On 5/15/2024 Ari Oppenheimer and I climbed Mt Rainier's Gib Ledges route and skied the Gib Chute. Here's the the complete ski descent, with some bonus turns in Nisqually Chute at the end. This was the 8th different route I've skied from the summit of Rainier. Music: Rush, "Xanadu"

Compilation of footage from my first two flights in the Wasatch. Both started from the Grandeur launch. The first day was an out & back to Big Cottonwood Canyon, the second was downwind to North Salt Lake. Music: Led Zeppelin, "In the Light"
TIMpanogos part 2: West Face

Mt Timpanogos is the Rainier of the Rockies. It has 3 distinct summits, virtually unlimited ascent & descent options covering all aspects, and its scale is totally unlike anything else in the Wasatch - it feels massive. So it's no surprise that I've spent a lot of time on this mountain. During previous visits to Utah I skied the north and south sides of Timpanogos, and felt I had just scratched...

Goldilocks Project Part 2: Dresden Face

The Goldilocks Project is my effort to ski three Wasatch classics (Monte Cristo, Dresden Face, Lone Peak's NE Couloir) that eluded me during the 2023 season because they require very specific conditions that rarely materialize. As Goldilocks would say, conditions for accessing and skiing these lines need to be "not too hot, not too cold, just right!" In 2023 I made attempts on all three but bai...

White Pine Dirty Dozen Day 4: Red Baldy
zhlédnutí 245Před 5 měsíci
During the last week of January 2024 I set out to ski 12 big lines from the 4 summits of Little Cottonwood's White Pine Cirque (Red Top, Thunder Mountain, White Baldy, and Red Baldy). This is a 4-part series covering the highlights of this project. On my fourth trip into White Pine (and the last day of high pressure) I managed to hit all of the remaining lines on my list. By this point the sun,...

Red Mountain - South Face ski descent / Lost Boys remake

Skiing the South Face of Red Mountain in January 2022. Descending toward the thick fog had a distinctive Lost Boys vibe, hence the music choice. Intro footage is from a paragliding flight over the Snoqualmie Pass area later in 2022. Music: Gerard McMann, "Cry Little Sister (Theme from The Lost Boys)"

That endless descent is simply epic!
Awesome!!!
That some real pretty crud
I'm happy to say thank you for sending me this video, which I really appreciate.🌅have a great weekend
Thanks for sharing! Was this a recent flight off the V? I’ll be there this weekend hoping to get one off the V.
This was in April.
What a sensational line man. Wow! What time of year was this?
March
Good times.
sick man
Also awesome
Awesome line
Sweet line in that gully! I bet is is awesome to drop in first on a good day!
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a fun adventurous day on the mountain!
Probably one of my favorite lines I've ever skied.
Crushing it!
Sweet turns, sweet tunes
Sweet turns
wow the conditions looked sick
Dang! That looks pristine 👌
Gawd I love corn season :)
This was actually in January! But yes, agreed.
What a wild summer flight! Looks amazing up there in the North Cascades!
That took a lot of courage and skill. So much rockfall on that route!
"Promo SM"
That's how you do it, very nice!!!
Nice barrell riding!
go Charlieeeeee
Aspects in this video may be steeper than they appear !
Absolutely unreal. Those are TALL days for the Northern Cascades. I would love to fly them one day....
Crazy how bad the coverage is on the Ford during a deep winter, curse those SW winds all season! Amora Vida couloir looks sweet!
My dog doesn't have the clearance for that.
Nice skiing! What mount and shooting mode was used for this?
360 mode, with camera mounted as close to eye level as possible. I find that other options for filming POV skiing are borderline unwatchable.
Madness
Nothing quite like trying to make turns on breakable crust. I've been considering the La Sals for a couple of years. How long is the skinner? I have about a 3-4 mile limit until my knees start to protest.
Definitely longer than that if you want to get to the good stuff
How heavy was your pack on the descent - estimating
I have no idea, but we did it as a day trip with lightweight glacier gear. The real question is, what's the minimum amount of stuff I need in order to do this safely?
Absolute madness!
so sick Tim!
maestro!
Love that. Glad it showed up in my recommendations. Greetings from Germany 🫂
Lies this is all steven's pass for sure.
For those asking, here's a list of places to ski: www.skiresort.info/ski-resorts/usa/
Dude- no need for the snark. Just curious and didn’t recognize ‘em all. If you don’t wanna share with a local, why even post on CZcams?
@@booger5514 I don't think anyone simply "forgets" to post locations for videos like this. If no location is specified you can be sure it's not meant to be revealed. I share locations on some of my other videos because a high barrier to entry prevents crowding, or because the terrain is wide open and can support a lot of traffic. The lines featured in this video are extremely sensitive to traffic - I've skied some of them with as little as 3-4 previous tracks and it was not enjoyable at all. So...if I know who you are and how the information will be used I might share locations privately. But there's no way I'm sharing it on a public website just because someone with an anonymous screen name asked me to. This is how things work in 2022 now that everyone and their grandmother is out in the backcountry.
Awesome! List of descents?
+1, a list would be great
Are those vintage skis?
I'm not sure what counts as "vintage" these days, but I'm on Scott Superguide 88s from 2020 or thereabouts.
Nice ski.. nice video. snow looked good, The camera POV makes it look 15 - 20 deg slope when in fact, it is not. And thanks for the new tunes.. very David Byrne, Talking Heads-esque.
It's true, there's always a tradeoff between recreating the experience in the most realistic way possible, vs creating a video that people will actually enjoy watching. I film in 360 mode so I could theoretically use any angle for creating these videos. Adjusting the view downwards makes it look steeper, but quality suffers. Most ski videos that use this technique are borderline unwatchable.
Awesome flights Tim!
Nicely done! I summited and skied the Fuhrer finger on June 21st. Kautz looks like such a fun line though, will likely be the goal next year.
Steel legs 🙏 respect .
Brilliant🙌
I see you've been working on your slough management
I'm afraid that will forever be a work in progress.
Didn't see any actual "Pow-Surfing". Too bad. It would have been epic.
Crushing it! Day trip?
I did it as an overnight so I could hit both the NE Couloir on Sherpa Peak and the Sherpa Glacier Couloir on Stuart. Definitely recommend spending 2-3 days as it's a long way in there and there's lots to ski once you're there.
Fuuuun it looks nice and light!
Where are you, looks somewhat like Snoqualmie zone?
