You should also slide your wheel under the frame for a secondary stand incase the Jacks fail. Also, always chock your wheels whenever you jack up your vehicle.

Your doing your Son a disservice by teaching him to do these things with power tools. Always start them off with ONLY hand tools.

Good job dad, I never had a dad to teach me anything. Ive learned all my mechanics from youtube and online sources. Made a ton of mistakes. Literally bought an old mustang and like 1k in tools just to fuck around with and learn. Honestly might start teaching my daughter this stuff, if shes willing. Lol.

Show him how to take that tire you took off and slide it under the car right behind the wheel well 4 extra safety. And how to properly jack/ brace a car safely at the proper points, chock tires an make sure your jack wheels can roll freely

Just do it by hand don't use chrome sockets on a impact. Going from one fastener to another will heat up the socket making it weaker and could crack or shatter the socket. Then there's no safety glasses what if he wipes his eye and gets dirt or brake dust into his eye. Also the socket is a 12 point, not a 6 point, and since you're not using a torque wrench better be putting blue lock tight.

Power tools are a bad idea when working with brakes

U coulda saved some time, and just removed the caliper bracket, instead of the caliper first, then the bracket!

Metal wire coathangers are good for holding up your breaks so you dont break the brake line

Don't forget to show him how to compress the pistons by using a screw driver in the rotor through that little hole in the front of the caliper. First time I saw someone do that, I had to pick my jaw up off the floor haha.

Am I the only one who’s wrenched his whole life. Going on 15 years now. Never hung a brake up and never cause a leak. Those lines are insanely strong. You cant stretch a hydraulic hose meant to handle thousands or 10 of thousands of pressure the caliber isn’t heavy enough and It would take quite a bit of force to do it. Like a front end loader over lifting its weight capacity and blowing a hose off. Fun fact. 9x10 it’s the threads on the piston, not the hose itself

The only advice I would give is to crack the bleeder screw, push the piston/pistons in then tighten the bleeder screw. You dont want to back flow an anti-lock system, and you will always get new brake fluid in the calipers when you reset the brakes. Great job and thank you for teaching the next generation for techs. Been in it for 34 yrs and the situation is BAD.
