Powered Paraglider Training at FlyPPG June 2024
In June this year I took powered paraglider training at FlyPPG.LLC just outside of Quincy Illinois, a couple hour drive North of St. Louis. It was an awesome experience!

Hike to Window Peak 25 May 2019

Hiking up to Window Peak in the Santa Catalina mountains near Tucson Arizona, stopping to look through the arch called Window Rock on the way. I always wondered why every hikers picture of window rock is poor quality- it's because if the camera person gets out in front of the subject they will plunge- lol. The Esperero trail is almost completely overgrown and obscure. There is no path from the ...

Hiking Picacho Peak Aug 2019

Although Southern Arizona's Saguaro National Park has many awesome scenic trails to hike, my favorite hike is up Picacho Peak in a small State Park North of Tucson in Pinal County Arizona. I've hiked trails much longer and peaks much higher, but none has been so challenging over such a short distance, and loads of fun as well. But be warned that this hike can be exceptionally dangerous and even...

This video is of my hike up to the summit of Safford Peak in the Saguaro National Park just North and West of Tucson today (11May19). This was a very steep trail in many places and difficult to follow in a couple of others. Lovely day. Very warm down low but mercifully breezy and cooler up top. The "turkey vultures" were soaring really close. I could hear the sound of their wings cutting throug...
Hiking Pima Canyon to Mt Kimball 25Dec18

Christmas day was perfect for hiking Pima trail to Mt Kimball. Pima Canyon and Mt. Kimble are in the Santa Catalina mountains North of Tucson. Trail head elevation is 2,880 feet. The top is about 7,255. Round trip distance is about 15 miles depending on who you ask, and how many times you lose your way.

What a beautiful place is the Saguaro National Park outside of Tucson Arizona. This video combines two day hikes. From the Cam-Boh trailhead to the Sendero Esperanza trail head and back, and from the Sendero Esperanza trail head to Wasson Peak and back. The weather for hiking in late October is perfect. Recommended to me today 👍
I heard every car git those pennies.
We used to do this a lot when we were kids. Crushed rocks mixed with water made good paste to paint with. Or flattened nails to make tiny knives.
Beautiful field!
Did you do solo
No I didn’t. I’d love to get back out there and hit some other peaks.
We had to jump down the DC10 during initial FA training. That sucker was steep & fast! Thanks for the memories
That's epic
Imagine that small package containing THIS much inflatable-slide material
How do you think that slide 🛝 deployment will do in the event of rough seas. That must be pretty scary 😦.
that plane is definitely not in service
This plane was the embodiment of compromise after compromise in the pursuit of low cost. Ultimately it swayed more customers than Lockheed's late and more expensive L-1011. But the DC-10 was a very clumsy design.
We deplane after a crash over a damaged, still spinning engine? It is 3,600 degrees and loaded with fuel, what could go wrong?
The way it works is, the pilots alert the cabin crew that they will need to evacuate the aircraft. The cabin crew are well trained to look outside to assess if the exit is clear. If the engine was on fire the pilot would alert the crew to not use exits on the left hand side of the aircraft. And if he failed to alert them, they are still trained to look first before opening the exit. Also, many emergency evacuations don’t involve engine fires. Point being that the door is there to be used if appropriate. And for an airplane that can hold up to 385 people that’s a requirement.
I know this video is old... but do you have to nudge it out the door? Isn't there a risk of it falling inwards and deploying?
Good question. It has happened that a slide does not deploy correctly. I’ve heard of a couple instances and they were due to defect or incorrect installation.
@@aeromender Oh WOW- I wasn't expecting a quick reply haha. Thank you very much for the insight. A quick followup question though, is it similar to a painter line on a liferaft can? So it only starts the inflation process once the system falls OUT and hits the required distance.
@@Screamblade_ yes, as the slide comes off the door a lanyard is pulled which opens a valve on a cylinder full of nitrogen. The nitrogen powers a turbine which inflates the raft.
@@Screamblade_ I’m at work with my phone laying next to me so I saw your message immediately:) That’s not usually the case.
@@aeromender Awesome! Probs should get back to work then. Heh. Thank you very much for the insight- have a great rest of your week!
I wouldn't have been surprised if a whole gift shop and concession stand emerged from the inflation structure as well.
"Alright back to work everybody, party's over!"
What’s the name of the song
Hmm interesting why it goes over the burning engine instead of out the back 🤔
Cant these get disconnected from the plane and then they turn into boats?
Do these get inspected and repacked?
Oh for sure. They get sent to a shop that inspects the slide and repacks it. It’s a lot of work. Definitely not something that is done on site. We put a replacement pack back on the airplane. All aircraft slide packs have an expiration date at which point they are removed and sent in for overhaul.
wow nice
Why dose it deploy right next to the engine what if it is on fire or damaged
Flight attendants are instructed which doors to open and when. They are trained to look out the window and ensure there isn’t a fire or other hazard before they open the door.
@@aeromender oh ok that makes se
@@aeromender oh wow
This is hear breaking
Imagine if the slide falls inside the plane and inflates
That has happened on airplanes before. One time we had a plane parked in Las Vegas. The doors were closed and nobody on board. One of the slides just fired off on its own. It broke the Flight attendant seat next to the door.

that's so scary I gonna tell to you

Wow nice penny flatend it look nice i love your videos
Felix! I love Felix omg he was such a friend to me as a little kid running through the office. he would take me to lunch and hang all the time. FELIX FOR LIFE!
my father was Rene Audette he worked there my whole life.
wow was that George! holy smokes!
If you don't see the barber pole, send a passenger out on the wing to verify that the off-wing slide has inflated.
The evacuation slides are very FUNNY!!!😂
It's slow
Loved it!!
I wonder why the slide doesn’t pop out of the fuselage behind the wing, like on a 767, so the top of the slide is at the back of the wing and not at the door
The DC10 has a much narrower wing to body fairing over the wing so not enough room. That said, the overwing slide system on the 767, which I work on, is complex and notoriously sensitive and easily fired by accident. Cost to renew an overwing slide system is about $30k per side.
This slide is very dangerous, because most people will think it’s fully deployed when it’s not, and get majorly injured from jumping too early. This happens in many real-world slide evacuations
Luke Thompson The door slide operates as designed. Hopefully most people would see what is happening and look before they leap. That said, the DC10 is no longer operated in passenger service. Check out 10Tanker Firebomber on CZcams. Those are impressive DC10’s.
Thanks for this, preview for us going there this Sunday.
This goofy dude is living his best life!
That slide deployment is very stupid...
Why?
Lol i thought is was a Qatar Airways DC-10
How many of you looked this up because of the mountain lions in the news?
Awesome scenery out there!
Beautiful!
So if there were to be a massive engine fire...you would be able to get a direct route into the fire...
Dad:Why are you crying So damn loud?!
wait you have a dad my dad is at the store to buy milk 10 years ago and he never came back
Pretty vigorous pace given those time stamps. Really liked the views of the the top of table mountain and the "teeth" at the upper end of the canyon. Once in the mid-1980s I had the special treat of seeing a herd of desert bighorn in Pima Canyon.
A United Airlines DC-10, to be exact.
Very nice view!!! Thanks for posting!
