Time to sit it to the side of the road for trash pick up
Friction shifters are a joy. You can fit them on most cheap derailleurs in my experience. Going beyond 9-ish speed might be tough. 700c rims will be slightly smaller, so you might need a set of brakes that can fit the pads low enough, looking at what you have I dunno if it'll work, unclear. Love getting and working on old bikes, lots of fun to be had. One thing I will recommend that you just get a decent pair of: pedals. Those old styles will make you enjoy riding your bike a lot less unless you're wearing boots or some shit lol
It just needs bath and lube. Good to go.
A good restoration will make that look and feel amazing. Even as a gravel bike it is comfortable.
80s Japanese road bikes are nice! Get some nice soft tape. I would lubricate the cables, but you don't need to replace them necessarily unless they are completely sticking. If the wheels are 27" you can swap them out for 700c most likely. You can find tires, derailers, and 5 speed freewheels online.
I have a 1981 MIYATA Pro with aero components and Suntour Superb drop outs, front and rear derailer, bar ends and brakes. . Chromed Cinelli crown style front forks Bought it new in 82. Ride it often. I also have a 1983 Italian SOMEC. Top of the line, pantographed. All Campy. Just now giving it a refurb.
If you change wheels you'll be fine to keep it friction it's a "dumb" system so it doesn't care what caset is on there because you are doing the indexing
I bet it's light as hell , those Poseidon's are cheap right now you should get one , SE Michigan check-in 💪🏼🇺🇸
What's a new road bike sell for today? You got a good deal there. A little work and that bike will serve you well. I think that lugged steel frame will outlast those carbon fiber beauties sold in the show room today.
Good ones around 1k
@@JFacko Or much more. I just took a look at the Specialized road bike site. A thousand is their bottom end. Pretty much the same at Trek. They still sell a bike called Fuji, but they don't seem like they were back in the day like yours.
@@daniellarson3068 unfortunately they are not made in Japan anymore so pretty much crap now
Dude was singing some Fleetwood Mac. Nice!
That is a real jem.
That seat is probably fine. Had a few like this. Definetly not formated to anyone's behind. There are definitely modern more comfortable ones though. Those friction shifters should work with any similar derailure. That is why I love friction shifters. They just work.
Yeah they are amazing
that’s what you tell yourself to make yourself feel better lmaooo i’m dead
Co.plsint channel 😂😂
TailHappyTV does ebike reviews with road tests, mileage, speed, and battery life.
This is a good bike for a beginner. You can always upgrade the components. And upgrading is the fun part. I upgrade all my bikes and find tune all of them.
Clean it up! Lookin forward to the resto vid
I got you
Fix that thing up! Looks like a project I would watch for sure
just front brakes is not safe. In an emergency you´ll go over the front. Or your Mum will.
My brakes are adjusted so they don't lock the wheel it's called tuning your bike for you
I’m literally right now at Walmart doing a curb side pick up of this bike. I think your video is legit. I ride mountain bikes and love tinkering with them, so yea, this looks like a good bike for me. Before committing some serious money to a gravel bike I want to make sure I try it first. And $248 is a good entry point.
Specialized roll 2.0 $650 on sale , most comfortable bike Ive ever sat on
Mine gets delivered today. My goal is to upgrade it so much it will be absurd. Carbon Everything 😂
You cant find a company that sells a frame for $250. You sell all the parts and keep the frame you could get at least $100 for the parts (low ball could probably get $250). You could just upgrade the frame. This is a great deal for a new bike. Used bikes would be the next best option. The gearing is road gearing not mountain bike.
The frame ain't nothing special and the bike aint a good deal if the first thing you say is upgrade it and sell the parts also you must never been on a road bike because those are not road bike gear ratios
Enjoying these ride along video with the commentary
Thanks
I think the Ozark was a good platform but I could see it being too much to upgrade. Brifters, specifically if you wanted a good hydraulic set, woulda been nuts. Plus derailleurs and calipers.
very cool! The bike you have is the bike you need. Cool video.
im 5'8 - 5'9 would you recommend the small or medium? I was debating between the two but medium is out of stock in my area
I dunno if you ride with pants but you can buy shoe booties/rain covers. They do a great job keeping feet dry.
😂😂😂 I'm up here near Romeo , that storm was brutal , we got hail and rain
I hate wrapping handlebars. I let my lbs do it 😅 I love seeing a good steel frame being used. Commuter bikes IS my shit! Theres so much personality in them. I've been carless for 6 years now and been a full time bike commuter. I love hearing how people get into cycling cause its never the same story. Follow and a like 👍 👌 Keep on keeping on ✌️
I drank the kool aide. I bought one. But you have forsaken your fan base and returned the G1. I’m unsubscribing. 🤪 I think it’s really cool that a regular guy is able to share his adventures on one of these. What worked and what didn’t without any sponsorship pressures. The suspension fork swap was pretty cool. That you were able to return the bike after several videos and tweaking on the bike is pretty awesome too. It’s too soon to call, but in the short term I’m enjoying my G1 and pleased with my purchase. Looking forward to your next adventure, whichever bike it happens to be. 👍😎
DAWES, Pronounced “Doors”.
Brotha, eh…. What’s that, brotha? Stop buying Walmart bikes.
Good reasoning - You didn't need the $248 Walmart bike. That is a nice looking road bike.
The pronunciation is “DAW-S”. Please pull the cables tighter on the brake levers.
Man! that shortass quill stem looks well twitchy. Is it liveley or steady?
Try soaking your bar tape in water next time before wrapping the bars.
Please watch a couple of youtube videos before you try this one. Tried it. messy and more trouble.
I’ll sell you my ozark trail G1 medium size frame 19” like new for $150.00. 🙂
150$? 😂 Man I can grab a 10 speed on Facebook for 40 bucks I'm good
@@JFacko Last summer I bought a older 26 inch Trek bicycle with a chromoly frame for $5 at a garage sale and this summer I repainted it and put my ebike kit on it! 😂
I was on the fence about the Ozark Trail but I saw too many things I wanted to change. № 1 was the weight. I've found a few road bikes that are almost 10 pounds lighter.
This bike heavy but I guess it being steel it's to be expected
Steel isn't neccessarliy heavy. Depends on the type of steel which determines how thick ot needs to be. Some Framesets are under 2000 grams including forks.
I hate that you took the G1 Explorer back! That is why I watched this channel.
Hate is crazy zesty this ain't a Ozark trail channel
@@JFacko Fair enough! I just let it be known why I watched these videos. When it comes to bike videos, I like watching about bikes I have, and the ones I am interested in owning, and classic BMX shows.
@@waktosha7378 naw I get what you mean I myself just had lots of Walmart bikes and they don't last and the 90s BMX bikes go crazy
This is how Walmart bikes go, if your gonna ride alot they're not good bikes. but if you need something cheap for a few rides a year its fine. but i predict they will raise the price of this bike because everyone's good reviews. my issue with walmart bikes is they cost to much for what they are.
Yeah they good for like one season then they become yard ornaments. And your right thier definitely going to raise the price when you can go to your local bike shop or on Facebook and get a good used bike
Didn’t know Walmart allowed used bike to be returned
14 or 90 days I heard
People there dive like they do down here in North Carolina, like shit.😆 if you want to get rid of the brake noise. Look up here on you tube how to stop disk brake squeak. It involves sandpaper and isopropyl alcohol and some paper towels. Enjoying the videos.
Definitely gotta be real aware while riding. I see you out far north, im in the rocky mountains so way different places. Either way man be safe 🙏
Mtn bike..no.but gravel and bike packing ...kick stands are awesome.
Great content
Kickstand Krew represent!
Your squeaky disc brakes sound like they might be contaminated. Try degreasing all the brake parts, and braking surfaces. If that's not possible, degrease the rotors, replace the brake pads and use sandpaper to rough up the pads and rotors before re-installing everything. Try not to touch the braking surfaces with your fingers, so they don't get contaminated with oil/grease. Once you get your brakes clean and tuned, then you can rate their performance.
JFacko bro, love your passion, you seem like a genuine cycling enthusiast. Let me help you with some advice. If your rear derailleur and shifter cable are not visibly damaged, try this. 1). Remove the rear derailleur. 2). Straighten the derailleur hanger. (Special tool required) 3). Reinstall the rear derailleur. 4). Set the high/low limits. 5) Adjust the shifter cable as necessary... Hopefully that made sense. You might be right about the Ozark Trail, but you can not call it flawed and give it a bad review if you can't specifically diagnose the problem and systematically resolve it. Don't say "I fixed it, but it's still not working right. The bike is flawed." You either don't know how to fix it yet, or you've got a defective part and haven't identified it yet. You just need more bike repair skills before you start giving bad bike reviews.
JFacko the things you listed as "flawed" are either personal preference or your lack of bike repair skills. Living happily with finicky mechanical disc brakes requires a certain level of brake repair skills you clearly don't have yet. If your remove the wheel, you MUST reinstall the wheel in exactly the same location, without bending the rotor, or the brakes will rub. You'll eventually gain those repair skills and understand my point. The issue you're having with the seat post clamp not getting right enough is because of the grease on the seat post. The issue you pointed out with the drivetrain skipping gears, cable damage, derailleur misaligned, etc. are all simple fixes for bike mechanics. Just cap the loose cable end, don't bother replacing the whole cable. Your issue with the tires is a person preference, you prefer a more road friendly tire and that's just what it is. I also wouldn't like those tires at all for mixed riding, but like I said that's a personal preference. New bikes will require more frequent adjustments as the parts get broken in, but if you clean, degrease and tune the cheap Ozark bike well, it will not need to be adjusted as frequently. You didn't need to add grease to everything, but adding the right grease to the right places is the key to success.
