151 - Backhoe Upgrade - Making Life Easier - Kubota Compact Tractor
When using a frame mounted backhoe on a n open station compact tractor that has a swivel seat, it can become a real pain when you have to move the tractor/backhoe around a lot, thus having to swivel the seat back and forth continuously. So I decided to install a seat onto my Kubota BH77 backhoe to make my life a little easier when operating the backhoe.

Like the way you’re explaining each step by step, first time I’ve seen a chainsaw debarker attachment, neat. 16:46
Thank you kindly, I appreciate the comment. The chainsaw debarker is pretty awesome and I use it for a variety of applications. Have a great day!
Excellent, again!!!
Thank you. Have a super day!
Sir, I enjoyed your video very much, thank you!!! You are a real school. Thanks again.
Thank you. I am happy that you enjoyed the video. I appreciate you watching!
That belt looks like one from the mining industry in Canada. Did you work in the mines?
Good eye. My father worked underground in the mines, it's one of his old belts. Thanks for watching and have a great day!
@@JelenOutDoors ah right on. I have the same belt from when I worked for Vale (INCO)
Nice, my dad worked for Falconbridge ... the name has changed a while ago.
Excellent upgrade! Hands down will make using the backhoe less painful. Well done
Thanks Ross, it has made it a lot less of a hassle using the backhoe. Have a great week!
That is an outstanding improvement, Paul! I clearly remember when I had my BX23 how awkward it was to turn that seat around. I think you will really enjoy this.
It's been so much better not having to rotate the seat anymore. Have a super week John!
that looks good and i think you will have much more fun at work like before.nice video.👍👍🚜🚜
Thanks Kevin. It's so much better now. Have a great week!
Good Evening to Both Of You 😇👍👌That seat is very nice sure ( I will strait up the control levers a little to make room for your legs ) That is an OUTSTANDING Add On 👍😇Keep Up Your OUTSTANDING Team Work Videos Sir Cheers 🍻🍻
Good evening Sir. I have 2 sets of control levers and I thought about straightening one set a little but I find that I like the curved ones. For someone a little taller straight control levers would be better. Have a great week!
The seat will make you life easier when doing a job with the backhoe 👍🏻. You got lucky finding the seat 👍🏻. Have a great week Paul 👍🏻🙋🏼♂️🙂🇨🇦
It has made it a lot easier Luc. I was lucky to have seen the seat on market place and I got it at a awesome price. You too, have a great week!
The mosquitoes would drive me crazy.
The mosquitoes are only half as bad as the deer files that we get. Thanks for watching and have a great evening!
Good morning Paul, very nice modification. I can see that this will be so much more convenient. Easy install and it looks like it was done at the factory. There is not a lot of space between the seat and the controls on the backhoe our B2601, similar to what you now have. A habit I have adopted is when getting on or off the seat I put my arm across my belly to prevent my clothes from catching the control levers. I enjoyed the video very much. Have a great week, Ben 👋😎👍
Good afternoon Ben. Thank you kindly. Adding the seat most certainly tightened up the amount of space to operate the control levers. It was a nice easy install. Great tip to prevent clothes from catching on the control levers. Have a super evening!
That's great Paul, 16th like 🙂. Sure takes a lot of the hassle out of using the backhoe, I liked your advice on making the seat taller, I did that on my side-by-side simply using four 2-in electrical conduit couplers that made a nice little metal sandwich and then I put longer bolts in, that would probably work well for this application too. Have a blessed day
It has been a lot less of a hassle not having to flip the tractor seat around anymore. When setting the seat in the taller position the shorter straight control lever are needed since the curved ones like I have will be too close to your knees. Have a great evening Jeff!
Would 2 longer bolts going all the way across work better than 4 short bolts. Something to think about. The Seat positioning works great for you Paul! Happy digging!
Thanks Mr Gary. I think that 2 longer bolts would work equally as well as the 4 shorter bolts. Although, it would be quicker to fasten just 2 bolts. Have a super Sunday!
Hi Paul. I have the same seat on my BX23S. A second seat seems like a great idea! Will it work for me?
Hi Mr Gary. I would say that a second seat on a BX would not work since the operating platform is not be large enough.
👍👍👍 It's always good to make your life easier
You got that right! Have a fantastic evening!
That's just as slick as you can be Paul! Unfortunately there just isn't the room on my tiny BX.
I have the BX23S….will this work?
@@gbltheolechurch5acrehomestead unfortunately I don’t believe we have enough room on our tractors for this.
It has been such a game changer not having to rotate the tractor seat anymore. Yeah unfortunately the BX backhoe operating platform is just a little too small to have a seat. Have a great evening Brian!
Good evening. Nice addition. Should make things much more efficient.
Good evening Tod. Thanks, it most certainly has been more efficient not having to swivel the seat. Take care!
How's she goin'? What a difference it's going to make having that jump seat for the hoe. So simple yet so beneficial too eh!! Thanks for showing this Paul. Take 'er easy!!
That was a big hole left by the stump! It always amazes me what a compact tractor can do! It sure looks great with the stump gone. I figured you would need more soil to backfill that hole, but it looks like you shouldn't need too much more to level it better. Take care
Removing the stump did leave a pretty big crater. What a compact tractor can do is definitely impressive. I thought that I would need a lot more dirt to level out the ground as well. Have a great day John!

Doesn't need walls or a roof. Cover in plastic, and it turns into a wood dryer. A couple week in there, then stack outside, rinse repeat. You'll be able to season wood really fast

Good morning Ben and thank you. I wonder the same thing. Having a tractor is a game changer. You too, have a great weekend!

Nice work Paul! Stick a fork in that one 🤠👍
Thanks Sam. Have a super weekend!
Wow big job Paul! Nice to see the new backhoe put to some good use. I love that setup! Nice to wash everything off before cutting to save the chains. Thanks for this. Cheers, and have a good weekend.
Thank you Mike. I have hundreds of hours of work for the backhoe and I just love operating it. Washing off the sand sure helped the chains last longer. You too, have a great weekend!
Paul.....that was strength training and cardio combined! Just a beautiful result!👏
Thank you John. It was a good workout for both the Kubota and myself. Have a superb weekend!
Looks good Paul! Bit more fill and some grass and clover seed and you’ll never know it was there. Just a couple more to go! Have a good weekend!
Thank you Brian. Once I can get to my pile of fill I will shall level out the area a little better. I will just let the ground green up naturally, no seeding. Have a fantastic weekend!
These little Kubota tractors are sure hard to beat, aren’t they Paul?
They are great Gary!
Good morning Paul. Trying to get caught up with my videos this morning. I think from the looks of it, you have fallen in love with that backhoe! The only reason that I don’t have one is that my neighbor has a Case 4wd backhoe and only charges me $50 / hr for both him and machine. He is a really good operator. He has done all my tiling.
Good morning Gary. I do love the backhoe. It has seen and will continue to see a lot of work. You are getting a great deal from you neighbor. Have a fantastic weekend!

It is so big, such a great and fascinating work
Thank you. Have a great day!
The area of the circumference of a log is pi R squared. So if your log is 2' in diameter, it has a radius of 1'. Pi (1)squared is 3.14 sq ft. Now make your log a 3 dimensional cylinder 1 foot long. Just multiply 3.14 squared by 1. Now you have 3.14 cubic feet. Find a chart on the internet which gives the density of the wood you are dealing with. Poplar is said to be 22-31lb per cubic foot. And so your 1' long cylinder of poplar with a radius of 1' weight approximately 68-96 lbs, and an 8' log could weigh as much as 760 lbs.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Have a great day!
Hello Paul! You won!!! That was a big job but with some hard work and some help from your tractor, you did it. Take care.
Hello John. I did. It was a lot of work, but it was enjoyable. You too, take care!
Paul you have a really nice setup there. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mike. I appreciate you stopping by. Have a super day!
@@JelenOutDoors 👍
Paul.... This has truly been a study of planning, execution, and diligence! Exceedingly well done!
Thank you kindly John. It was a task that I enjoyed. Have a great week!
Right after high school, I was in swimming pool excavation for a few years. I rememver this one dig had the stump of a 60 year old pecan tree to remove. This stump was around 3 feet wide. The excavator we used to dig the pools had a 2 yard bucket. We had to use a rock ripper to take out that stump. It took longe to remove the stump than to dig the pool. That stump and all its roots filled two dump trucks full.
From your experience you know the effort it takes to get big a stump with large roots out. That is a lot of stump and roots to fill 2 dump trucks. Thanks for sharing. An excavator would have been a better piece of equipment to use than my backhoe. It also had taken more effort and time for me to remove the stump than it did digging around it. Have a great week!
I have to hand it to you, you must be one of the most tenacious dedicated patient people I've ever seen. Great job on that stump.
Thanks. I do have a lot of determination and love a good challenge. Have a super week!
Wrong! Firstly you must have a ridge cut regarding desired angle/pitch. Then if you want to apply this method, you have to temporarily connect it to the ridge with an offset by the same thickness of the wood block you are using here, then you can mark and cut, it would fit perfectly. If you don’t do, unless you cut the ridge side exactly same way (not a good idea, it will make the rafter weak and the wood will crack from there under force), you will end up with different incline and have gaps at both sides. Those gaps can be dramatic regarding how deep you cut the birds mouth, because you simply decreasing the inclination angle with that cut.
The way I have done it is correct in relation to the way the top is done. Here is the link for the top. czcams.com/users/shortspRlzk0hAS7I Have a great day!
How's she goin'? Wow, that's a big stump and it gave you a pretty good fight, but you mastered it in the end. Nice idea to use the saw to quarter the stump and break in pieces. A lot of work eh. Nice job though. Take 'er easy!!
It's going good Mike. Thanks. It was a lot of work and I really enjoyed the challenge. I had to break up the stump into sections as it was too large and too heavy for my backhoe and tractor to handle in one piece. Have a super week!
Hopefully you're enjoying your new backhoe by now! If you don't mind me asking, how much did the subframe kit run you?
I am really enjoying the backhoe, thanks. I don't recall the exact cost, but it was around $1600 Canadian. In the US it is listed at $1256.70 on the Messick's website. Here is the link www.messicks.com/parts/BH4966 Have a great week.

🚜🚜🚜I don’t think my “Clementine” will be powerful enough to do this kind of work…Clementine is our BX23s Kubota. Well Done Paul!
Thank you Mr. Garry. The BX is pretty powerful, just may take a little longer to do the job. Take care and have a fabulous Sunday!
What a monster! My wife was laughing at me as I was coaxing the stump along while I was watching the video. Today I watched a coyote doing something in a field I was raking in that I’ve never seen before. I’ll have a video out on that soon. Enjoy the rest of your weekend my friend!
By the way, your water system was a great piece of equipment to have for that job. Very nice!
It was a good size stump. Lol, my wife would do the same if it was me. Looking forward to seeing the coyote. You too, enjoy the rest of the weekend!
