Complexity really is the number one thing holding rugby back. So if you had to boil the law book down to it's core components and still have it be rugby and not just league what would it look like?
Best position fly half
Jealousy in England rugby ruined a potential superstar if Cips had Farrell’s work ethic we wouldn’t need Elliott Daly to cover all the positions
Dude love your videos, wish I found your channel sooner!
cheslin kolbe
Union too slow. NRL all the way.
Lovely video mate
As an American baseball player and later coach once said "Baseball is 90% mental. The other half is physical."
That Roko step is still the best I've ever seen
Watching Ireland play the influence of RL is obvious. The handling and passing skills of all the Irish players is one reason for their success.Fancy when people compare unIon to league like chess to draughts. Farrel a top 'draughts' player and a reasonable 'chess 'player, only took up the game at 31,is probably the best 'chess' coach in the world.Union trying to assert intellectual superiority whereas the rules of union are so opaque that commentators are baffled by them and they are dependent on refs interpretation. Scrums and mauls are simply communal sumo wrestling!
😢k😊😊
This is the following reasons rugby will never be as popular as football in my opinion: #1 Gore While rugby isn't violent like boxing & wrestling, it is still a gorey sport compared to football. Obviously players get injuries in football but it is rare to see players be seen poring with blood, though Terry Butcher was an infamous example. You will see more players with nasty injuries in Rugby than in football which can be off-putting. #2 Too complicated While rugby isn't rocket science, the sport can be difficult to understand. Obviously the object of the game is easy enough to understand (scoring the most tries) but that's where the simplicity ends. Unlike football the gameplay isn't free flowing. The 'movement' stops with things like scrimmages and rucks. And the positions can be hard to understand like the roles of hookers, props etc. Unlike in football where all players bar the goalkeeper all pretty much have the same sort of skills like heading and shooting etc, the positions have their own unique skills and restrictions. For example hookers 'hook' the ball during rucks and the forwards chiefly take part in them and the backs do most of the running. #3 Rich sport While it's a myth rugby is a 'posh sport' as like other sports, anyone can can enjoy rugby. In fact many people who like football also follow rugby. However it is true that rugby is enjoyed more by the middle to upper class folk. For example most rugby players and fans have been to a private school instead of a normal school. And many rich celebrities such as JK Rowling & Ian Rankin enjoy the rugby. So while obviously average people also enjoy the sport, it is very popular with the richer people. #4 Limited countries Unlike football which is played almost everywhere, rugby is mostly glued to a portion of countries especially the commonwealth though there are others like France & Italy. Plus only a few countries or counties have rugby as the no.1 sport. For example rugby is the no.1 sport in New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji, Ireland & Wales. In others like Scotland, England, France, Italy & Argentina rugby is relegated to the second most popular sport though cricket is also popular in England. Similarly only certain areas in those countries is rugby more popular than football. For example Gloucester, Rugby where the sport was invented, Galashiels & southern France are where rugby is most popular. #5 Lack of spot light While Rugby is popular, it will never overtake football when it comes to world wide attention. For example because football is so popular, sports pages in the papers as well as internet and tv news mostly cover it. Rugby only gets attention every now and then. The FIFA World Cup attracts almost half of the world population while the rugby edition only gets about 500 million viewers.
Rugby League is my game (Working Class Northern Englishman). I do love Rugby Union too however its a shame that the people involved in the game are such a***holes. And i mean anyone from fans, players and administrators. They say Rugby Union is a game for everyone repeatedly yet in practice its a game for the self proclaimed "elite" and they consistently alienate those from working class backgrounds/different races.
Best centre run bundi Aki and tuilagi (probably butches it) is a prime example of powerful 12
great video, really informative!
I play on the wing
Joe Simmonds is your man!!!

8:40 tennis is like this in the netherlands, on a competition game you spend hours with your opponents and the home team prepares either lunch or diner, afterwards you often drink beers. Comming from footbal this was so nice.
Maybe make the rugby field bigger & wider to have more space for players to do their thing.
The 6 nations needs to carry on, but go back to being the home nations for the sake of tradition. Then a European tournament needs to be created, a little like the european championship in football, if about half a century late. The home nations will compete in that too, of course. And other regions are free to host their own sub tournaments like the home nations. And since I'm daydreaming about things that will never happen, I'd love a UK team in European and World Cup tournaments (Lions minus Ireland, except players eligible for Northern Ireland of course). And reunite the codes while we're about it!
The union-league split was the killer.
I couldn't understand why I performed exceptionally at training, but I was the worst performer on matchdays, hopefully, this video is going to help me.
Rugby League were 100% in the right, and that was proven when union eventually went pro. Maybe they should have reunited then. But I have to say I prefer the union game.
This is great but I think the Shaq example is a little unfair- he had a 10 year stretch where his lowest average season PPG was 26.2, and it took until his 15th season before he ever dropped below 20, while also being effective on defense and rebounding.
Rugby has its own meaning! Sort your head out you absolute muppet!
Oh do 1 you mong
In New Zealand we have a 4 tier system of provincial rugby. The top 2 tiers compete in the NPC and are the only teams that feed the professional NZ Super Rugby teams with new players. Being a player in the bottom 2 tiers is pointless because you have no chance to be an All Black. Im in a 4th tier province so I gave up 10 years ago lol.
After the 96-17 roasting from the All Blacks, the 2nd highest score in history, I dont know how to be nice about it. They were dreadful.
I grew up with rugby league in Sydney. It's the game I prefer. I also like union, but I wish there were less penalties. I agree with many of the comments on this page about the Aussie NRL league competition being the premier 'rugby' tournament in the world. I know union is played in more countries, but that's due to its long history of amateurism. League is a professional game which has prospered in places which have the financial depth to make it work. Excellent video, by the way. I learned some things I didn't know. As per your last comment...if the laws of union were as simple to understand as league...then union would start to look more like league, I suppose.
I love to play flanker or centre 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Love the channel We actually need this in the sport Thanks guys
So who is the best back three?
Does the 13 need me or does the fullback need me 😂 😂😂
I love both forms of Rugby. I wish union fans would stop being such asses and give League a try. I don't even know why this is such a huge argument anymore. We're in the 2020's. Not the 1870's or 60's I don't know. I was a League fan before I was a Union fan but that didn't stop me from learning more about Union.
I use to love League I grew up watching it N wouldn't miss a game of Origin or the broncos playing but when my brain developed with age I also developed an acquired taste for a more complex form of rugby. Now I find league super boring and lame and brainless to watch. Rugby Union is this best rugby and should be the only rugby played in the world. Sorry if i offended any League fans but it's true once you understand half the rules of Union you will realise how lame League is and how much better and competitive Union is.
Maybe Make game like rugby bot beetween 7 an 10 players, simple rules smaller field.....
Or as they call them in NZ, Sintiz.
re: 13... Odd how little reference you make to O'Driscoll. And no mention of Conrad Smith.
Sgarbi for Benetton is another who played centre/back row
I think you should change the tipe of content your making I enjoy your vidoes but Your recent videos dont cover topics i would like to see maybe you should try covering more recent topics like rule changes or doing more analysis videos
‘Moral code’/‘rugby values’, the perception you have is so far removed to the reality of what RU has/does stands for, the worst of any sport around the world. That will always be its problem & there is nothing that can change that.
I wanted to finish this video, but was distracted by the crackling audio :/
Ma'a Nonu💪
You said BRetallick but you meant Victor Matfield.
My son now plays outside centre. I never understood this position as a number 8 but hopefully this will shed some light!
The simple answer is amateurism. American football and rugby were neck and neck in the USA during the late 19th century, but the money was in the former, so lots of rugby players switched to American football which became very popular.
is it really a power shift when you have twice the player numbers but still have to pillage the Southern hemisphere to have decent teams
