Aiyima Battles Fosi for the Class D Amp Throne: Aiyima A70 vs Fosi v3 Mono
Aiyima, fresh off of seeing the FOSI v3 Mono take the throne of cheap Class D amps from the A07 Max, is back to battle for power. Sending the Scientific Audiophile the A70, in hopes that FOSI's rule will be a short reign!

Thanks and welcome aboard
I’ve only got a PhD in engineering, so I bow to your expertise… but what you’re claiming doesn’t appear to make any technical sense whatsoever.

A newer review by GadgetryTech also confirms sibilance issue at default Filter 3. I just got this DAC/Amp and agree that Filter 3 is the sharpest ssssstttttt sounding filter.

Truthear Nova
@@scientificaudiophile which gives a lot amount of bass
You got me. I'm such a sucker.
I never bought cables for the sound. I bought cables only for aestethic, comfort and practicality (modular). Eartips have bigger impact for sound
Love it
this is on-point
What about spin clean .
Good product, just use good solution.
How about use some reasonable measurement devices like an oscilloscope and a signal gen. Multimeter RMS is unreliable. Also measue the RMS of your input signal. Further Uncorrelatd white noise can mathematically only be 66% of the power of a sine by definition. RMS of sine is 1/sqrt(2) amplitude in volt, RMS of white noise is sqrt(3)/3 in volts. P = U^2/R so proportional to volt squared 0.5 vs 1/3.
Excellent idea.
If you’ve ever used a new microfiber to clean car windows, then you’ll know just how much fiber dust can be deposited all over the glass. Can’t even imagine how terrible that would make a record sound. I would test your microfibers on glass before using them on a record.
A number of reviewers ("No Theme Reviews" in particular) have reviewed these with similarly petty, arrogant, over-the-top harangues, which resulted in my rejecting them, not Verum, particularly when they disparaged its sound and design, whose excellence your review, amongst many others, attests to. But as far as elements of quality control and Igor’s forthrightness are concerned, the haranguers turned out to be quite accurate in my experience. I wish I'd seen sober reviews of those factors, as they might have kept me from buying the Verums, which, for me anyway, was a mistake. I received my Verum 1 Mk2’s a few weeks ago, and I do think they’re terrific. But they came with two issues: 1, exactly as @Starch1b2c3d4a relates, the jacks in both earpieces cut out if the cables are stressed only slightly; and 2, there is a bad clear-coat job on one of the earpiece surrounds. Igor was responsive, albeit intermittently, and perfectly polite; but he was also evasive, disingenuous, made lame excuses, and tried to appear as if he didn’t know about things he would have to know about - like this jack issue. In short, he gave me the same runaround that these reviewers and others have gotten from him. To wit: In the case of issue #1, he asked me to test alternate cables, and went on about the high quality of the jacks, as if he'd never heard of this; back and forth with emails, wasting both of our time. Finally I sent him incontrovertible videos of the issue, which I will send to you if you like. Then he said OK, this was happening because the cable he included with my phones has straight male jacks on the headphone end, not the right angle ones he usually provides - but ran out of - “believe it or not”, as he put it. He said he would send me a proper cable “soon” - when he was able to get more right angle jacks. I trust that the myriad questions this begs are obvious, so I won’t go into them, except to say that, even if the angled connectors are effective as a work-around, how is it that the jacks in these phones can’t handle straight connectors? Not to mention that it’s virtually impossible to find a cable on the market with angled jacks on the headphone end, balanced or unbalanced. As to the second issue, he said sorry (as in, ‘them’s the breaks’), but that sometimes there’s no power, and he has to work by flashlight. (I offered to buy him a generator 🙄.) I offered to replace the surround myself if he sent me a new one. No response. So the deal is, you might well be expected to accept seconds quality, therefore reduced resale value, and/or you may have to mod them yourself, and make your own cables, or else pay a fortune for custom ones, after having paid 350 bucks for a headphone. Worth it at the price? Well, maybe. But if you think a warranty and a reasonable level of service are not optional, and you try to get them from Igor, you will wind up as a supplicant, humiliatingly subject to the whims and problems and evasions and runarounds of some guy who makes headphones, operating not only outside of acceptable norms but, for all intents and purposes, legal liability. Well, that’s where I get off. After some 17 emails back and forth on these issues, I’m done with the abuse. It’s unfortunate, because I think Igor is great if not brilliant at the core of what he does, and plenty impressive in the way he’s battling through all problems, business and personal, to make it happen - in a freaking war zone. I wanted to support him, and was looking forward to the Verum 2. But my self-respect is not available into the bargain.
most companies don't want to list the ingredients on a simple record cleaner solution ,as many would just make their own for cheap. But in the USA , we have the right to know the ingredients & the Federal gvmt has made companies list the ingredients in federal database , health hazards (if any) etc..on any chemical based items sold on the market .as if the stuff is being shipped/transported & has been damaged /leaking anyone can quickly find out what they are dealing with .
If you're expecting to get more than about 40 watts RMS at 8 ohms out of anything you can hold in the palm of your hand, then I've got a few bridges you may be interested in. That said, I bought one one of these to drive an ancient set of Technics SB100's (4 ohm), and it does **OK(ish)**. The sound is clean enough; although, I'd say not any "richer" than any other class-D amplifier I've ever heard. In its defense, it wasn't meant to be a permanent solution anyway; rather, something to hold me over until I get around to replacing my 30 year old Denon; and then, it will probably end up in that big plastic tub full of other electronics junk I bought, for whatever reason, and got exactly what I was expecting. It ain't bad; it just ain't class-A.
Bish Melodia Regina, those about to die salute you!
Long live physical media 💿
Talk about a completely unscientific report. He goes by print, no actual experience or testing. What's more, it was confirmed by whom at Yamaha; some minimum wage call center personnel? The Yamaha specs online read 80 W + 80 W (8 ohms) only. The dynamic power per channel is 105\125\150\175 for 8\6\4\2 ohms. I would guess the earlier information was a copy/paste accident/error on the site, but talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater as well as any credibility.
Considering this video came out prior to its release, going by print was the smartest choice.
So the winner of the "Origami-Bonsai amps" battle is... both? Ok... Fair enough. I'd like to see you test, if possible, a Douk Audio H7 Pro TPA-3255. It kind of resembles Johnny-5's head.
Douk hates me. I'll get sued for sure if I say anything disparaging.
@@scientificaudiophile Well, it is disappointing to see another manufacturer that can't handle a review. I felt a previous review of the H7 Pro from another reviewer was "too positive".
I got the aiyima a70, couldn't tell the difference between that and the za3 I have. I also used the upgraded op amps and saga + as my preamp. Even with the high pass filter on the a70, I couldn't tell a difference so I sent it back and upgraded my wiim mini to a wiim pro.
Hmm, I wonder if this will have a negative impact on dCS sales? Surprised not more on this.
Thankyou...let's say if the speaker listening position won't allow level match is it better to use two amps or how would you recommend to solve this in budget gear with seperate volume control
Good point. There’s no balance on the Aiyima. Best to get a preamp and the FOSI’s.
@@scientificaudiophile which pre amp would you recommend? thanks.
@@manitsony6703 a lot depends on your source components, but the GUSTARD P26 is excellent.
Actually in some ways, an external power supply could be good. Its keeping switching noise, even if slight - away from other components internally. I hate bricks and to be honest, I'd be willing to accept the tiniest increase in noise to keep clutter at bay - if the difference is virtually inaudible, meaning its only showing up on a spec sheet.
"I went into a deep depression..." 🥲
Lost 20 lbs of fat and gained 10 lbs of muscle. It was terrible and I don’t wish it on my worst enemies.
Just bought a Fosi TB10 and resurrected two old 24 watt samsung speakers that sounded like crap with the original samsumg amp they came with. They sound great with an old and 100 dollar Kenwood turntable.
I wont ever need an AB amp. Dont have the cash or wont spend it.
You might want to check your sink, it sounds like your tap is running in this video
I think I finally figured out my mic issues.
Currently playing vinyl through a mid level 2000s Onkyo AVR in Direct mode through Advent Maestros. Would these be a step up if I used a refurb’ed Kenwood KA-5002 as a preamp?
I’d stick with the onkyo
@@scientificaudiophileThank you. What about a Schiit Aegir 2? Certainly willing to step up in $ if worth it.
Definitely, if you don’t mind spending the money, well worth it.
Last one, Gjallarhorn able to push some 89 dBs and be a non class D option in the budget category or just go straight to the Aegir
I have a similar situation where I need to change between speakers and headphones, and you are the first one that gave me the knowledge that all the outputs are in use at the same time. Thanks!
Glad I could help
@@scientificaudiophile This was a dealbreaker for me for ifi products. The Fiio K11 was the perfect one in my use case. Got that info also from your channel 👍👍
I need a streamer with a usb out and qobuz integration. Any recommendations?
I’d get a WiiM and hook it up to a SMSL DP5se
@@scientificaudiophile connect wiim to dp5se using optical? Also the dp5se spec says USB 'audio' as output. Is this analog or digital out? I wanted digital out to connect to my DDC/reclocker which feeds into my dac. Thank you for your response!!

Best under $50 Aiyima B01-has an impossible to believe 50w per main channel and 100watts for a passive sub. Also has active sub out and Bluetooth….this $43 also includes the power supply. Good enough for the garage. Best at just under $60 Nobsound G2. Mono amp with a switch between crossed passive sub out and full range PBTL/FLAT mode..no Bluetooth with this one; but it’s like the cheaper garage version of the Aiyima 07max. The $54 includes the power supply. Both very fun cheap garage level amps.
This guy spent all his money on high end equipment and now cant afford braces. Should have went with the WiiM amp, 200 dollar yamaha 2 channel and some elac debuts. then he could get that grill fixed.
Audio is no hobby. 1¢ spent on my teeth is 1¢ that can't buy a better audio setup. I'm an audiophile, not a monster.
SA. If you had 2 of these v3 Mono's and a Emotive A2M laying around to a pair of Lintons.. What would you use?
I know darko would use the v3's. I would always choose the AB amp vs cheap chip amps.
I didn't know Bish had a Bothers In Arms album (or song). Some would say Class D amps are as edited inside as far as circuitry, as the title track of Dire Straits Brothers In Arms. They took out two original verses to be politically correct and sensitive to Gays. "That lttle. F___t got his own jet airplane." "That little F____t he's a millionaire." For years they left those lines in the song and then music video. Does Bish play the original version or the "we must not offend anyone" (except with crap for music) edited version? How times have changed since the 1980s. Is there any connection between todays very bad, lacking in creativity and originality music and audio sales? If the music isn't very good nowadays, why buy audio equipment, to hear bad music? Of course the wiser among us know where to find good music. In the back catalogs of the 1950s to early 1980s, before creativity took a dive off a cliff, and continues to this day. Maybe great music and creativity, (except comedy which comes out of pain), requires good times, not the manic times we have now. The human psyche and human creative genius works best when not clouded by the pessimism of current times. The 1960s and 1970s were very optimistic times. Times of hope and change. Who could imagine things changing now? We are bombarded by con artists from every direction trying to get at our money. Remember back many years ago, when our phone would ring and we would be excited at the sound of it? These turbulent times are not made for bringing out creative genius. Thank God for the older music, and the old equipment. Class D is catching up and might catch it some day. Some of it anyway.
Class D is indeed catching up. I've never heard of this group "Dire Straits". Since Bish doesn't sing, there are no words to be edited out. Her music will always pass the test of time.
YT. Dire straits, Sultans of Swing, alchemy live, from 1983. Mark Knopfler gets some amazing sounds from his guitar considering he doesn't use a pick!
Fosi is coming out with a Hypex amplifier which might shake things up a bit if it is well executed and affordable. They do sell a $200 AB amplifier with a toroidal transformer. I will probably try it out as that is the lowest cost AB I have seen so why not ? But I digress, excellent content on a topic that has been played out but you made it interesting. I would really like to see Fosi tackle a GaN amp and bring the price down.
I heard that the son of Bish has an enormous organ that will require amps of this magnitude to drive
You heard correctly.
@Scientific Audiophile or anyone that eard Dynavox VT-80, what are your thoughs between it and this chinese amps?
Sorry, I never heard a dynavox amp.
