I trimmed the last bits of my dyed ends off two and a half years ago, no regrets! I love my “bride of Frankenstein” streaks that are slowly coming in, and my already very ashy hair color is getting cooler by the day. Also, not touching up roots and redyeing all the time rules.

I feel prettiest when I’m carrying my children in my arms, when I’m making them smile and laugh.

When I hit fifty I really stopped caring what people thought of me. I think that when I was younger I would SAY I didn't care, but I finally started to believe and LIVE it when I got older. A big part of that was dressing how I wanted, ignoring the so-called rules for fashion, hair and makeup for older women (in a nutshell they are spend lots of money and cover any part of yourself that might be considered "flawed') started posting makeup and fashion looks on social media without filters and you know what, the feedback has been HUGELY positive. It's given me so much confidence to know that I can be my authentic self and people will still like me and not ridicule me for "dressing too young" or being "old mutton dressed up as lamb" which are phrases I would personally like to see go away forever. It's important for younger women to see older women comfortable in their own skins. I loved the advice in this to stop dressing for the male gaze and start dressing to feel comfortable and sensual and confident. That is what is most sexy anyway! I love drop waist dresses and that whole 1920s silhouette...the flappers were the OG Queen Baddies!

Years ago I attended many artist friends’ exhibits where i am always asked if I were an artist too. I have always answered no. Then one day I answered yes, I am my own canvas. Today at 71, people always tell me how excited they are to see what I would do next. You are right, I dress for me and it is a performance that does require an audience and at the same time I don’t require affirmations. Of course I enjoy the compliments, The best one was this: You pull off a look that on anyone else will look ridiculous! My thumbnail picture is from when I was 61,

You're going to love it! I just finished my 2 yr journey to grow out, and I have 0 regrets. In fact, I hit the jackpot. I now have a white stripe above each eyebrow, and love my hair and feel cool in it for the first time since high school!

I guess a colourful collier of emeralds, rubies and diamonds all bunched would be "cheap looking" ....you could call it lack of taste but is it? There is a reason actors say never work with children or animals! Love the wide leg gold/bronze pants, an alternative to a party dress when you don't want to shave your legs. I'd call those polka dot pants palazzo pants, not capris, which are slim fitting (and coming back into style). Your scarves are gorgeous, too. I own a wine leather mini skirt and forest green faux leather midi skirt which I've never worn. Need colder weather, but you reminded me that I had them. One vintage item I never see but which my mother always wore is culottes. Very practical but dressier than pants.

This PERFECTLY describes what I'm going through right now. I'm definitely in my cocoon after watching my daughter go off to art school in FRANCE! SO PROUD of her but feeling so sorry for my loss of self...of purpose. I've been dragging for months...trying to lose weight and failing at every turn. Feeling discouraged. I really enjoy your videos and respect your POV but found Apfel's style to be too heavy and over the top. I don't think I've seen an outfit of hers that I would duplicate but there are dozens you've put together that I would wear. Of course, to each her own.

I wore Twig, Mocha with Spice liner for decades and they were perfect. Now that the replacements are available I am over the moon! Mon Rouge by Paloma Picasso was the best red ever, nothing has replaced it, could Russian Red be it? I just discovered your site and it sure is nice to meet someone on the same wavelength. I always feel happier and inspired, never bored. Thanks! I like people who foster animals, fostered many kittens in the past.

Diane, This video "takes the cake". I moved a while back to the North. (I'm quite southern and over 55.) The ladies here are precious, good hearted and generous. They do believe I am alot...always wearing make-up and crazy dresses or skirts. I still like it. (BTW - I began using the Skin Food creme and it's amazing. May I ask where you get yours?)

Complimenting others is a great life exercise. It will make you feel better too and will brighten someone's day. Get into the habit of doing it regularly and see if you don't feel happier.

Your normal makeup suits you perfectly. I think there's no need for a change. The "opposite" eyes aren't my jam. My opinion isn't important here, and I do love the idea of a style challenge. Breathing fresh air into your closet and spending time playing with all the possibilities is a great exercise. You can do 100 different things with your beautiful scarves. The sky's the limit!
