The Strat can do everything. The archtop can‘t (especially with humbuckers on). There are some with P90s yet. But apart from sound possibilities: fingerpicking is easier on an archtop.
That's a very good observation. I still mainly play an archtop for all of my jazz gigs because it's what I prefer, but if I have a gig where I need to play jazz/rock/funk I would never even think of playing my archtop because it's a one trick pony haha The only thing I feel like any solid body can't do is the Freddie Green style comping. When I'm comping I like to go down to basically fully acoustic which is why I just can't get away from playing an archtop. It does that so well!

I believe it was the stock SSV in the bridge position.
Please share amp and amp settings
This was a long time ago, but this is what I typically use for guitar and amp settings. Guitar: Tone around 3-4, Volume around 7 Amp: Bass around noon, Treble around 3o'clock and if there is a Middle knob that is usually around 1o'clock. Amp settings heavily vary depending on what amp type I am using.

You've got to be kidding. The strat sounds like a strat and the jazz guitar sounds like a jazz guitar. If you can't tell the difference then you should put videos on CZcams.
The point of the video isn’t to say they sound the exact same. And it’s not a jazz guitar, it’s an Archtop. The video just demonstrates that most guitars you can get a great jazz tone from your hands and the tone knob. They don’t sound the same, but could easily both be used for jazz. I’ve used strats, Tele’s, Les Paul’s for jazz and they all can sound great. Still my favorite is an Archtop, but you can make most things work. There is a great video of Cecil Alexander playing a Jackson guitar for Jazz and it sound killer… all in his hands.

What kind of amp are you playing through?
A lot of tele's have this incredible bell-like sound perfect for high note melodies. Also low end is great on a tele. Mid range is to me where an archtop shines and in my opinion also where a strat takes it over a tele, is mid range, differently to an archtop though. At the end of the day, I'd pick em all ;)
exactly my thought when i heard this. And i listened on an old iphone 8 so that goes to show this vid has great audio. The tele is so much more ergonomic, is this thing. I don’t think i want another large body guitar.. my right shoulder is begging me

Thanks for the kind words! I can’t remember the exact levels for everything on the amp, but they are the exact same settings on both guitars. I did not change any settings.
To me they sounded almost the same.

the strat is somehow more jangly and yet a bit muddy on the low end. The archtop is more balanced and better note definition

any thing like an Xotic RC booster? I like the LSL 🎧
I've never used the RC Booster so I'm not really sure. But the LsL definitely gives a different color to your clean tone when running it with the gain almost off. Adds a lot of low end warmth (not boomy at all), but still really retains the clarity on the top end.
