49:58 - In this case it's not actually a "performance" issue. For whatever reason, Nintendo _added_ that "lag" in, intentionally. It's literally a couple lines of code in the emulator, and removing/hiding them has it run fine. Though, to be fair, it actually makes sense to add "lag" in _some_ scenarios for these n64 games. Like, a certain scene near the end of Majora's Mask or the intro to Banjo-Tooie come to mind. ...what _doesn't_ make sense is why they chose to add it into these _specific_ spots. Unlike the infamous Game Over crashing on NSO, it doesn't seem like this code was there to "fix" anything. (Also, there apparently IS a fix for that crash... but it's not in the North American version. 🤡) 54:59 - Luckily, the Thousand-Year Door remake figured something out for that.

I love the first Paper Mario. First discovered it via Wii Virtual Console. A few screenshots show that it looked different than all other Mario games I had played before. I really loved the mix between 2D sprites and a 3D environment, it was unique for a late N64 game. As a kid, I was so excited for each new chapter. I remember during Christmas 08, entering Shy Guys Toy Box and loving the theme

The allegations against Chuggaaconroy were proven to be blown way out of proportion, and if anyone was the victim in that whole debacle, it was Chugga himself. He didn't harass anyone, he was the one being harassed for clout. If you want to know more, please read his google doc response to the situation. It recontextualized everything and I feel really bad for him. He didn't deserve any of the hate directed towards him.

I finally got to play this thanks to the Switch remake. I definitely think it's better than the first one, overall, but the first game absolutely has strengths that this one doesn't. The remake also solves (or very nearly solves) the chapter 7 backtracking issue. Still a little top much backtracking in a lot of other chapters, but it's not a deal breaker.

So Paper Mario isn't my thing personally, but a trans mutual of mine sent me your stream when you got to _that_ Vivian line in the TTYD remake, and I wound up sticking around for more. As a fellow egg, this decision is extremely brave and courageous of you. The road will only get more difficult from here, but being able to live as yourself without needing to have a mask on will make all of it worth it in the end. I feel for this dude, I was so hyped for this remake aswell and you can tell he has genuine passion for the og house of the dead games. It’s good to see hotd1 available on modern platforms but it could’ve been so much more.

Unironically as someone who’s first paper mario game was Sticker Star. This is my 2nd least favorite Paper Mario Game.

15:13 Hooo boy, you do not want to go there. Tippi is a wonderful character that is genuinely good at guiding you and a good person with a deep story to her. Kersti is unlikable, uninteresting, extremely rude, not useful and worst of all, she always says that she's a lady, she can't fight, Mario always needs to protect her after she started a fight with a group of goombas. We have other female characters in the Paper Mario games like Bombette, Lady bow, Watt, Goombella, Vivian and so on.

If you’re gonna watch a let’s play of this game, i recommend koopa kung fu. He’s hilarious and doesn’t have grooming allegations unlike chugga

A lot of things change over time. Not everything can stay the same or even keep the same energy. A lot of the things you loved as a child are going to end up changing on you and becoming something completely different. No matter how many things change on you in this world, it's good to know some things never will. It's comforting knowing every time Nintendo needs a new game they always start by asking : "Ayoooo, shiggy....."

Admittedly, the lemon zest part was a bit more out there, but aside from that, I only needed to reset because I tenderized it too hard. It’s not that hard to figure out on your own.

31:19 My first game in the series was Thousand Year Door, and I still liked Sticker Star. Sure, it's hollow and isn't as varied as the previous games, and it's the least good game in the series, but that doesn't make it a bad game, and I enjoyed my time with it. I liked the part where you could bring that one sepia-toned Toad back to life by Paperizing a picture of them. The final level in World 4 being a Shy Guy theme park was fun (Mizzter Blizzard Best Boss in Sticker Star, don't @ me). I liked helping out a Wiggler clear out a poisonous swamp so he could chill and be a butterfly. Figuring out that the Tower Power Pokey was weak to Bats because of the stadium-shaped arena was really fun. And this was the first time that Bowser Jr. and Kamek make their appearance in Paper Mario, and they were a treat to enjoy. My outlook on this game used to be a lot more negative, until one day when I was in my high/middle school marching band, and this one kid was playing Sticker Star on his 3DS. I went "You know that game is bad, right?" and he said "What do you mean?", so I explained some of the issues people had with the game. After that, he told me two words that changed my perspective on the game forever: "So what?" As soon as I stopped hoping for Sticker Star to magically turn into SPM or TTYD, and considered it for the stuff that it offered, I felt less negative about it. It might be cryptic, or have boss battles that require Things to beat (for the most part), or be pretty shallow in its presentation, story, characters, combat, and design... but I still enjoyed my time with it. It's a solid 7/10.

Won't lie, I got "spoiled" by searching through your video tab to get to the first part of the retrospective, but when it got to the part about using the "egg" as a vessel, I was like "Ohhhhh, so she's an egg. I get it now." Kind of a funny way to bridge things, I won't lie. Congratulations on finding yourself.

I love super paper mario as much as the next fan, but it's not even in the same ball park as ttyd. Ttyd is a masterpiece with flaws, super paper mario is a flawed game that's also a masterpiece. It's a pretty big distinction. You can't go a single chapter in it without the blatant flaws being obvious, but at the same time, the game is enjoyable enough and has an amazing enough story to outshine those flaws

Why would people want to destroy the artstyle of the game by making it look exactly like the bad games of the series..... Why not talk about a texture pack that makes it look like ttyd... That way it would be a good artstyle change
