Interesting @christianibendorf9086 Which part would you say is toxic for neurodivergent people? I feel the suggestions could be leveraged for neurodivergent and neuronormative people alike. Also, it would be great to understand in what context "when there are only generic roles in your field" would be as well. Do you mean that there are only generic roles listed on a job board? Or something else? And yes, unfortunately in this market, some companies are "collecting people". I've seen some companies that have "future opportunity" job postings, which on one hand, I can see the value. But on the other hand, should have a bit more transparency when it comes to timing.

"If you're not smiling: MINUS ONE!. If you're not giving 50-80% eye contact: MINUS ONE! If I can't see your hands or there's no enthusiasm in your delivery: MINUS ONE! …" For example, some people won't improve their interview performance by forcing themselves to stare at the other person. Others are basically incapable of a "normal" smile. Some have a hard time focusing and prioritizing when speaking. Too bad those are just 5-out-of-ten-10 "garbage" no matter how experienced, educated, productive, innovative… they may be in other fields. They lose because they have a weird smile and are bad at talking … 😐

Indeed @motherstodaughters! Many folks focus on "what" is communicated and how sometimes has just as much or even more weight to making it effective!

Good question. If you're referring to the rest of the career coaches out there, there's a lot of overlap, and am similar to many. If I had to pick a few things that makes me different, I would say: 1. Lived experience: I worked in industry, worked as a recruiter and a hiring manager (many career coaches just share their academic knowledge of job search/career, or experience as a recruiter, or experience leading times - I'm at the intersection of all of that which puts me in a small subset of career coaches) 2. Thirst for knowledge and focus on first principles: I don't consider myself an expert in anything and say I'm a forever student, learning to get better. I focus on why things are the way they are so that folks can make the right decisions. One name I give myself is a "DJ for personal development" where I "remix" what's out there to see if that resonates. 3. Care: I would love for everyone on the planet to reach their potential. I'm starting with the ones that want to be helped. Sorry for the long response. I'm sure that will change over time as well.

Same here @DimmyV Though I'm wondering what happens when AI becomes so good that you can't tell the difference? Especially in the context of a customer service call: What if you didn't know the voice on the other end was AI generated or not? As long as it got you what you wanted, would it matter? AI isn't there yet, though perhaps soon enough!

Depends on the context, though if I had to pick one, then it's a toss up between social skills communication skills. It's the skills for connecting with other humans that's important, though much of that is based on communication skills. So they really go hand-in-hand. What do you think?

If you want to increase your likelihood to land and interview, yes. It's really statistics. Similar jobs will have similar requirements, responsibilities, and qualifications BUT not exactly the same. So if you update each resume based on the job description, then you're more likely to match what they are asking for. The good thing is that when you make enough updates, you get better and faster since you probably already wrote a bullet for a similar requirement before.
