After several years of practicing and playing bass, I can tell his lesson is a blessing and has got everything a bass player needs to know about. I wish I could have this lesson in my early years. I recommend to practice it over and over again to catch the essence and the spirit of it. This is just beautiful and graceful and will change my playing for ever.
Wow, that’s amazing to hear. I’m thrilled that you find it so useful 👍
Awesome lesson, I'm 70 yrs. young, just pick up the bass love the sound of the Fretless...really enjoy your teaching keep up the GREAT WORK that you do. Will be practicing this lesson for awhile. THANKS!!!!!
That's wonderful to hear. How exciting. You'll be up and running in no time at all. I hope you find some of the other lessons on my channel helpful too. Enjoy the journey. Best wishes to you👍
That's nice, shame that I don't have a fretless.
Thanks. It all applies to fretted bass too. The slides might not sound quite as cool, but it will all work 100%.
Simply hearing you play interval exercises through the chord changes sounded very musical-my fretless bass has never sounded anything like that, but it does give me some inspiration on improving, haha.
Great to hear that!
Lovely lesson, thank you!!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
One of the best fretless bass lessons I've seen. There's so much in it to learn. Thanks!
Thanks 👍
Always great to see new lessons from you!
🙏
I think I will learn a lot from you
Thank you 👍
Highly recommended that you keep in with Keith. I’ve known of him for decades as a gigging musician. Fellow musicians who had worked with him told me he was an amazing bassist. I’d never seen him until these videos. Now I see not only a brilliant bass player but a fantastic teacher too. 👌🌟😎
@@ArtbyJoeH That is so very kind of you. High praise indeed. Thanks.
Nice mate
👍👍👍👍👍
This is a great lesson. One of the great take aways for me was starting with a chord tone and not leading with the root. You always organize your material great. Thanks for the lesson, it was what I needed.
Tried to download using my email address, the link wouldn't recognise my email😢
If you follow the link and put in a correct email address it should work perfectly. Ive not experienced this problem. Give it another go and if it doesn’t work send me a DM please.
Extremely helpful moving me towards creating fresh bass lines of my own, thanks very much,it makes me think so differently!!
Thanks 🙏
As a long-time guitarist who has shifted to bass, these lessons are phenomenal. They provide so much practical knowledge, while simultaneously giving you the fundamentals of music theory so that you can expand beyond the individual lessons. This gives you so much more room to play and fill in the sound as the bassist in a trio, rather than just playing root notes! It is also helping my guitar improvisation, as I am looking at the neck more in terms of notes than shapes - these are lessons you can apply to both guitar and bass! Recommend to anyone wanting to really learn their instrument rather than just figure out how to play a particular song
Wow, thanks for your very generous comments. I'm thrilled you are enjoying my lessons. I obviously believe 100% in what I teach, but to have others share a belief and really 'see' what it's all about is fabulous.
Great lesson! This is so important for me playing bass in my country band. Sometimes there's just a few notes in the bass line, but how long you hold them makes all the difference in the world. I think some bass players who look down on country music miss that point.
I agree totally. Note length is so important to good bass playing. Thanks for your kind comments 👍
Hey Keith! Great lesson mate. I just sent you an email (replying to your welcome email). Can you take a look at that, or give me a better email to contact you at? Thanks!
Thanks
Great lesson Keith. I’ll show this to my bunch
👍
amazing lesson, I'm really getting into palm muting and related techniques, thnks for the lesson!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I love it, it’s a great technique.
I love this, so many sonic textures, thank you for this lesson, Keith!!
Thank you 🙏
I love the flexibility and tonal variations you can get with this approach. In addition I really like the subtleness of left hand muting ala Rocco Prestia.
Yes! It’s great 👍
great lesson as always. I find playing this way feels the most natural and sounds the warmest. and as a late beginner I think i should just commit to it all the time
Tone is a very personal thing. I like the variety that every technique brings, but if particularly like this technique, go for it!
Great ways to add spice to your basslines, and accessible to most levels of players- thank you!
Thanks for your feedback. I'm really pleased you enjoyed the lesson.
Great lesson as usual. This is not something I have heard about before.
It’s not widely recognised as the Pinch, but many players use it (or similar techniques) and you definitely get a great range of sounds using it👍
Thank you!!!
👍
Wow, just bought a bass, and this is just what I need, thank you. ♥️🎸.
Enjoy👍
Excellent, I'll give it a try, thanks!
Glad you like it👍
You’re posting some really good stuff, man!
Thanks so much. I’m really pleased you like it👍
Thank you Keith! Learned a lot!
👍
This is brilliant and just what I need. I also need a bass that has that tone. What is that bass?
Thanks👍The bass is nothing fancy, in fact it's a bit of a mongrel. It's a Fender P body (reissue) and an ESP Jazz neck (modelled on a 60's Jazz) with an ebony fingerboard. The pickups are EMG (PJ configuration), it has an original Badass bridge and the tuners are Schaller. I've had it since the early 1990's, but it was very cheap. Any standard Fender with the same PJ set would probably wipe the floor with it, but I like it! I have an identical Jazz bass too (different colour).
Keith you’re a legend, your lessons are so inspiring. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
😊

Hi Keith, I actually preferred sample 1. It sounded smoother and more melodic to me.
👍
👍👍
👍
Was your A string a bit out of tune?
Ooh that’s a bit harsh David 😜 I always check my tuning before filming, but there’s always a chance. I didn’t notice it myself. Was there a particular section you thought was out?
@@academyofbass sorry. Near the beginning. No offence 😂 Probably my hopeless ears
@@davidgerrard8661 I’ll, check. Can’t do much about it now though. No offence taken BTW👍
@@academyofbass the lesson works fine mate 👍
Perfect!
🙏
Great-great lesson! Very logical and helpful. Thank you very much!
Thank you👍
Actually teaching some fundamentals as opposed to a 'how to...' play this style/bass line/song; much better, proper music :) Wonder why you haven't as many subscribers as Scott? Perhaps most people want a recipe, a magic formula, instead of applying themselves to a craft. Eeh, the world today... ;-)
Thank you so much, that’s very nice of you to say. I’m a relative newcomer to the online world. Hopefully in time, more of those players that want to develop their playing will discover and enjoy my lessons🤞
Wonderful lesson. Just what I needed, to find new ways of playing solo to my rhythm machine and backing tracks. Thanks a lot!
Thank you! I’m really pleased you found it helpful👍
thanks for the lesson ! Hey man, what a good PB sound...... what's your settings please ? (bass, PU's, strings, pre, Amp, FX.....) ? cheers from Cahors-France
Thank you 🙏. The P Bass is very standard. Alder body, maple neck, EMG pickups. I use D’Addario XL170 strings. The strings are far from new and the tone is only ⅓ on. What you are hearing is 100% flat, with no EQ, or compression. It’s all just me and the bass.
@@academyofbass thanks a lot... and for you (very very) quick answer !! very useful
Great lesson once again Keith. Really accessible information for all levels.
Thank you👍
Brilliant as always. Lost me a bit at the end when you said notes resolving to other notes . My fault not yours. Ill have to do more research/homework
Resolve is just a technical term. Very roughly, it’s when a note that isn’t considered to be part of a chord is moved to a note that is part of a chord. Notes within a chord always sound nice, so taking a note that doesn’t belong and then moving to a note that does, usually sounds very nice. Hope this helps 👍
Yes it does. Thanks for that
Do you have any talent I can download?
I'm still working on developing talent, but if I do strike it lucky and find myself in possession of any, you are most welcome to it 😜
Yet another lesson that gives me a lot to think about and practice. The resources supplied are among the best I have seen before from a free lesson
Thank Terry👍
Excellent lesson Keith! Always get something useful from all of your lessons. Thanks for the PDF especially the Notation.
🙏
