    Hey Justin! Great to see another video. I've been using my Anvil Foundry for a little over a year and enjoy it for what it is. One thing I've learned about them is that the water between the malt pipe and the kettle wall does not get pulled into the recirculation flow. When you pull the malt pipe at the end of the mash it's like adding a bunch of fresh water into your wort and the gravity will drop. The fix for this is to lift the malt pipe a couple of times during the mash.

    If my beer taste like my conical. Does that mean I need to passivate my conical because I never done that and I only discovered I need to. So is that why my beer has a hint of the conical I fermented it in?

    • @ReactionBrewingCompany
      @ReactionBrewingCompany Před 2 lety

      If you're getting a metallic taste it could need to be cleaned better. They come with a lot of oil in them. Do a hot pbw wash/rinse and then soak the inside really well with citrisurf. It'll clean the oils and passivate the stainless.

Not super hop forward, just enough to make an IPA drinker happy but non IPA drinkers have enjoyed it as well. Definitely a win and I'll be brewing it again on the big system in the spring.

  • @Taras75357
    @Taras75357 Před 2 lety

    I've put the screws in so that the head of the screw is inside the malt pipe. That way, if you use a grain bag inside the malt pipe, you don't rip the grain bag. Stainless steel lock washers help secure the screws better...no loosening of the screws and brackets.

    • @ReactionBrewingCompany
      @ReactionBrewingCompany Před 2 lety

      Give it a go, it is a great way to really get a nice tasting beer. Let it boil for a few hours. I've seen breweries mashing 3-5 times and doing 24 hour boils. Not sure how much the flavor changes but it's pretty fun to play around with

  • @GabeWinter
    @GabeWinter Před 2 lety

    How many gallons are you doing?

  • @Homebrew58
    @Homebrew58 Před 2 lety

    Hey Justin! I ordered the same Foundry last fall so I could brew inside during the winter but it wasn't delivered until May! So I haven't used it yet but I've been collecting a ton of information. One interesting bit I turned up is that the water between the malt pipe and the kettle wall does not get pulled down and into the recirculation flow. It just sits there and will never come into contact with the grain until you lift the malt pipe at the end of the mash. This will lower your post mash gravity. A lot of brewers have been left scratching their heads wondering why their pre boil readings are lower than their post mash readings taken just a moment before. The solution is to lift that malt pipe once or maybe twice during the mash to get all that water mixed together. I may skip the malt pipe altogether ans use a BIAB bag... or source a SS mesh basket that will fit the Anvil.
