Festool Domino Accessory Demo : MultiFence & OffsetShims from RAB Tools | DF500 & DF700 Compatible
The DF-MultiFence came out of the frustration I had when I wanted to make flush joints on the edge of my material. Some might say I don't use my DF500 correctly and to that I say...move a long. Now I looked at the actual Festool Domino Support and thought to myself...if this only had had slots. A sketch later and a few rounds of R&D and here we are. I know some might think this is "essentially useless" but I am a big fan of using this when making flush joints at the edge of my material. The Shims were NOT my idea. My friend Michael, link to his channel is below, shared that idea with me and I ran with it. He wanted an easier way to make offsets on his cabinets. I think both work together well and they are very easy to use.

In this videoâŠIâll be demoing our RAB DF-MultiFence on my Festool Domino in the hopes of showing you how easy our product is to use when you want to make perfectly flush joints on the ends of your panels. Iâll also be showing you our DF-OffsetShims in action as wellâŠjust in case you want to do a reveal on a cabinet or an apron on a table but before we get to that I would like to thank you for stopping by to watch this video and if youâre new to the channel and liked what you saw here please be sure to hit that like and subscribe button before you go. So with that being saidâŠ.letâs begin.
The DF-MultiFence is a sliding support for Festool Domino that attaches to the base of your DF500 or 700 with the included knobs. I know it looks similar the actual Festool Domino Support but as you can see theirs is fixedâŠwhere ours can adjust to accommodate material up to an 1-1/2â thick but for this demo Iâll be using a single piece of the (3/4)â plywood I typically use in my projects and yes I made sure both surfaces were clean and free from debris before attaching and locking in the MultiFence to my DF500.
As you can seeâŠthe MutliFence is easy to use and itâs large window makes lining up your marks a breeze. With the mortises cut letâs put the both pieces together and see how flush the joint really is or isnât. Now as I run my finger over the jointâŠthe only noticeable difference I feel is where the smoothness of the veneer meets theâŠI guess Iâll say the fuzziness or fibers, of the exposed plywood edge. I do not feel a lip or any noticeable ledge where the parts meet. Hopefully the following scenes will illustrate just how square and flush the joint really is.
With the flush joint completeâŠletâs move onto the offset shims. First I need to swap knobs to accommodate the thickness of the shims. I used 2 16th inch shims and one 8th inch shim. In theoryâŠthat should give me a quarter inch offset. Letâs see what happens.
Now I typically use .5mm lead for my layout lines but decided to used .7mm lead so it shows up better on camera. So you can see some lead peaking out but Iâll use my Woodpeckers Mini Double Square and my iGaging calipers to show you how close to a quarter inch offset I have using shims made on a 3D printer.
I hope I showed you how easy the MultiFence was to use at making flush joints at the edge of your work piece. I know some might prefer to use the flip fence on the Domino and the Domino support for making joints like that and thatâs ok. Iâm not going to question a workflow that youâre comfortable with. Now the OffsetShims. I know my offset was a little bit more than a quarter of an inch but the error was around 2 hundredths of a mm plus I used 3 shims that added up to a quarter inch offset as opposed to using the single (1/4)â. So I think thatâs pretty acceptable and not too shabby for melted plastic. Now if you have any questions about the MultiFence or OffsetShims or anything we have listed in our Etsy storeâŠplease leave those questions or comments down below and Iâll do maybes to answer them right away. Iâd like to thank you for watching and until next timeâŠtake care and have a good one.

they should sell it wihtout the screen protector, gives off too much glare.
Yep I agree with 100%
Unfortunately, I found your video after I tried to install my new Pony pipe clamps on to my new pipe. I was able to install the crank end without problem but the other end got jamb on the end of the pipe and I cant remove it or fully install (seat) it. Any suggestions. BTW, great video. Wish I had found it before I tried putting it together with the pipe!!
Are you talking about the metal part that goes on the end? Itâs silverâŠlooks like a key ring but with more meat? If soâŠIâve had that issue too. I grabbed a piece of rubber and wrapped the silver rings in electrical tape for more grip. Used the rubber and opened it like a jarâŠif that makes sense.
@@CPBuilds Hi Chris, thanks for the quick response. No not the spring, the other sliding part of the pipe clamp, I will refer to it as the tail-piece for lack of a proper name. Not sure what its called. I couldnt get it off the pipe but eventually I was able to hammer it on to the pipe, but its so tight that I can barely slide it back and forth on the pipe. Its a 1/2â pipe clamp on a 1/2â black pipe that I cleaned first, and wiped on some WD40 on it, and I can barely move the tail piece back and forth. I have used pipe clamps before and never had this kind of problem sliding the tail-piece back and forth. The front part went on with no problem, and I installed a second one on the other half of the 10â pipe and it went on reasonably well, but not as loose as what I have seen with previous pipe clamps. Unless Im doing something wrong, I think these two units are defective (from Amazon). Any thought/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
@@artwhelan13 damnâŠ. Sounds like there might be too much paint on that part. It should slide with easy. Iâve never had that get hung up on a pipe. Thatâs interesting. Thatâs the only thing I could think it would be or the casting wasnât right and the hole is just too small. Regardless that should slide with no issues. Iâd reach out to Pony. They may send you a new set. Sounds like itâs a quality issue.
@@CPBuilds I watched a Poly video and there is no comparison between how he slid the tail-piece on and the problem Im having. It would take many coats of paint to even come close to being this tight. Also, there is so little play in the clamping mechanism that I cant really release the tail-piece to move it. From what I understand, they should still move freely in one direction but need to compress the clamping mechanism to move it in the opposite direction. Mine dont move in either direction. I guess I will have to return them if there is nothing I can do at my end to make them work. Thanks for getting back to me.
@@CPBuilds hi Chris. So I decided to get creative and did a few things to make the tail-piece work on my 1/2â pipe. First I used an emery cloth to sand off all of the paint on the pipe, cleaned the pipe and applied a light coat of WD40 all over the pipe. Then I removed, one-by-one, each of the silver clamping blocks and used my Dremel to grind off a thin layer of steel from the inner circle. Tested it along the way until I had a smoother fit on the pipe then reassembled the tail-piece. It mounted on the pipe much easier than before, and I was able to slide it up and down the pipe without it binding. Then I tested it by clamping a board between the two clamping pieces and it held it real tight. Repeated these steps with the second set but they required less sanding and grinding. So after about two hours of labour on both pipes, I now have two working sets of pipe clamps. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.
Mitutoyo or No Go.
I hear ya. I love my iGaging still and my Harbor Freight ones are still super accurate. I can live with them for my needs. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you, it was helpful
Good to hear đđ» thanks for the comment.
Didnât know pony sells just the screws as I didnât know the clutch metal pieces came out!
Glad you found the video helpful! Thanks for the comments.
Was just gonna say! Heâs using that wire brush in a drill press! (Which I donât have). But can use my polisher motor.
Beautiful job! Was just researching a lubricant for the threads on the business end and saw you use WD-40 so thatâs why Iâll use!
I used your video and made my own version !!!!! they are 200 euro in Ireland and 126 sterling in rhe UK way too muchfor what they are thanksfor the video !!!!!!
Great Idea!!! Thanks
Still works great in 2024 with the few manufacturers who insist on putting one of these on their phone cases. Thanks for providing this fantastic tip!
My fiance and I are going to be getting the Iblason case and I have seen the main complaint being the adhesive finger spot along with the screen protector getting nicks and having issues over time. I love sup case and saying Iblason is im guessing a sister brand I wanted to get it since I love supcases (have one on my current phone) just right now pixel 8pro only comes in black. That said we are getting a 9H screen protector for camera and the screen we dont need the plastic so this is perfect!
Nice. I love their glass screen protectors. One of the best Iâve found. Glad you found this video helpful. Thanks for the comment.
I was just about to hit the "buy it now" button on some (you know the brand) bench thingies, but went playing on CZcams first, and stumbled across this video. A much nicer solution to the problem, and literally half the price of the branded versions! Thanks for a great idea!
Not a problem. I used them the other day. Still holding up well with a lot of use. Canât beat the price. Thanks for watching and the comment. Much appreciated.
Will it work itâs attached to silicone part and not a plastic piece? I donât want to mess with the case
Oh that I donât know. I donât have one to test to find out for ya either. Sorry about that.
@@CPBuilds the screen protector was also between a gap made to make it more durable and less likely to come off
Hi Peter parfitt has a youtube on how to get a 90 degree cut, fine tuning a festool saw.
This one is an older model where it doesnât have those screws to adjust. Thatâs why I suggested that the owner drill and tap a few holes to add them so he could adjust it easier.
I donât know why this video is necessary
I feel the same way about your comment.
Where/how were you able to get a new spring?
Went to my local Ace on day, which I hate going to, and found an older style Pony clamp in the package caked with dust. Looked at it and saw it was the spring I needed. Not the story you wanted to hear but itâs the story you needed to hear.
Thanks (I think) lol. Actually, I might figure out a way to mimic the original if I can get more info. I actually have the original (at least I guess it is), but it is corroded and a bit too pliable. For all I know, part of it may be gone. Whatever you can provide would be helpful, such as thickness of wire used, length of wire- or maybe easier- how many rounds/circles make up the spring. The housing casting of mine has a small protrusion (stop?) added to the embossed inner rim of the circular opening on the outer face. However, I can't see how to install the spring one end of it abuts that little whatchamacallit. So knowing the proper orientation of the spring in the housing should also help. I realize that you may not be able to answer all of this, but . . . Seriously - thanks. Bob @@CPBuilds
I saw some people using similar solution, but with kitchen salt (NaCl), citric acid and hydrogen peroxide (low concentration). All of these are separately fine to touch with our skin, but what such anti-rust mix of them?
No idea on that one. I never had any issues using citric acid though. I just stick with that. Works perfectly and as it should with great results.
Ooh! Just woke up that guitar was great. I liked your methods of restoration. Are there other ways to paint the letters?.. Thanks again
Iâm sure you could throw some paint on the tile and wipe it off. May get into areas you donât want though. Iâm using it like this still and have no issues seeing the markings. I very much like it still.
Ok ok ok how about tempered glass?
Never removed tempered glass from a case. Would assume it would work if it uses similar adhesive.
This guy's content is good
Thank you. Comments like that are much appreciated.
I find Citric acid is my go to product, tried all kind of products. Its not to harsh yet does a great job removing stubborn rust.
Heck ya it does. Cheap and easy. Canât beat that combo.
My dad died 12 years ago, 81yo. I have most of his tools. I needed the ruler by itself, and took the unit apart. Struggled for along time, to get it put back together! I was even fearful I might have to buy a new one⊠But knew I wasnât getting rid of Popâs square. FINALLY after many attempts, found this page. Finally got it put back together. Thank you so much for posting this. Iâm finished for today, but after watching your video, I need to come back to watch the actual refurbish. As I skipped right to taking the pin out, to get it put back together. Iâll be back so I can see what to do/use to refurbish, when I have time to do that. Again, thank you so very much. Have a blessed day! đđđ
WowâŠ.Iâm very happy to hear my video helped you out with that. Iâm glad itâs back together so you can use it. Thanks again for the kind words. Have a good one!

Even with 2 sets I donât think the lateral movement would s acceptable. One set should be included⊠and the set they include should be the fix
Agreed. Would be nice if they addressed/fixed that issue.
Just did this and it worked great đ
Nice! Glad it worked for ya đđ»
Thank you for this, Buddy.
Not a problem đđ»
Great idea on the clamp pads! And cleaning tools is always a good idea, along with light oiling. For wax, I have a can of nealy 100% carnuba wax for automobiles that I have had for years. Works great.
Yep I do the same. Works very well. Thanks for the comment.
Definitely wishlist!
It is sexy. I use mine all the time.
Once you have the MFT/3 dialed in, does it stay true? Do you periodically adjust it?
Yes it has stayed true. Only time I redo it is when I take everything off for some TLC. Takes me minutes to set back up and I do a new 5-cut test and the results have been very good. Iâm very pleased with my MFT setup.
@@CPBuilds thanks! I bought a slightly used MFT/3 yesterday. Iâm going through the alignment process.
Thanks. I was able to remove screen from otterbox fre without any issue.
Thanks. I bought these and was hoping there were videos showing the proper use.
Yep. Let me know if you have any issues or questions in regards to using them or about any of our other products.
Instead of oil-based lubes, might try dry/silicone and/or simple (candle) wax. These don't attract dust over time.
Canât believe how well this works, Thanks for making this content!!!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for the tip!
Not a problem!
That miter gauge is not even kids toy level, I was kind of surprised at how well built the sander is and then you got this janky throw away accessory.
Agreed. Itâs really a POSâŠ.the miter gauge. Sander is still going strong though.
I wipe them down, oil the clutch and paste wax the screw and rail and hot glue the pads. Just another way of doing the same thing
Does this work for a larger case like for instance, for an iPad mini six
Wouldnât see why not. If the screen is attached the same way as the other casesâŠshould work just fine.
This worked great the screen came right off. Super easy to remove thank you!
Dude, you're a such live saver. Initially I tried to apply pressure to the screen protector but the glue on the edges of it is quite strong. Then I thought about using a cutter to try to cut the screen protector around the frame but it was a bit difficult and I could see the cuts on the edges. Then I found your video, tried this out and in about 5 minutes I managed to peel off the screen protector without the slightest traces of glue or anything else. I didn't even need to use tweezers to remove the excess glue :). Thank you so much for your video!
Glad it worked for ya! Enjoy your case.
A lot of your videos appear to be about clamps. You need to do a review/comparison of the HF Bremen parallel clamps! Thanks for posting!
Brilliant. Thank you. Worked perfectly.
Good to hear! Thanks for watching and the comment.
That was super easy thanks bro
Glad it worked for ya! Thanks for watching and the comment.
I just got one of these and, like you, I love it for depth measurement but not so much for angles. Now after seeing this Iâm thinking of converting it what you did. Very practical!
For sure. I donât use it as much since I got the paolini pocket rules from Woodpeckers but it came in really handy when I did use it. Thanks for watching and the comment.
A lot of people like the smallest one the best. I got the little aluminum Delve Square, it would be interesting to compare to this or even the Incra precision layout squares
Ya I have both and love the PTS-3. I use that all the time. The PTS-6 is next but I don't use the PTS-8 a whole lot since I have the TS-12 and the SaddleSquare-12. The DelVe is a nice tool too. I have the stainless version. It sees a lot of use but more-so the larger version.
thank you
Youâre welcome đđ»
Your sons charisma is a big plus. Great video.
Thanks đ heâs a good kid. Glad you liked the video.
Worked for me today on a Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro iPad case (2018 iPad model - iPad being handed down to one of our kids and needed a more rugged case). For submersing, I used a 9x13 glass dish and used water at 85 deg C - screen protector came free in just under a minute. Perfect! Thank you so much!
Nice! Glad it worked for ya!
thnx
not a problem
I have a Starrett Combo square that has the same logo on the blade. It's very worn. It's interesting to see (more or less) what it would have looked like years ago! Nice work!
Thank you very much. I thought it turned out great. I still use it too. Very nice rule. Have a good one.
I just bought one great for my drill.
Nice! Hope you like using it. I still use it with my tape measure. Comes in really handy.
Note to self - Google "how to remove a screen protector from an iPhone case" first before using a razor blade - argh! It worked ok but not as clean. I will try this later to see if I can pick off the random pieces of plastic I couldn't reach with the razor blade.
