Hello Kevin, I have a problem of trying to find a way to grab an existing 3d model and entering into the interior because some sketchup files provide access to outside of the house, but not much of view from inside out (hard angle controls), allowing me to use as a reference for photobashing etc. Do you perhaps have a recommendation for 3d newbie (mac user). Also, did you make the kit? How long does it take?
Hey! Thanks for the questions - These 3d models are for Blender, so I am not sure they would work with SketchUp. They were also designed for use as exterior models (no interiors were build for these) so if you wanted interiors, they would need to be custom made. I do provide some wall pieces / wall panels in the kitbash set so you could theoretically make it yourself! For a new 3d user on mac, I would definitely recommend Blender! It is free, there are a ton of tutorials here on CZcams to learn all the steps and it is an amazing program. I would try out different tutorials, but Blender Guru has great introductory tutorials and Ian Hubert has great tips and tricks for when you picked up the basics. And yes! I did make the kit. It took a while but it was really fun for me to make :) Certain elements were made in 3D coat as well (a program good for sculpting). If you are just starting out, start out with Blender though! They have good sculpting tools in the program as well.
Next level my dude!
Phillip! Thanks dude!!
What an amazing piece, sir! I absolutely love it. The cloud brush looks cool. Would you mind sharing where you found it?
Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!! Ahh so I got some of these cloud brushes a while ago from Shaddy Safadi - I am not sure has still has them available for download. I think there are free brushes you can probably download! John Park sometimes has brushes with his Gumroad Patreon tutorials, for example 'S2 Assassin tutorial' seems to come with brushes
Thank you for the tips. Subscribed
For sure! Glad you like it!!
Love this tut. Thank u Kevin! ❤
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it!!
is this the same course Environment Concept Art - Japanese Stilt City on ur Artstation? or just a short version of it bro?
Hey man! This is not exactly the same but it goes over some similar stuff - the Stilt City tutorial is much more in depth and covers also the Blender side of things; such as how I model, texture, navigate in Blender, render, etc.
@@kevinjickart thank you
stunning , subscribed !
Thanks!! Glad you like it!!
Japan is so clean that birds have learnt to clean up their poop ^^ Really cool tut. Using canera clip is because your mist doesnt have enough data in 8 bit? Maybe having one in exr in another 32bit psd could be faster to copy masks, that can be soft too unlike the clip?
Hahaha, yea thats totally it xD And yea, thats why I havent been using mist pass for masks, I felt like the edges would not be as perfect as I liked - but that is a cool idea with the mist pass you laid out here! I think there is definitely room for the mist pass to be used for masks as well, that is super cool
@@kevinjickart One good thing with the mist for mask, is that you can paint with a soft brush in overlay mode before you contrast the Mist, in order to "bend" it, so it's not a perfect flat plane in front of the camera, but you can push one element so it remains in the mask ect.. Just in Cycles it will display the volumetrics too, so you can do a render with 1 sample where you deactivated the volumes, and save that as exr 32bits. In the world settings you can set the far & near planes of the mist, and the interpolation, to have more data far or near ect.. This way it should be possible to have super clean flexible Z masks, without the banding / dither you have in 8bit.
This is awesome - next level stuff man! I gotta try it out, thanks a ton for the tips with this. Hearing your method really opens up the possibilities with just the mist layer and using it for masks and blending, that's awesome
That rendering tip from camera clip is so good and clever!
Thanks! Im glad you like it! It has helped me a ton / saved me a ton of time
thanks a lot for the tutorial sir <3
:) Glad you liked it!!
really cool
Thank you!
amazing! I love it.
Thanks!! 🙏
what if I can't sketch at all? whats another way I could go about thumbnailing my ideas?
Hey! I would say even small sketches, such as pen and paper is totally fine even if you are new at it! It can be simple shapes, thats totally okay! If for example you know a bit of 3d, you can block out a space in 3D using boxes and cylinders and then start from there. Another thing you can try is finding a reference, such as a street on google maps or a cool reference photo and then take a screenshot and draw ontop of it. you can use it as a base and change things up a bit based on your story. The #1 thing is practice!
Hello! I was wondering if the course is updated since it was done with a blender from 2 years ago, can it still be taken? What version of blender was it made with? thank you!
Hey! Thanks for the question! Blender is still in my opinion 99% the same as from 2 years ago, just more powerful, so still relevant if you are interested in it! The biggest differences are now in blender 4.0+ are the Principle BSDF node is slightly different. It still has the same functionalities but it will look different. The rest is pretty much the same! If you have any questions just let me know
Hi Kevin, I am interested in purchasing your course, question is this process of modeling good only for concept or it is good and optimized to make a real game environment?
Hey! That is awesome to hear you are interested in the course! Unfortunately this modeling style is only for concept - this would not work for a real game environment as this is focused on making the scene only in Blender
Basically i am a mechanical engineer , and Doing the gear design & other mechanical part through auto cad . but today onwards when i watch ur information in this vedio , i want to change my passion through this .

Really neat🎉. My computer would have blown up after the 10th house or so 😂
Thanks, glad you like it! And haha, yea my computer was definitely feeling it after a while haha
Hello, when I exported these assets from Blender to a file in gltf2.0 format and then imported them into UE, the normal display effect was very abnormal. When I exported it to FBX and imported it into Maya to check it, I found that the normal of the original model was very abnormal. Almost half of the normal of the model in a building is reversed. I hope you can fix it. Although it appears normal in Blender, but it appears abnormal in UE or Maya.Secondly, there is a shader, as the author directly uses color maps as normals, metals, and rough maps, while the compression settings for UE maps are specified, resulting in abnormal texture effects
Hey! Thanks for reaching out with this problem regarding the Normals and exporting - Similar to the disclaimer that is on the asset store pages - these assets were designed for use in Blender. This means that in Blender they will work well; however, if they are exported to other 3D Programs there will be issues with them (such as the normals you pointed out) I'm sorry you are having this issue, but please refer back to the disclaimer on the store page for more information!
@@kevinjickart There is indeed this statement, I saw it at the time, but I didn't pay much attention to it , I understand. Thank you. Through inspection, I feel that in UE, it is mainly due to shaders and textures. In blender, color maps are directly modified to be used as Normal mapping, metal maps, and rough maps. The compression settings of UE maps are specified, so the texture effect is abnormal.
@@yantingye1677 Ahh I see. Honestly that sounds really cool that you tried taking these assets into UE. UE5 is such an amazing program; unfortunately my modeling and texturing skills are not ready to make assets for Unreal Engine haha. I hope one day to be able to optimize my assets so they can be brought into UE! Sorry you ran into this problem man.
@@kevinjickart that is fine, blender and UE are very powerful engine,I love them 😁
@@yantingye1677 Would baking out PBR textures from Blender solve this issue? There are some very reasonable PBR export plugins available for Blender.
I really want to buy it but i am scared my computer cant load this amount of assests and i am afaird i don know how to use it, were u using a hdri in the video by the way. can u link a video how to use this assests pls
looks seriously cool, well done. don't waste your marketing here by NOT TALKING. It's great to have graphics and some techno beat, but explain to your audience why they should use it
Hi Craig - thanks a ton for the kind words and feedback!! That is a great idea to have had voice overlay with talking more about the 'why' to use it - I will be keeping this in mind for future asset packs or videos :)
This looks sooo sick!
Thanks a ton Walter!! :)
Daamn, man!
🙌Hey man! It was so fun putting this together, excited to finally release it!
@@kevinjickart I love it man, gonna buy it
@@humble-aleksandrpronin3160 🙌would love to know what you think man!!
Hello, one question before i buy the course, did you show how you modelled everything or its just downloadable assets that where placed in the video. Hope to hear from you. Nice work
Hey! Thanks for the question! Yea I model everything here (buildings, props, assets, environment) using Blender and I show off the process for it in the tutorial :) Thanks for the interest in this!
Damn! You are insane! I really want to live in this village. So beautiful!
Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you like it!!
Let me ask it it possible to do this course without photoshop
Hey, thanks for the question! The majority of the course focuses on Blender, probably about 80% of it, so if you are interested in Blender, I bet it can be helpful to you! I like to use photoshop to paint over my renders to give them that last level of polish :)
Dang !! Wish this was free.
Looks great, Kevin! Congrats and thank you for giving us the opportunity to learn from you.
That is super nice of you to say! Thanks for the kind words!
I’d love to create something like this. But it looks so scary and tricky but sir your work is absolutely beautiful
Thanks for the kind words! For this stuff, it is all about the process and building upon the basics bit by bit :) If you like concept art, check out FZDSchool here on youtube, really great concept art videos that cover some all aspects of concept art
I’d really love to be a concept artist someday
That is awesome to hear! There are lots of great free resources here on youtube you can check out since you are interested. I highly reccomend FZDschool's videos, they cover all aspects of concept art!

Oh awesome xD
I just bought your course... Where Can I get Reference images and exercise files?
Hi Yash! Thanks for your interest in the course! Unfortunately since the course is focused on showing my workflow process for Environment Concept Art creation, reference images and exercise files are not included. If you are trying to follow along, I encourage you to get PureRef and look on places like google and pinterest to get your reference images from! Tons of awesome reference out there.
@@kevinjickart Okay ... Is it possible to share the pureref image collection file? Please That will help a lot.
@@eduardohernandez6075 there is no blender files provided...which is not the objective of the course. The guide is good he explains the workflow very well.. its just that the reference gathered would help a lot and you wont have to go through all those hassle if it was provided.
I'm excited bruv!
Thanks Joe!
Hi Kevin I'm learning environment concept arts what would be your suggestion to grow myself...🙌
Hey! Glad to hear, enviro concept art is so fun! Depending on how you approach it, there are a few ways. CZcams channels like Feng Zhu Design, Tyler Edlin, Trent Kaniuga are all great! They have gumroads as well. You can check out Foundation Patreon gumroad, they are awesome for fundamentals and cheap. Then the overall best way is to take online art classes at schools like Brainstorm, CGMA etc 👍
@@kevinjickart thanks Kevin got some ideas and where to look for learning 😃 ..🙌
Im so exited for more episodes
🙌Thanks Bardai!
My Body is Ready!
Haha thanks Phillip!
Hi Kevin, this looks very interesting. The scene you made in this is spectacular. I'm considering buying the course, I'm just slightly concerned about the sketching part. I've been using blender for quite a while but I've never been great at painting or drawing. I can do compositing in PS, but when it comes to drawing/sketching something from scratch I struggle. Would this course still be good for me or should I get something like sketching basics beforehand?
Hey Joss, thanks! Really glad you like it! So I would say that learning how to draw / design is really important for concept art! I can definitely reccomend looking at some of the free drawing content here on youtube to get started first! There are also other great gumroads / affordable tutorials that can help with this stuff! For youtube - Feng Zhu Design, Trent Kanigua, Tyler Edlin, Proko and many more. For Gumroad: Foundation Patreon Grumroad has amazing fundamentals of design and drawing!
@@kevinjickart Wow...that's actually pretty useful! Thank you so much!
@@kevinjickart Thanks Kevin!
is the full tutorial 3 and a half hours long? or just the commented part of it?
All the segments (sketching, 3d kitbash build, 3d blockout, paintovers, etc) total to 3 and a half overs. I have commentary over all of it since I find commentary on this stuff really helpful 👍
@@kevinjickart thanks for the answer, I think I'll buy it next month since I gave a lot of money already on the spring sale, but there aren't many tutorials that use Japanese style architecture at this quality level. One last question, do you show some of the modeling process as well?
@@AutumnRed No worries, and yea! A portion of the tutorial goes over the whole modeling process in blender and how I assemble the scene in blender 👍
@@kevinjickart cool, thanks a lot, I will definitely buy it next month, this tutorial could definitely help me a lot with my project, have a nice day 🙂
