In my opinion you didn't start a whole new career.......you just took your experience that you gained in the airline industry and made a next logical career advancement. You are one that can see the far horizon and know what is best vs. staying in the publicly traded large corporate meat grinder. Good for you and best of luck going forward. Pretty awesome that an American company can do this. Ironically on this you tube page there’s a video about a Kalitta 747 that had a triple engine failure on takeoff.

Just try to keep those engines from falling off again.

Rogue one request clearance

It doesn’t work out to two weeks on, two weeks off. It’s more like four weeks on, two weeks off. If you are off the first two weeks of the month, then working the second two weeks, then your schedule has you working the first two weeks the next month, you won’t get home for a month.

I worked for Kalitta. Had young CPT run us off the runway, mismanaged the thrust levers and didn’t have her hand on the tiller. When we stopped, she started crying. Rather than taxi off and re enter the runway at the start , she simply shoved the thrust levers up and continued the takeoff roll. At the interim stop, she called the chief pilot who brushed the whole incident aside, and added; make sure the FO doesn’t fly the last leg. I should’ve said; if the FO was flying, this wouldn’t have happened. Director of ops and chief pilot are both hacks.

When his son, Scott, died in a Funny Car crash caused by a blower explosion that resulted in a huge fire that burned his parachute and he went into the sand trap and retention net at 300 mph, I was so crushed for his dad. Was so sad. Scott was a big name in NHRA drag racing. Was a major loss.

Oscoda is where I Got my start as a AMT. I was fresh out of A&P school 19 years old. I taxied my first A/C a 747 in Miami when I was 20. I never forget the experiences got in my short time with the company. Back the it was AIA. I now am at Southwest Airlines 22 years time. I went from working on the biggest planes to the smallest planes. I sure do miss wide bodies.

I flew there for several years and loved it. My liver took a beating, lol. I lived off 5 towns pound cake and Scotch. It was like being a rock star.

I love that all airlines are begging people to come work for them. Airlines deserve the trouble they helped create in this industry.

They do do some nice flying but it is work.😊

My goal is to move back up to the Oscoda/Tawas area in the near future and work for Kalitta again. Enjoyed working there in 1994/95 when it was American International Airways.
