The Primitive MILSIM of ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead in its Heyday
The PLAAGF's big up is mostly its Armor unit. I honestly can't really think of much else to say about it, it's really the most banal of the factions of Squad.
best squad channel imo, squad has a very steep knowledge curve with vehicles, layers, and a million other things once you SL. Keep pumping the player base with knowledge!
I like FTL
🌴
Incompetent and cocky Squad leaders should be spoken to directly. SL's that micromanage and yell at people are the worst, I tell them they are shitty at leading and that they can fuck off, then I leave. I'm not trying to change them, because I can't. Incompetent squad leaders on the other hand are ones I try to help by telling them the potential problem or risk with their idea. Sometimes they listen, sometimes they don't. As long as they are receptive I'll stay in the squad. If they keep making boneheaded mistakes while ignoring advice, I'll just leave. I find it's better to lead by example on a server by being an excellent SL and building a positive reputation. That way you don't have to worry about the leadership of your squad, because you take responsibility for it.
squads aiming kinda sucks so aug hip fire is nice during cqb
Not a faction I have played much but I immediately noticed how effective the AUG was for CQB and hipfire. Since I play mostly infantry this makes them stick out in my mind.
I have witnessed couple games, where ADF did have 4 ASLAVs, and still lost. Yes, they are really nimble and mobile, but lack of any hardier and punchier IFV is a minus. Played them with MEA on BMP 1-2s and a single T72. When their Abrams was destroyed, we manged to form a gunline at actual point instead of attacking, and T72 essentialy had a free reign, farming lots of kills (it did matter, since we win by 3 or 8 tickets)
Hmmmmm, I really don't have much to say about the ADF. Like, it really doesn't stand out in my head. Besides that fact that their Mechanized units has no tracked APCs or IFVs whatsoever. IRL the ADF has M113s that it uses which are soon to be replaced by South Korean K21 IFVs. So, there's something there for that. But besides OWI deciding to run against their own unit definitions, I kinda feel the ADF is okay. If your team votes ADF you'll probably do okay.
You missed one of the cons for ADF mechanised inf, it lacks anti tank capabilities due to the inability to set up atgm emplacement
It is able to. All of the ADF units can place ATGMs on RAAS or when they are attacking on Invasion.
Amphibious Assault units only exist for the sole purpose of certain layers. They are used for the attackers for Sanxian Invasion v1, Harju Invasion v1, Skorpo Invasion v2, Black Coast Invasion v1. Sanxian, Harju, and Black Coast Invasions v1 only allows USMC, whereas Skorpo Invasion v2 only allows all of the Amphibious Assault units. Honestly, they all function more like Combined Arms, except with more amphibious transports of some description and should be treated as such.
I am just 4 minutes in and love it. I say: Lead and coordinate/take responsibility together to give the squad leader more freedom to coordinate with other SLs. I've experienced times when bad leadership broke a team (worklife). And that is only because the team let it be broken by it, instead of carrying the flame from previous good leadership.
Please skip the music in future
It's all great in the theory, but what are the chances of having 3 competent helicopter pilots in an Air Assault unit as well as competent commander and SL coordination with the helicopters. Tanks press W and Left Click, that's the requirement for mediocre play. Mediocre helicopter pilots just crash, wiping out the heli and everyone inside which is minus 15-20 tickets.
I love guides like these that aren't just the standard "Tips to X" videos. Great discussion on the other aspects of squad players need to consider!
This information is very helpful. Kobesheed #1!!!
Mechanized units almost always win against armor squads. Because all ifvs have to do is play objective and they will never see enemy tank.
"Sl can I have Fireteam?, Sl Can you tell the tank that bla bla bla, Omg what is squad 4 doing!!, Sl can you kick this guy so my friend can join, Sl tell Squad 14 that They are idiots! bla bla bla, Sl there is a Btr over there! (it's a transport truck) Sl we need more ammo! ( as if I haven't already asked for it.) Sl Claim this Vic!"( Has no other crew with him)
😂😂😂 it’s a transport truck is hilarious
Guy at 16:20 didn't give up. His timer went out
Great video on a topic that I think is sadly a very common experience. I like to SL and often would like to step up to alleviate a situation but often can't use my mic due to where I live. Might have to try creating a taxi/logi squad in that situation.
Providing transport services would be uber appreciated by your team.
Oh hi me. It's really weird to hear myself speak. But, I'm not sure how I feel about being featured in a video about following inadequite SLs. 😂
Good thing you only exemplified outstanding leadership abilities my good sir :)
good video, can I see your graphics settings, cause I don't know why graphic is so bad but my settings are on epic

What was your MOS ? What combat operations was you apart of ?
Expeditionary signal operator. OP Freedom's Sentinel, Afghanistan
Worst SL are the ones with grand plans in mind. Best SL I've seen was a guy who found out he got 5 steam-sales newbies in his 8-men sq, so he just gave up actual fighting and spend the whole match with all the sq members in a relatively safe rear point and patiently talks through basics and answers their questions. Me and the other guy just feel ok with it and act like some sort of assistants.😅
Haha that sounds like a great time honestly
People can be both types. But in essence you describe the difference between a good leader and a good coach. And like I mentioned above, many may argue the best is being both, and that good leadership includes coaching.
And the main thing, plz stop running in most random directions after taking the point. As a sl, I don't want to run after you and risk to face some ifv on my car to take out some random ass player with fish size brain. Moreover, as sl, I often face some guys that spawn on random hubs or main base and then request unnecessary vehicles. Don't do that, don't be assholes(sorry for my bad English)
I think it’s worth making a video about how to stop causing inconvenience to others
I usually ask about what is that vehicle for, if there are no response I simply dgaf about it
I find that if we've capped the point, and we've pulled down all known enemy FOBs in the area, then running off in random directions can provide valuable intel, even if that intel costs you a ticket. For example, if you run off and find an IFV, hopefully you stay alive, but either way when you die you become a wealth of information if the enemy starts setting up on your dead body. I agree with the last point, the random HAB thing can get annoying quickly.
Sometimes I miss the military, so I sit in a guard post for about 5 minutes in Squad.
Thank you for your service.
I realize that I may underperform in many cases, prob due to pocking up CMDR or playing once-twice a week. But fuck it! Many SLs are not even trying!
It's funny how simple these techniques are but how quickly we forget to use them when actually in game
A lot of this can be mitigated by auto kicking marksmans
I strongly believe that each squad member know their skills well. If someone selects marksman I will make clear that: A: You will never be more than 200 meters away from the rest of the squad. B: I expect at least 20% more kills than any other of the squad members. If the person clearly fails the above I will tell them to choose another kit or kick him. This actually acts as a morale booster for the squad, knowing that I expect them to be master of their kits or ask for help.
Oh you’re one of those guys… But for real man there’s nothing wrong with marksman. I’ve seen them being used properly more than not. And it really sucks being kicked for no reason.
@@92ford13The problem is that Marksman is extremely niche in its application. And when we consider the meta going on, where both teams always picked Armored units, you don't want to be wasting that extra AT slot with a Marksman. Marksman is fine when you're facing Light Infantry or Air Assault, and maybe even Support units, but those don't get picked very often (except Support in Invasion where they're very often used by the defenders)
@@AndrewofDoom The problem is a lot of people don't play great in the kit they choose. I've seen shitty AT not being able to hit a tracked APC 300 meters away despite given 3 shots. More people should learn to play and hit on Jensen before choosing a limited kit in an online game. Medic isn't the easiest kit either, sure it's not as obviously detrimental as an AT that can't aim, but without skills you will always need a body guard. Sure the marksman could have learnt to excel as AT, but still a Marksman with game sense who gets 30 kills is usually not someone you want to just go as rifleman or AT
this is what we all needed
A squad or multiple fire teams. You mean like a squad?
Good video. Just one thing. I think you underestimate tank's ability to slap down helis. Sure you can overcome this with high levels of teamwork, but I've come to accept teamwork as the exception rather than the norm for squad. Thus I say airborne is a high skill level faction that will not work in most games. But with a well coordinated team it is absolutely lethal.
No doubt! Affirm all. It's unfortunate that team oriented cohesion is so few and far between. Though it may be a pipe dream, I fantasize about Squads potential and imagining well executed airborne assaults really gets my jimmies off.
Do you have any server recommendations for servers with good commanders and people working together ? I used to play potato fields mostly but that was hit and miss
Unfortunately, I too have been unable to find reliable servers with adequate leadership. That's actually a main concept in the next video I'm working on. However, I can recommend a few approaches to you that have helped me: More often than not, the servers with large queues tend to have 'better' players, but sometimes the wait is unbearable and not worth it in the end.. an inherent risk. The time of day also plays a large role in how communicative players are as it seems late nights foster a quieter bunch. Finally, and it may just be my habit, but I find better luck avoiding any servers titled 'new player friendly' and such. Hope this helps you. Someday I would really enjoy building a community and hosting a server for likeminded players that aims to bridge the gap between casual and milsim gameplay.
Which is the more versatile unit in your opinion? Motorized or Combined Arms?
In general, I'd say a Combined Arms unit with available wheeled AND tracked armor would be more versatile than a Motorized unit with JUST wheeled IFVs/APCs. However, the factions aren't set up universally so some units lack one or the other type of vehicle. Even some of the "Mechanized" assets are wheeled. It really depends, but yeah overall I'd opt for both types of vehicles on my team if I were to solely aim for versatility.
I love These Tutorials great work man keep it up 👍
this unit type series needs to be mandatory viewing before players are allowed to vote.
Deny blueberries their right to vote haha I like it
Combined and mechanized units are plagued by the problem of armor squads playing WT style game, or vice versa - deaf and blind infantry. But cases of good coordination are not too rare, and there is one in place - infantry can push out enemies to the last point while AFVs clean up all the mess/patrol surrounding area. I once played a match with my friends, 3-maninng ZBD04. I was vic’s commander and in commander’s spot, while frens occupied driver’s seat and gun. Ended up supporting a little bit push out to the actual point, banished away Stryker, and demolished TOW position. Rearmed and repaired at conveniently built and constantly refueled rep station. And prevented enemy infantry from digging down our radio on defensive point as well as stopping further advance. The map was Talil, so it is not surprise, we had easier time operating almost on our own (although allies moved in after initial deflection to restore FOB). And in the very end we sent in three ATGMs at Abrams tank in an ambush position from an ambush position of our own (hehe), but it only forced it to retreat. Still good enough to render it unoperational. Went 0 deaths. Maybe 1, when I tried to repair engine.
it is not really that simple especialy for tanks in squad. It is just not ticket cost effective to support infantry as squad currently stands. You can be killed by infantry and loose your team 10 tickets. By the time it takes enemy HAT/LAT to swarm you over you most probably will not cost enemy 10 tickets. So only viable thing to do as armor is hunt enemy armor and only when there are no more armored targets in enemy field should you do switch to something cost worse like supporting infantry. That is just how it works doing combined arms tactics in squad is really not viable if we are min maxing
I watched all your videos! Great works! Especially i love the korean military scenes
너무 감사합니다 😘 대한민국 필승!
Nice
first comment, dope video as always

whats this game?
Squad www.joinsquad.com/
Thank you for this knowledge transfer 🫡
great guide!
I am sorry, but apart from description of factions this just saying in different words "amphibious forces use water, exploit wide shore and are very fast on water". 8 minutes of flavour that doesnt contain any useful information
No need to apologize, as I too affirm the core of your feedback. While producing this guide in the series, it became increasingly apparent that in-game mechanics and advantages for amphibious units are extremely limited. Nevertheless, the niche and seldom potential of these amphibious strategies are applicable to a small aspect of the game, most effectively being implemented by other unit types that happen to have boats or amphibious vehicles. Especially since Amphibious Assault units are only playable on four maps. I really appreciate the analysis, thank you.
Can't wait the Combined Arms episode
Really wish the attacking units in invasion got more support, like 50% reduced cooldown of artillery or something, I rarely see attacking units win in invasion
Yeah you're completely right sadly. The real problem is conventional vs conventional invasion. At least when fighting instruments or militia you have better armor
Worst faction types, unfortunately : ( but a good video!
But also the most fun
ive been really loving this series. thanks for the w content
Much appreciated :) The series has felt rewarding to produce and seeing the community entertained by my work leads me to believe Squads competitive playerbase has been impacted positively.
