You really ought to examine the efficiency of this "back cut". It is nonsense. When it comes to a fight you need to remove your flashy, flippy stuff. The biggest issue with the Voyager series, is the scales tear the crap out of your pants. I prefer the scales of the Talwar and Black Talon, but the blade of the Vaquero is unmatched. After market scales would sell like crazy.

fun to play with bad heat treat big turn off when blade keeps bending i don't like knives with bent blades it is just something that turns me off. to each his own.

I'm pleased with the 4034 result considering it wasn't a factory edge (just ordered a 4034 Natchez Bowie!) The 1055, not bad either for a machete BUT, I'm super impressed with the SK-5! I remember that tip snapping but to see it go full on steel on steel with not so much as a glint, has made me love that knife all over again lol!!! GREAT review....

I think cold steel XL folding combat knives are great. In addition to the length of the blade, it also feels good when held at the end of the handle.

I have both and prefer the Vaquero XL as well. I just wish for a vaquero model with a G-10 handle to come out.

Talwar is too big to carry. The Vaquero will be there when you need it. Vaquero opens faster, and Better blade shape on Vaquero also.

if weight and ease of carry is a big concern pick the Talwar! Its so thin and light its like its not even there! I still pick the vaquero all day long though XD my all-time fav knife

I love my vaquero. I do wish theyd make one with that ledge opener so you can "wave" it out if your pocket. The aftermarket thumbhole replacers are alright, of course, i just like that ledge.

Sent mine to a custom maker for a full convex, ground swedge for batoning, and reduced top guard, then had a Grizzly Customs sheath made for it. Now its a fantastic blade! Ironically, I'm in AK and this is my to bowie knife for general purpose use. This paired with the TRC magnacut Polehiem makes it a fantastic combo for everything I can think of. In regard to mountain lion defense, I was also in that situation this part March when my buddy and I were stalked during a nighttime coyote hunt in MT. He came into the distressed rabbit call and got within 27 yards. Thought I was going to have to shoot it when it didnt respond to 2 warning shots. Thankfully he decided we were worth the trouble and slid away. I dont know if I would want to fight a big kitty with a knife, but having a knife in that situation would have been better than nothing.

The cold steel sheaths are a problem. There's nothing worse than spending 45 minutes putting on a fresh edge only to be dulled in a split second just from inserting and drawing it from the sheath
