    can't wait to see what you do with arch flairs. FYI Australian laws require that you have zero tyre poke past the main treads. And given that the portals will be just outside of vehicle lift laws in my state, the tyre poke would definitely catch the eye of the cops and then the tape measure will inevitably come out. So wish these came out 1 year ago so i could have got a pre rego engineering certificate. Trying to get alterations done legally after rego is a nightmare in this country. And once a vehicle has been registered you can't go back.

    So great to see Ranger mods again. As soon as they came back (2019), everyone was making something, and then the Bronco's hit the market. We've been very happy with our RTR fender flares. Just a little info for any GFC owners HEST makes the Dually Platform 50 which is actually 4 inchs of good night sleep. Also with most of the wedge camper LenSun Solar make a nice 200 watt panel in a 42"x42" so you can easily stack two of them on a roof. Keep up the great work. Ford already has 4.27 gears in this truck. It already has a healthy amount of gearing for 37’s. Unlike the ZR2 with 3.42’s and the Tacoma with 3.58’s.. This is no Toyota with dog shit transmission gears that are ultra tall and needs 5.29’s in the axles to turn 37’s

    • @Jay-me7gw
      @Jay-me7gw Před 8 hodinami

      But the tire isn’t going to “stuff” because the Portals are like running a spacer on top of the shock in terms of where the tire sits in the wheel travel. The 2” larger radius of the 37” tire is offset by the 3.9” of portals lift, so the top of the 37” tire will be 2” farther away from the wheel well when stuffed vs stock.

      I’ve never found an aftermarket bumper I like other than the ones AEV makes. The issue is the manufacturing of them. What are your thoughts on the watts link? Seems weird that they mount the rocker th the chassis and have the roll center move 100% of suspension movement. From what I have researched the watts was developed to keep the roll center fixed in the chassis to keep the roll couple constant. Not to keep the axle from moving side to side. I don’t know, I think watts are silly but that’s just me.

    • @74weld
      @74weld Před dnem

      @@ultra4suzukisamurai679 I think the watts link is one of the best things on the Ranger. I hate the way OEM’s are setting up panhard bars these days, but I hate a rear panhard bar on an IFS. The watts link won’t get as much travel as say the bronco rear, but I’ll give up travel all day for the far superior feel of the watts link. I’d still rather have a true 4 link but the only way you are getting that is to ditch the spare and move the gas tank behind the rear axle. Ford meant this truck to be more desert focused and so a body mounted step makes sense. I just see it as so versatile I wanted to at least be able to take it through some moderate rock trails so changing the body mount to a frame mount was a must

    I so want to love the new Ranger Raptor.....but I'm too smart to dump a metric ton of coin into something like this. As someone who's daily driven a Ford F150 or F250 for over 20 years, Ford's new offerings are just not what they should be in terms of quality/reliability. And then there's the cost of duplicating this truck. You'd have to be knocking on $100k all in if you start with the Raptor version. For comparison, I currently own a 2016 F250 (diesel, 4x4, Crew Cab), a very nice twin axle trailer, and a 'totally' built Jeep TJ (that I would take on trails you wouldn't in your wildest dreams attempt with that Ranger), and I still don't have $100k total invested. IMO, Ford has let all of us down, and their financials are beginning to reflect that reality. The products 74Weld makes are terrific, but I'd opt to pick a different vehicle to install them on.

    • @74weld
      @74weld Před dnem

      Interesting take. A few comments I would make. Never allow your history to dictate your future. Just because someone had problems doesn’t mean they will forever have them. And just because someone was reliable doesn’t mean they always will be. What I will say as someone who talks with both Ford and Toyota, Ford is very committed to being the leader in offroad. From new platforms, to racing, to development, ford is pretty committed. I give them credit for that and my observation is they are emerging as the company to beat in offroad.

    • @jmo0311

      So who's quality has been superb lately @Mike-In-O-Town ? Toyota who has been regarded as the king of reliability is recalling 100k engines. I also think you misunderstand the pricing on this truck and it's use case. It's not meant to wheel the Rubicon, not every offroader is. Just like your Wrangler could out wheel it in the most technical obstacles. This would outdo that Wrangler in every other off-road metric.

      @@74weld A bit more background information. I own a site development company and rotate out trucks every couple years. The Ford trucks we've bought over the past half dozen years have been little more than service department fixtures. Add that to my friends soccer mom F150's who have had more recalls and warranty issues than an old 2001 F150 I still own, and the trend in lack of quality seems clear. All the manufacturers (including Toyota with the new Tundra) seem to be struggling with quality or workmanship issues. When I'm forking out over $100k every couple years on trucks, I expect better. My personal 2016 F250 has almost 250k miles on it and its been a joy to own, so Ford 'can' build quality if they choose to.

      @@jmo0311 I picked on Ford with my comments, I did not say Ford's competitors were any better at quality. It depresses the hell out of me that virtually all manufacturers (including Toyota) are struggling with quality of workmanship issues, while they're also jacking up pricing. Essentially pay more and get less. Oh, and short of driving on the highway or camping 'in it', I'll put my purpose built Wrangler up against that Ranger any day of the week and twice on Sunday. But it wouldn't be a fair fight given virtually every piece/part of my Wrangler has been modded or replaced over the past half dozen years.

      @@Mike-In-O-Town can’t argue with that. I think as a society we have lost a crucial element of pride in our work! Do what you love and it shows in the product. I think we could all benefit from taking more pride what we produce. It makes for happier lives and superior products!
