I first heard this song soon after my son was born, in 1992 on KPIG Radio out of Freedom, California. Loved it instantly and have it on several "saved" lists. (Would like it played at my wake when the time comes.) I, like other commenters here, have never found the published lyrics, but I think Lucarius did a pretty good job of writing them down, as heard. Maura O'Connell's voice and style were just the right combination with the arrangement to carry this one all the way. It never got a lot of play on the mainstream radio stations, but KPIG really did it justice. Well done, Lucarius.

So lovely to hear a piece played straight without the fanciful warbling and screeching additions of most modern songs. Just beautiful melody, gracefully played as it was written, touching the heart.

My Scottish/Irish Grandmother used to play music exactly like this. I was adopted, Eastern European descent. But because of her beautiful piano music, I got into Celtic music for over 25 years. This music tips my heart up! She played Raglan Road, and The Last Rose of Summer. It was the twin of emotion of this piece. This made my day, I want to learn this piece. Th U.

And I saw , Aly Bain, With his fiddle in the group, His fiddle Sighs, Crys, It leads Napoleon's Retreat. Then there's the fiend for his dope, And a drunkard his whine, But who pity's the pore Miner, way down in the mine, Its as dark as the dungeon, Damp as the dew, Pity the pore Miner,, Way down in the mine, He has only one blessing, If he can walk out the portal at the end of each day. It's as dark as the dungeon, Lord, Damp as the dew, The dangers are many, And pleasures but few.
