If you print this page out on A4 paper, it should be the right size
This step by step video shows the making of a trio of kiridashi style knives I made last year. I'd hoped they would be quick and easy, but getting the full bevel flat took a long time. The chisel style bevel on these knives makes them pretty incredibly sharp.
All of the tools used are pretty affordable and easy to use, so I feel like most people could follow along without investing too much money. Check my other videos to see how to make knives with only the most basic of tools though.
Most of the processes used I learned about on CZcams, and most of the materials used were bought from eBay. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll get back to you
Materials used:
Steel: O1 tool steel £20.50

8mm brass tube filled with smaller brass and stainless steel rods, filled with epoxy for the pins
Wood: Zebrano (the dark and light striped wood) and mediteranean olive (the more patterned wood)
Liberon Tung Oil: ~£11

What material is this?
I want this knife sir ... How can I get it
My best test for sharpness is guitar player magazine paper, its very thin, if your knife ain't tsharp it won't cut, anyway sweet knife man, good vid too !
7 years later, you have maximum patience. I forge to profile, not stock removal, and I'm still in awe.
Great work!
beautiful knive
Very nice
Beautiful knife!!
How long does one like this take you
About to make my third ever knife and it is for my fathers 80th birthday who enjoys cooking. I have all the tools you have and am so grateful for this video. Thank you for the inspiration.
We do exactly the same, good luck you are did beautiful knives 😉👍
My advice is don't change if it's not broken 😊
Where do you get the steel for your knifes
Top 👍🏻
$...?
Excellent Job ! You put some work into that! What metal did you use?
Great video. I was wondering the bevel part. Did you make the cutting edge first and then the bevel?
What type of metal did you use ?
Hi,what an Owsome video love the simple diy with little much effort just keep on with what you doing am going to use every guide thankz alote.

👍👍👍
Well done for the hacksaw work alone 😳👍😘🏴
Wow.
Beautiful knives !
I really appreciate the work you do and the information you are sharing. This is my only real criticism - when I see people using a hacksaw and only cutting in the middle of the saw blade instead of using the entire length of the blade - something my metal-work teacher in Sheffield taught me when I was about 12 years old. I don't mean to be an arse, it's just that even today, years later, I see people doing this all the time.
Bravo, bravo, bravo, perfecct awesom work, abs. respectful from old BG.
What is this steel is? 440C?

What will happen if I don't heat it up like you do in the your homemade oven?
it's a process called heat treating. it makes the steel much harder. If you don't do it, the steel will remain softer which means 1: it won't be able to get a very sharp edge 2: it will lose that edge quickly with use and 3: will dent and bend easier when knocked or dinged. it's an essential process for making a knife. There are usually places that will do it for you however if you can't/don't want to do it yourself. cheers
You'll probably wont answer anyway, but the ebay link doesnt work anymore. How thick is the stock you used? Im using 2,8 and 3,5mm stock and having a real hard time getting the knife thin enough, especially if I just make a bevel like you and dont make a full flat grind
hi, yes you're right, I would recommend using 2mm for knives with small bevels. I used 3mm on some smaller knives with smaller bevels, and i can get the bevel ok, but they're not great knives on account of being more choppy than cutty if that makes sense. 2mm is good for small knives in my opinion. In my video called "making steak knives", that is 2mm steel, and the "hunting knives" video is 3mm, but with a pretty full bevel. hope that helps
The true purpose of arm hair: testing sharpness.
You want to tell me that you have a bench drill and a blowtorch but NO angle grinder to gut out you parts?
What size of stock are you using? Really like your content!
I'm a original black smith in India but love ur great job
"Making a hunting knife using hobbyist tools", uses non hobbyist power tools from 0:10seconds to the video. got my dislike.
Damn! Beautiful!
Beautiful!!
Oh he has lovely hands.
💚
hello, you sell your kiridashi ??
Very nice!
they´re just awesome
I like that hardening furnace, did you built it our of fire bricks? Any details on the construction?
Where do you get your steel from?
Is there a specific reason in terms of quality for not using power tools to cut? Not sure if you’re just trying to stay a little more old school or if it’s that you’re trying to avoid putting undue heat into the parts from a reciprocating saw or grinding wheel. Thanks!
why u skipped normalisation?
