabit the “fertile void” . I am currently deep cleaning my studio, this is as important as painting because I am setting myself up to succeed by arranging an inviting environment for my work to unfold. Rest is crucial to producing. I love your work and channel.
Oh thank you so much, and for lovely your words 🥹this is uplifting to hear, and I completely agree! Like day and night, finding your inspiration under the moon (and through the rest and calm), and then working and seeing your plans through under the sun. Both are very necessary♥️
I relate to this so much! I don't know how to have a weekend at the moment. Always working 😝
Ugh that’s great (and sad) to hear🥹isn’t it hard to fully stop! I feel like even when I’m relaxing nowadays, I’ll try to be productive- like multitasking while I watch a movie😅
The pelican is such an amazing bird. They look very prehistoric, like a remnant from the Jurassic era. Wonderful.
Ooh you know I’ve never thought of them like that, but how true! 😃Their heads and beaks make me think of terradactyls👀
The level of detail & attention you gave to create this whole vibe is INCREDIBLE. Ahhh my heart is full! Do you think you would ever create a collection of art books? It would be the perfect thing to curl up with on a cozy evening.
I absolutely loooooove this video!!!! Im going to make one, thanks so much 💕🎨💕🎨
Love your paintings soo much and to get to see your creative process is such an inspiration. Thank you ❤
I love this style of painting and was looking for tutorials/videos to learn and get ispiration and this is exactly it, so thank you! You are so good, please keep doing these videos ❤😍 also, where did you learn to draw?
Firstly. OMG! Never heard of those bugs either ( I live in Perth WA) I hope it doesn’t flare up too often. Secondly, love the painting and enjoyed seeing how you put the figure in by taking photos of yourself ❤ Thirdly, yes please to a tutorial on how to edit in procreate. I’m completely computer un savvy but have been considering getting procreate to see what I can do with my own paintings.
Oh thank you!🥹 yes they’re so horrible - be sure to check your garden gloves properly, or maybe don’t leave yours outside like I did😅 I’m glad to hear it, and I’ll be sure to make an editing video soon then, and share more about my reference photo process because I do that a lot I just forget to talk about it much🍂🍃
I love your artwork and videos! I look forward to seeing them.
Oh I’m glad, thank you!♥️
I love your artwork, so beautiful! it was really cool to see how you make your own references, I think it helps translating the more exact image to what you imagined the art to look like
Thank you! And I’m glad to hear that - I think I’d like to share more of my ‘reference-translation-to-art’ process in future, as I do take a lot of my own photos these days for character poses😁
@@laveragrace yay I would love to see it! Your art inspires me a lot <3
this is so inspiring and beautiful, ive been feeling this exact type of way here in aus winter. thank you so much for this creation!!!
Ooh thank you, I’m glad to hear it! And you’re very welcome🥹🍃
You capture atmosphere beautifully what a lovely artwork love your vids 😊
Thank you so much!🥹
That turned out so beautiful!!! ❤ Thank you for the video, made my whole day !
I’m thrilled! Thank you so much🥹
OMIGOSH you Aussies and your wild bugs & spiders! I’m sorry you got bitten-so strange that it comes back at random times. I wonder if you were to take a Benadryl (I think you can take 2) to rest more at night. It’ll calm down the bite/swelling and make you drowsy. Don’t know if you have Benadryl down there. I hope by now it is gone! Wonderful drawing-loved seeing your planning & photography phases leading up to the artwork. THANKS HEAPS!
Ah yes the horrible bugs, this was by far the worst😅 and thank you! I try not to take any medication unless very necessary, but I will keep this in mind now🍃 I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching!😊
Also, congratulations for 3k subscribers!! 🤗🌸✨
Thank you!!😁🍃🌷
I love your videos and your art (video is also art tbh) so much. 🥰 Going over how you edit your work on procreate would be very interesting. This is something I often struggle with. xo
Oh thank you!🥹 righto, I’ll be sure to make an editing video sometime soon🍂
I’d be interested in any videos you would do on using procreate for compositions and editing. Love your artwork!
Thanks so much! Okee dokee, I’ll be sure to make one soon!😊
I very much enjoyed your video and the story telling. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I’m so glad you enjoyed it😊
Beautiful ✨💛 well done, absolutely gorgeous!
Thanks so much!♥️🍃
I don’t personally find the twilight saga remotely eerie or unsettling in the aesthetics, but i adore the painting and the fact it inspired this painting means i will give the saga some credit lol. Eerie, unsettling, haunting, dark art, especially captured in a landscape is the best type of art for me. Great video
Ah yes totally understandable. Now that I think of it, something more like angsty might be a better word😅 I think a lot of the eerie whimsical vibes come from my own interpretation of the places and colours etc. but thanks so much, lovely to hear!😊
Awesome - sorry who was the artist that you mentioned that inspired you?
Thanks! Ida Rentoul😊
I’m not sure what kind of eraser you’re using at this point in the video, but I stopped using kneaded erasers on WC paper and now use only the white Staedtler Mars plastic erasers. I use Arches cold press. Now, my Dad, 88, swears by the pink Pearl eraser, but I find it leaves a wee bit of pink on the paper.
❤❤❤
Lovely video! ❤ I, too, love inking (since the 1970s when my Dad gave me a set of Rapidograph pens) and water coloring in the lines. Every once in a while I do a painting with no ink and I miss the process cass of the inking a much! I figure it’s good for me once in a while to show myself I can do it. Also I have a little orange tabby who looks SOOO much like yours. Her name is Sonsie. Hope you’re having a good year. Happy to have found your channel.
Music is annoying....
Hi Lavera, I've only just seen your video and I think the idea of weaving the hat is fantastic! Could you perhaps explain in more detail how it works with the cardboard and the division? I would love to try this too. By the way, I love your style of drawing. Thank you very much 👍🥰
You’re videos and art are so enchanting and beautiful 💕

Excited to make this palette with my Bob Ross tin😊👍
I respect folklore. It is part of who we are. 🎉😊
I discovered this poem through Loreena McKennit’s song, and it’s one of my favorite poems. Your painting really does it justice, it is so beautiful.
Beautiful work! those tiny faces blow my mind with the level of detailing you achieved!
i love your magical fairy paintings! beautiful and relaxing video, although the volume seemed a bit low at times
This an amazing artwork. Your voice is very soothing. Have a lovely day :)
I support your genuine feelings concerning your art. This is natural continue to go with the flow of all that you feel to accomplish. Enjoy your journey😊
Very beautiful your make colors paint in little box. I like Good idea. ❤️
A beautiful peace of art! The idea of combining painting and poetry with reenactment b-rall is inspired!
I love you story and I like your picture too it's beautiful just like you
Just lovely, I enjoyed watching you painting develop and listening to you recite the poem. Thank you.
All I can ever see in my brain with this poem is Anne Shirley floating away in her sinking boat. This is a gorgeous work of art.
Thanks so much😊 Oh yes! -or at the beginning of the film walking through the trees, reciting dreamily to herself 🍂
just stunning and inspiring
