This is the CBS Emmy Award winning broadcast of the Paris Roubaix Bicycle race in 1988.
The horse that God built. There will never be another horse who will do what he did. Absolute perfection.
The relationship and understanding between the right jockey and horse cannot be underestimated
This majestic creature is just divine. And there’s something magic about this horse. 50 years later and people are still mesmerized by him. Almost everyone that knows of him and feels a soul connection with him. Truly remarkable
A miracle we got to see
I believe this, was a God doing.just to show us all , anything is possible with God.❤
Absolutely God given perfection
There is no horse as beautiful, in my opinion, as the Friesian. Perfection.
The good old days
I remember watching these races. I was 12 back then. I just loved this horse, still do!!! Such an exciting time in my life and millions of other people too!! Not long after the Triple Crown, Breyer came out with a Big Red horse model, he was immortalized for ever!!! Of course I had to have one! He passed away in 1989, I think euthanized, because of severe laminitis. I will never forget him!!! RIP BIG RED, LOVE YOU!!!!
Laminitis: killed with kindness. (Greed?) NOW they keep the studs trim and exercised. Not overfed and confined.
Secretariat never had mares of high enough quality to meet production expectations.
I get goose bumps every time I watch this video! Simply amazing!
Jack it is now 51 years later and I'm still crying every time I watch Big Red run
I was nine years old watching the belmont....greatest athlete I've ever seen.
I wonder if secretariat missed competing in races and the attention
One of a kind. No question.
There are no words to adequately describe Secretariat. Fabulous. Magnificent. Stupendous. Incredible. Amazing. Those words don't even begin to touch him. He was the one and only Secretariat. His name says it all.🌹🐎
Secretariat and the Miracle on Ice…the two greatest sporting events of all time.
Guess what kindness. This isn't the end result. Smiling God did intend a it's alright called my friend.
"He is moving like a tremendous machine" still brings tears to my eyes when I hear that call.
If for some reason you don't feel like watching the entire fiim, ff to 38:40. Not even Man O'War had that going for him.
...there is a statue of Secretariat with Ron aboard for the ride in the middle of the traffic circle at Old Frankfort Pike and Arlington Road just off route 4 between I-64 and Keeneland; the statue is 2 and 1/2 times normal size; and is visited by so many fans that they had to add parking around the entire perimeter of the traffic circle.
"Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?" "Do you make him leap like a locust, striking terror with his proud snorting?" "He paws fiercely, rejoicing in his strength, and charges into the fray." "He laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; he does not shy away from the sword." Job 39: 19-24.
The greatest performance the triple crown record. Perfection
The 73 Belmont is the single most dominating performance in sports history.
The trick was to hang on and let him run and things will be fine.
I have a painting of this horse in my home and I can't tell you how many people always rave about it when they come over.
I treated many of his progeny when I was in vet school and at referral centers many years ago. None ever could hold a candle to him.
When I watch the magnificent Secretariat run I am reminded of the famous line spoken by Eric Liddell, the real-life runner who won gold in the 1924 Olympics for Britain (basis for the film Chariots of Fire): “I believe God made me for a purpose - but He also made me fast. And when I run, I feel His pleasure.” Liddell was a devout Christian who was a missionary in China during WWII. His quote always makes me think of the magnificent Big Red whose unbelievable majesty gave us a glimpse of a truly awesome majesty.
Greatest athlete of my time. I am 71
Any athlete, In any sport, in any era, Secretariat was as close to pure perfection as you'll ever see.
The only horse who could possibly have beaten him in a race was the LONE Rangers horse SILVER.🤔 HI YO!
To put his Belmont 31 length victory into perspective, when he crossed the finish line it’s like crossing the goal line in a football game and the second place finisher was still at the opposing teams 17 yd line. He won by 83 yards! Speechless!!
I was a 12 year old athlete back then, hockey player, baseball, soccer, didn't really notice horse racing until Secretariat came along, that race he ran like a horse from heaven, I've never seen anything like it.
The most magnificent champion of all time. Period. I watch his Belmont race every year. He was breathtaking ❤
Greatest horse ever! Big Red will always have the fastest times, he was just amazing
My biggest mistake was not going to the Belmont when i was asked by my mom and her mom to accompany them....
I spent a lot of time at the track with my dad I miss going to the track.
This is all crap. The horse was a champion. These people were lucky. All by chance.
Greatest athlete ever
That horse was so very special man the speed and majesty he ran with was incredible Thank You miss Penny for the awesome memories
I'm not even a horse racing fan but it's hard not to get choked up watching that Belmont race.
Majestic & Magnificent 💙🤍 A glimpse of pure love and joy from God wrapped up in one; and of course it would come in the form of a horse, one of the best gifts God has given to humans. The touch this champion does to my heart is indescribable - fresh every time. I can’t even imagine the experience of seeing/meeting him when he was alive. Thank you very much for posting❤️ #loveyouso #Secretariat #BigRed #Beauty
She grew up when America believed in Family, today we have lost that. the only people left are Asians!
He gassed the other horses., What amazed me about the horse. The jockey never used his crop!
We watched GOD's perfection that day.
I WATCH THE RACE IT WAS AWESOME I DON'T WATCH HOUSE RACING. BUT HEARD SO ABOUT THE SECRETARIAT I HAD TO WATCH IT. SECRETARIAT WAS ONE IN A 100, 0000 HORSE THAT WAS SOME AWESOME RACES. 🙂
How much were the owners worth?
LEGEND
THE HORSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NUMBER ONE. I KNOW. I AM HIS GODFATHER.
