When I feel up to it, I research the public domain WWII videos in the National Archives, fix the errors, make HD versions, and upload them to CZcams and Internet Archive (where they are freely downloadable). I also digitize film from my own collection (those items do not reference the National Archives in their descriptions.) It gives me something to do while I am laying here. :) My channel doesn't have ads (is not monetized).
If you cite my items or use my research, please credit my CZcams channel or my archive at Archive.org: "WWII Public Domain."

Dad was in this unit for the last 4 or 5 months of the war in 1953, so isn't in this video, but there isn't much about this unit out there to begin with. He did tell me he would get shot at by snipers while fixing lines though, and said he was on patrols often. Not sure where that all happened. Thanks for the video.

The Grandpa's were pissed man!
Thank you for posting. My late Uncle, Ensign John Matthew Ring, was a F6F Hellcat fighter pilot as part of VF-44 aboard the Langley. According to his military record, he was killed by Japanese anti-aircraft fire at about 5:25 PM on October 25, 1944 at the Battle of Cape Engano, which was the final phase of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. He was only 20 years old. I have been researching his life to put together something I can give to my children to make sure that his sacrifice is never forgotten. I wish I knew if he is one of the pilots in the film. Thanks again.
My dad was in 11th armored cav , he was a medic 67-68
It’s interesting to see footage of Japanese soldiers surrendering that never happened much until the war officially ended especially in big platoon/ battalion sizes also this is late war too
Just Like the Movie "Ice Station Zebra"
❤
is there a HD version of this?

Was the 6/71 a TO&E or TDA unit? And was it General or Direct support?

[ Brief history of this movie ] 1. Purpose of film production Planning and production of this film began in August 1945 with the purpose of conveying the inhumanity of the atomic bomb to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva. 2.The people who made this movie Planning for this movie began under the leadership of Nihon Eigasha's staff. Nihon Eigasha(日本映画社) is a Japanese company that produced newsreels and other propaganda films for the Japanese military and government during the war. Their freedom of the press was taken away by the Japanese government during the war and by the Americans who occupied Japan after the war. Immediately after the war, there was a gap of several months without interference from either side, and the staff at Nihon Eigasha, who were relatively free, spontaneously began producing this film. 3. Ask scientists for help To make this film a scientific and neutral record, Nippon Eigasha's staff enlisted the help of Dr. Yoshio Nishina and ultimately received significant support from Japanese scientists, including RIKEN. 4. Division of roles in production The field survey and analysis of the results were conducted by leading Japanese academics, including RIKEN and the Science Council of Japan. Staff from Nihon Eigasha were in charge of filming, editing, and creating the narration manuscript. The narration was read by a Japanese man (Toshiro Shimauchi, An employee of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs) who was fluent in English and stood next to a microphone. 5. Interference from victorious countries The General Headquarters of the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces entered the production site midway through and monitored the work of the Japanese staff. Eventually, the film was completed in 1946, with the U.S. Strategic Bombing Survey usurping the credit for the Japanese staff. 6. Film censorship and film confiscation The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission at the time censored the film and determined that the section recording the explosion altitude investigation (38:35 , 1:54:25) leaked state secrets. Therefore, they prohibited public viewing and transported all the films from Japan to the United States, where they were strictly stored in a shelf that was prohibited for viewing. Therefore, it was not possible to submit it to the International Committee of the Red Cross, which was the original purpose. The Japanese staff wept in their hearts. 7. Return of movie film In 1967, the U.S. government returned the film to the Japanese Ministry of Education. The Japanese Ministry of Education was reluctant to release the film because it did not want to displease the United States government. However, in response to requests from within Japan, the Japanese Ministry of Education reluctantly made the film available for viewing within Japan.
Any possibility of identifying the specific squadron from the 4th Cavalry Group here?
My Mother's brother was aboard this ship when it sank on 1/3/1944. He was Albert Appel Jr., Petty Officer Third Class. They never recovered his remains and he is memorialized at Tablets of the Missing at East Coast Memorial, New York City. He was an incredible artist and I get to see some of his artwork from 1938 on a daily basis. RIP Uncle Al.
They would have been shot out of the sky if they had been leaving trails like this back then. I heard they have been paying people to insert chemtrails into all the old movies digitally to psych us into thinking there have always been chemtrails in the skies. We all know it is BS we did not start seeing this regularly until 2008ish

My father was 3rd Infantry Division, a fantastic unit itself. Dad LOVED the 82nd Airborne. He told me, “when the 82nd was on your flank, you never worried that the Germans would break through their sector!” The units that fought early in the war, had a special bond!

Pa-26 USS SAMUEL CHASE was my grandfather's ship.
My parents came from this era, growing up there was a real sense of pride in America. 🇺🇸
I have a map from that landing (I believe), marked "SECRET" and with hand drawn markings for two adjacent landing areas on the southeast beach, "Beach Blue I" and "Beach Blue II." Can't even recall where I got it, but am unable to find any reference to the map online. Any suggestions where I might search?
The highest ranking american killed in WWII. RIP Simon Buckner Jr.
Gotta say the Americans and Bambergers have always been unique in relationships. From inspiring John Augustus Roebling the architect of the Brooklyn Bridge who first saw a suspension bridge in Bamberg in his youth in Bamberg The first US military governor of Bamberg Nathan Preston, is buried in the Lange Strasse cemetery. He became a native Bamberger and ran a toy store [Preston's toy store] in the US residential section up until his death in the mid-1980s.He was a key figure in the rapid rebuilding of lower Franconia and assisted my German grandfather in establishing one of the biggest sawmills in Franconia post-war. His grave has the following epithet under the crossed American and German flags. Nathan Preston Ein Freund der Bamberger.Long may that USBamberg friendship last.
Thank you so very much please keep in touch with me!

My Father-in-Law was a radioman on the Saratoga that day. The plane crash penetrated into the radio compartment in the bow of the ship and killed everyone in that compartment. He was serving on the bridge that day. That was the only reason he survived. He claimed February 22nd as his 2nd Birthday.
My great uncle served on the Carroll. Donald Fitzgerald. Does anyone have any more info on this ship or its crew? I would love to learn more on it.
