Snow Recovery on Wolf Creek Pass
This Stranded motorist was stuck on a snowmobile trail. This road is closed to traffic other than snow machines during the winter months and early springtime. But this truck ended up stuck on the snowy road and needed to be rescued on a Sunday afternoon. Goobsfabshop came to the rescue with his Chevrolet Tracker equipped with TRAX. It did the trick and got the truck down the mountain.

Sometimes it's cheaper to hire a real operator than try it yourself. I've never got an excavator into a spot it wouldn't get itself out of. That one doesn't look real bad compared to what I've been into. I read you charged nothing which is nice of you.
What a treat to see an older fella just shooting some ish with a person about age. God bless this matured gentleman and many more years of life.
And mentally sharp!
Too funny! God bless all our 90+ seniors. Blessings to all out there! ❤❤❤
How cool! Congrats.
You should consider putting another set of trailer jacks at the front end of the bed. Very cool build. The classic truck you hinted at: did you mean you were thinking of putting the rotator on that bed? That would be cool but i think you should consider a rollback. Those two would be an awesome team together
@000622477 Yes, I am thinking of turning the old truck into a wrecker. (Not my next project though!) My rotator is completely removable because it sits on a fifth-wheel hitch. I can convert it from a wrecker to a flatbed that can tow a fifth-wheel trailer. I just have to release the "quick-release" and lift the wrecker boom off from the truck and since it is all made out of aluminum, it's not very heavy. I could build a flatbed out of the old truck and move my rotating wrecker assembly over to the old truck and have it rigged up in a short amount of time.
@@Goobsfabshop that's such a good idea would you consider selling a prefabbed book assembly that others could use on a fourth wheel?
@@000622477 My plan is to build a wrecker boom that would fit on any flatbed truck with a fifth-wheel hitch and sell them as an assembly. This is my first one!
What did you use for the slew/ rotator bearing?
@EmpireofRust The fifth-wheel pin with a quick-release machined hub that I fabricated. The rotator can be removed to be able to use the fifth-wheel hitch to pull a fifth-wheel trailer when necessary.
@@Goobsfabshopthat's brilliant
@@000622477 Thank you! That's why I named my channel goobsfabshop. I have been known in my small town since I was 6 years old as goober...(Goob) and I love to fabricate amazing things.
Nice, what sort of weight can that lift?
I'm not sure. If you are asking about the wrecker, it can tow a small semi truck. If you are asking about the excavator, it belongs to a customer so I don't know. He was just attempting to clean out mud of a pond. The mud doesn't weigh much.
Utards... a window licking special bunch...
A cave video with no comments, let’s fix that! Hope everyone had fun! And I’m proud of the little girl with her helmet!
That guy is a fool. All he had to do was turn the trackhoe around and drive out the other side which had 60 feet of low grade uphill. Obviously, the guy making this video won't tell him because he wants to get paid which means he needs to use the tow truck to winch him out the hard way. Society is so f@ked, ha, ha. 😂😂😂
@dammitbobby283 We didn't bill this customer for pulling him out of the mud. NO MONEY EXCHANGED!!! Our customer stated that previous to pulling his excavator into the irrigation pond he and the property owner walked out on the irrigation pond and it felt very solid, but when he pulled his machine into it, he said it was as though there was no bottom; he started sinking and kept sinking. There was no way to drive out the other side...too muddy. They had tried unsuccessfully to pull it out with a big front end loader before calling us. The owner of the machine and the land owner helped with the recovery.
What's the treasure?
The treasure is a Copper "Moab" 50th anniversary coin. The prize is a Silver "Moab" 50th anniversary coin.
Great job getting that out without damaging it. I'm sure the owners were happy. Keep up the good work. Entertaining videos
i did not know abt that
I don't understand why they didn't use the hoe to help push it out. Seemed like they were padding the bill for hourly rate
Guess so
@albertcyphers1532 We didn't charge anything for the recovery. They had already unsuccessfully attempted to pull the excavator out of the hole before calling us.
OK, I will "fall" for it and ANSWER your (title) question.. Q/- How do Tire Chains in perform in sand? A/- sorry - too many INNS spoil the brew. You'd be better off using "Double Dutch" the entire way through - such as: Tire - (perform) How do "How do Chains" in sand Tire - perform in sand, Chains?
good seeing you guys great video
Would love to see tire chains on all 4 tho… interesting that paddles work and chains don’t… science!
blad tires are actually best on sand the more tread you have the worse it is thats why paddle tires literally only have paddles but are smooth otherwise
I live in an area where there's lots of snow every winter. My intuition said this would work in sand. My intuition was wrong. That was so much worse.
You need like some sort of floatation type tire with the good balance of not too aggressive tread from what I've learned
Well that's terrifying 😅 glad it went so smoothly.
Nice rig just wouldn't have wasted trip to offroad games...looks like a joke this year ! Either way im subbed!👍 wanna see it work
Drop air pressure to 8 and never look back
Looks like the chains give too much traction and let the wheels dig like no ones business. It just scoops the sand out from under you
Any decent quality kinetic rope will do this. I have a couple and never had a problem with them. I do have a Yankum rope, BTW. Haven't used it yet, though.
We have a towing business and use it all of the time when pulling out people from being stuck in the sand and mud. In our experience it has performed better than a regular tow rope. It's got a bit more Yank-um!
"The unique feature of a Yankum Rope is that it allows stretch which helps reduce or eliminate the sudden shock felt during vehicle recovery." from a Google search. And it's really true. Watch our other you tube video "Snow Recovery @Yankum Ropes." czcams.com/video/0rUuJsPuELs/video.html
@@Goobsfabshop Yep, kinetic recovery ropes will stretch like that. They have been around for a while. The first one I bought was Smittybuilt, which did the job. The stored energy sure beats rigid tow straps for small to medium jobs. Of course, any nylon tow strap will stretch 15% to 20% or so they say.
In preparation to compete in Matts Off-Road Games at Sand Hollow, we decided to test a different method of traveling through sand. This group has played at the sand dunes a lot. At the sand dunes, all of the buggies run paddle tires, so we thought if paddle tires work on buggies, why not run tire chains. We couldn’t find any information on the internet about using tire chains to travel in sandy conditions. We decided to perform some tests to discover if tire chains would actually work in sand. First we run through the sand in 2-wheel drive, then in 4-wheel drive to get out of the stuck place, then we run through with tire chains. Watch to see what our conclusion is. Just a note: We used a “Yankup Rope” to pull out our stuck truck.
Yankup Ropes are GOOD!!!!
So cool! Looks like a fancy rig.
Thanks!
