How to Choose Replacement Steel String Tuners
How do you bend plastic binding for acoustic?
Is this the same for plastic binding?
Excellent fret slotting jig. One of the smartest purchases I made. Now I wish I could still buy more scale length templates to use with it.
Is there a good substitute for LMI Instrument Maker's glue, or can you still get it somewhere?
2:45 Can I use turpentine to degrease the bone? can you list other alternatives to camp fuel (hard to obtain here), thank you.
Kind of seems like this wasn't thought through very well.
This is so satisfying, I have a K&K in my A style and it is incredible so wanted to do the same for my F-style. I might still pay an expert though 😂
Thank you ❤
great video thank you robert, just wondered can i use nitro cellulose over the z epoxy? many thanks in advance. paul uk
Magic!
My friend where location I want to come in i have same problem in my guitar 🎸?
what grit of sand paper?
What’s the best method for knots Would you use the ca method or epoxy
Great video, thanks!! Would it be possible to make an acoustic guitar neck out of Douglas fir ?
What am I doing wrong? I've been trying to get a dull patch as glossy as the rest of the front, using 15000 wet sandpaper. It doesn't seem to be doing anything near a shine. I'm about to use a buffer, when it arrives.
Mat Mat, I’m looking for a template for the ukulele Tanner
I was just thinking the other day Considering my environments at the moment waterbased is the way to go for me But I’m stuck between 2 products Now obviously we know LMII shut down which sucks cause it had a much more broader selection of tonewoods than many other luthier supplier sites. Anywho I’m stuck between 2 products. Stew Mac’s ColorTone water based and obviously Brite Tone product mentioned in this video. Have a you had any experience with ColorTone’s water based?
Robert O’Brien is the best teacher on the Internet. Trust me. !!!
Awesome!! You made it simple. Please make more videos..thanks!
Unfortunately LMI is no more. The website promotes Stewmac now. I don't know if they were bought out or what, but I never like it when choices are gone.
It's a shame because they were a great company.
Thank you. Very useful.
What if the body is colored...like red or blue and the chip is down to bare wood....would you mix the dye/coloring into the CA superglue at the same time...or wait until the dye/coloring is dry on the repair and then apply the clear CA glue over that? Thanks!
Great video! Thank you!
I am in search of a grand concert level classical guitar, at this level almost all are French Polish finish, is this finish type really something for the non-professional performer should consider? This finish is used for the sound quality it resonates however seems very soft and susceptible to the nails. I cannot imagine putting a clear guard on such a fine instrument and seems it would defeat the purpose of the finish. I do not play flamenco but do use nails. I was told to budget $300-400 for top refinishing. A lacquer finish would be good but not seeing it used much on higher end instruments. I am in the used market based on funds.
I inherited a Cordoba Solista CD and took it to my guitar tech for a tune up, who does excellent work on my electric guitars and Taylor steel string acoustics. He said everything out there about a 3-4 mm range of string height on a classical guitar at the E strings on the 12th fret is nonsense, and it should be more like 1.5-2 mm. Something about the higher height is because of underbow and with a quality guitar like I have he can easily make it 1.5-2 mm with no buzzing. I am new to nylon string guitar playing and his advice seems to contradict everything out there, but like I said, he has never failed me when it comes to my other guitars. Any thoughts about what he is telling me?
That seems low frankly. I'd try it at 3.5, 2.5 first and see how you like it. As you lower the action on a classical guitar, you change the way the strings excite the top surface of the guitar. The result can be that you lose volume in the sound. Some concert guitars are deliberately high in the action to project more sound and allow you to dig in more without buzzing. It's a matter of taste at the end of the day.
Great video. I’ve been considering adding a pickup to my mandolin and this gives me the confidence to try it.
So helpful! Many thanks for sharing.
I love processing my own bone.
What a wonderful tutorial! Thank you so much for taking the time. This is super helpful.
What to do when the fretboard and fingerboard and all maple?
IMO...3mm is a good action for a classical guitar. There is really NO standard.
Why can't you just spray the guitar with a gloss nitro-lacquer aerosol?
Thank you for your simple directions!
What about using white-tail deer horns?
Try it! But might be too soft and brittle.
I think you meant to say "device" instead "advice"
Probably. You'd have to strip it back to bare wood and then completely refinish it. It will be a lot of work but might be worth it.
I got a 12 string acoustic guitar that someone painted on the body. Is it possible to remove the painting and bring it back to it's original state ...🤞🤞🤞
Those "circular motions" 😮. There is no reason, what so ever, to use those. I really mean never! Not when you sand, polish or wash your car, always use straght motions!
What will happen now that LMI are closing up? What a shame!
Wow Super useful video, thank you!
Stupendo grazie tante per il video, e complimenti
Thanks for posting. I play finger style and anchor. Pick guards are slippery. I prefer them off the guitar. I actually like it when he the anchor area is a little roughed up.
No respirator mask?
Hi, I took a class in building archtop guitars over the summer and I now have a beautiful unfinished archtop guitar (and no guidance how to finish it / I wok out of a small bedroom in an apartment) .Through much experimentation and research I decided on tru-oil finish. Today (on my sample/experiments) I accidentally scratched one of my samples that was curing for six months with my a very light touch from fingernail making me question the durability of tru-oil. My question is this: Can I put Royal lac over tru_oil? Also, if that is true is it necessary to thin out the Royal lac (as in a French polish) or can I get a perfectly flat shiny coat right out of the can. Thanks so much any any insight you can give me at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks Frederick C
I have no information about the compatibility of these two products - sorry!
Hi, im wandering if i can do this method to a satin finish guitar. Would i have to sand it before hand (if so what is the proper way to sand?) or can I jump straight to the micromesh? Thanks
This will not work on a satin finish. It is meant to buff a new lacquer finish.
What was the grain filler you used?
I used a water based filler by LMI.
@@OBrienGuitars thanks
Just tried these figures in an online conical taper calculator and the taper degree result was 1.36°. Am I missing something?
Now how can you make too glossy a bit dull. Not satin but not too glossy?
I suppose you might be able to dull the finish a bit by inducing very fine scratches - in other words, the opposite of removing scratches by polishing. A cut polish might dull the finish a bit. If it didn't work you could always repolish it, but I'd be very nervous to try this honestly.
Love the end of the video in slow motion hahahaha Just close the bearing holder case 🤣🤣
❤ Danke 🙏
