2023 Tokyo Marathon + Japan Trip

On Sunday, March 5, 2023, I ran the Tokyo Marathon. It is one of the six Abbott World Marathon Majors (www.worldmarathonmajors.com/). This is my 3rd World Marathon Major. My goal is to run all six. Pikes Peak Hike via Barr Trail

I took this hike on July 13, 2016. It was my first time to climb Pikes Peak. I had the perfect weather and day for this awesome adventure. I started the hike at the Barr Trailhead in Manitou Springs at 4:45am and finished about eight hours later at the summit. I used a GoPro to take the time lapse images and a Sony RX100 IV to shoot the video.
I did this last wed (July 17th) just turned 66, took me 8 hrs, rode back down with daughter and son n law, a workout to say the least.
Just climbed it this past weekend. They gave Ms Roberts a kick ass view huh. Awesome video man but videos and pictures don't do it justice lol met an old man coming down who told us "Your closer than you were 30 minutes ago" whoever that man was he is a legend. Those words got 3 out of shape guys all the way up their first 14er.
Wow, this video was amazing. It will actually help me for my trip there on August 14 to 19, 2024 .

At a low point in my life, being stationed at Fort Carson. I popped 4 tabs of Acid and made this trek in 6.5 hours. In a strange way. I lost and found myself up there all at the same time. Most amazing experience of my life. So beautiful and peaceful❤️

This guys attitude is amazing. Wants that PB but still stops to savour the atmosphere and enjoy the experience. There’s a lesson to be learned here for sure 👍🏼
Great work with the video. Congrats on making it to the top. Well done! I’m not that impressed with the view though. Too much of the view is looking over flat lands/civilization. Reminds me of AZ. Not worth the huge effort, IHMO. I’m very picky though.

Love it! I walked up the Barr Trailhead twice in 1979 and 1980 while I was stationed at Fort Carson. Both times we camped at the A-frame 3 miles from the top. Beautiful views of Colorado Springs!

Loved watching this video! I hiked to Barr Camp three times while l lived in Colorado Springs. Didn't start early enough to make it to the Summit on those hikes. Taking the rail is a fun way to see that gorgeous valley down below. Moved back to TX last year. Miss the scenery & challenging hikes so very much!
I hope you have an opportunity to do it again one day!

Jason, thanks for the detailed video. It was entertaining, and helpful. 35 years ago I lived in Col Springs, and hiked PP at least once a year for six years. IN a month, my brother and I, now well into our 60s, are heading back to Colorado, to hike the Peak, and back down, but in two days, with an overnight at the A-Frame. We've both been walking here in Kansas, 3 to 12 miles a day, for five months, to get back in shape, and ready. We'll be carrying about 16 pounds. Your video refreshed my memory on a number of places along the route. We appreciate it! Mike

Running this on Sunday! So excited. What are the refuelling stations like? Any energy gels available?
Good luck Adam! Most stations have water and an energy drink...not gatorade...there were gels and bananas at a few stations. Let me know how you do.
@@JasonCrader Thanks Jason!! They had tea, water and bananas at almost all stations. There were one station around 15 miles (I think) which had energy gels. It was a good marathon thank you, but I really struggled. It’s my 12 marathon and I found this surprisingly hard compared to the rest, despite it being very flat. Maybe fatigue and the hot weather played a role in why I found it tough.

We didn’t hike down. We caught a ride with a person on the trail.

Do you think this is doable for a new hiker (in shape) if you make it into a two day hike?
Yes. I think if you're in hiking shape, you can definitely do this.
The incline shaves more than just a mile off the hike. And at the beginning you said pikes Peak is one of the hardest 14ers in Colorado. it’s not the hardest it’s just the longest at 26 miles round-trip. The three sisters down south are so much harder, especially if you try to hit all three of them in one day.

Hey, cool video! I went to Barr Camp and back to Manitou today, and will be going to for the summit and back in 2 weeks. How long did the trek down take you guys?
Awesome and good luck! We didn’t hike back down the mountain. We hitched a ride with another hiker we met along the trail. He drove us back to our vehicle.
Will the train bring you back to the parking lot?
When we did this it would but I heard the train is no longer functioning. If someone knows for sure, please comment below.
You don't need to climb the incline to summit the mountain, that just makes the difficult hike harder for no reason. lol

It’s a class 1, 14er meaning that it’s a hiking trail to the top. It looks like it’s the longest hike. Looking forward to it this summer!

This was so beautiful to watch! I also ran this race (my first Worlds Major) and got injured a few weeks before, so it took A LOT of grit to get through, but it was such an awesome experience. Thanks for capturing this!
