zhlédnutí 338Před 14 lety
In Garrett Harding's classic piece "The Tragedy of the Commons," a commons is a natural resource shared by many individuals. In this context, "shared" means that each individual does not have a claim to any part of the resource, but rather, to the use of a portion of it for his/her own benefit.

The Salt Predicament
zhlédnutí 176Před 14 lety
It is difficult to manage the salts produced by irrigation, as shown by current experience in the San Joaquin river and Tulare Lake basins in California. In order to manage salts properly, we must first recognize their various types. We must also have a knowledge of their sources, transport, and fate.

Who owns the groundwater?
zhlédnutí 140Před 14 lety
The question of who owns the groundwater has no straightforward answer. Currently, anybody who can pump the groundwater under his/her property effectively owns it. However, in nature, groundwater is not a volume but a flow, and this flow is constantly moving from a place of recharge to a place of discharge.

Mud volcanoes of the Salton Sea / Imperial Valley, California
zhlédnutí 17KPřed 14 lety
A mud volcano is an Earth surface formation created by geo-excreted solids, liquids, and gases. The temperature of the excreted material is much cooler than that of a lava volcano. The excreted material is typically a slurry of fine solids suspended in liquids, including acidic or saline water and hydrocarbon fluids. The gases released are usually methane, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen.

En cambodya, en el lado exactamente oppuesto del planeta en su punto di-polar hay uno lugar que se llama "koh ker". Es un piramido y abajo del piramido hay un estructura como este. Yo solo save de tres, el otro es Sechin alto.
Lived in Page. We would go down to the lake and watch the water raise. The flood was exciting to watch. And to see Lake Powell held back by plywood sheets was something to see!

This is exactly what made the Grand Canyon. Cavitation works well with lots of water from Noah's flood

It’s amazing how global warming affected them in the early 80s.
Glen Canyon, Oroville, Teton, ancient Marib, St. Francis, Johnstown ect. Sometimes heroic engineering efforts prevent (or maybe just delay) catastrophe, sometimes not. Modern infrastructure has become very dependent on electronic controls & communication enabled by a fragile overloaded grid. Sure, we think we have backups but a cascading series of events may uncover some “fracture critical” pieces of infrastructure that were thought to be impervious to damage. (Fukushima backup diesel generators at sea level for instance) I have utmost respect for engineering minds but it seems there is always a part of their plans that assumes “that shouldn’t happen” and the plan is built around that idea. Over time, management & accountants determine that what shouldn’t happen, can NOT happen. Then the Black Swan shows up. The next pandemic, or maybe the continuation of this one, could disable enough of the population to the point this heroic fix couldn’t happen. Another 83-84 event, or worse, from Mother Nature will no doubt occur eventually. If your phone, computer, car, maybe even your light switches don’t work, could we pull off a similar engineering save. “Models” are useful tools but get relied on too heavily. Had Glen Canyon dam failed in this case, what would have happened with Lake Mead & Hoover Dam?
Como amo mi VALLE IMPERIAL VALLEY BABY!!!! From Calexico ca 92231 alright 👍

some of these look cozy to soak in.
They have not learned very much with these spillways, when they tested the 7 Oaks Dam in Highland Ca. below Big Bear there tunnel was destroyed by the water cavitation in the tunnel as well.
Least they are fixing the dam.
the canyon would look better without the dam
Strange people: *hmm yes, this is the way to salvation*
Four by eight Marine plywood used, double height, worked
Not four, eight feet high by engineer s
Lake Powell is 34 capacity, more beaches and still wonderful
Not four double eight
Took care of this problem with climate change
And here we are 38 years later with the opposite problem.

If none of these dams were built, there would be nothing to worry about. This is human caused trouble. And it's all about MONEY.
A pre-Inca civilization built the Castle and other megalithic walls, where mortarless blocks seamlessly fit together. The Inca construction is much cruder.
jajajajajajajaja payaso
