I will share insights on karate techniques, how to use them effectively with timing, distance, footwork and strategy and the optimal mindset. I will try to convey the underlying principles beyond techniques, those invincible principles are what makes karate a martial art that is independent of size and strength.
I will also share drills and training methods to maximize our training.
I studied under Sensei Nishiyama for 27 years many hours daily, won the world championship and 5 times US championship.
My passion is on keep learning and evolving and equally sharing what I have learnt.
This is for all karate people and anyone who is interested in maximizing their martial art.

zhlédnutí 729Před 7 hodinami
Takedown defense for Karateka. I had a request from a few Karateka to make videos about takedown defense for karate. World class wrestling coach Vlad Matyushenko is helping me with putting those videos together.. Vlad teaches wrestling in a way that will be easily understood for karate people. Principles of wrestling & karate are very much the same.

zhlédnutí 566Před 12 hodinami
Kata Nijushiho One of Nishiyama Sensei favorite katas. Nijushiho focus is smoothness as well as many types of Kime. Here are some key points, I will not talk about smoothness but rather correct execution of each action. Of course, there are many other points to cover.

The knee tap is a throw that can be very useful in sparring as well as competition, yet it is not used very often. Like most techniques it can be risky if not set up, and creating a Kyo (off moment), here is one way to set it up.

How back stance works? - a feedback exercise
zhlédnutí 423Před 21 dnem
Kokutsu dachi -back stance Power is indirect, pressure from front foot through body center to back foot using the breath, produces energy forward, and the technique is soft yet strong, arm is just a frame that allows energy to transfer. Pressure back is potential energy as well. Here is a partner exercise to help get the feeling of that concept.
Rotation in wrestling & karate (with Vlad Matyushenko)
zhlédnutí 345Před 21 dnem
Vlad Matyushenko is a world class wrestler (and my wrestling coach), here he explains the similarities in the use of rotation in wrestling & karate, using the inside rather than outside, being grounded for rotation to be effective.
holding pads offense defense
zhlédnutí 492Před 28 dny
When attacking, mind has to be distributed correctly, not being fixed. One has to be committed yet flexible, present, and be able to adjust instantly from offense to defense & vice versa. Here is pads drill to develop the ability to attack and switch to defense instantly, flowlessly. The drill can be done without pads.
Sen - intercept (how to enter without clashing, 4 ways)
zhlédnutí 711Před 28 dny
Sen timing - to intercept Is the timing of catching the opponent either when they commit to attack, or during the attack. The moment that the opponent commit or physically initiate an attack is considered Kyo (chance). Even with perfect timing one can still get hit, here are 4 ways to enter without clashing.

Great Sensie.....thanks again.....ouuusss
OSS sensei just a little question please. I know the belly muscles have to be thights but the principle of breathing must be bouddhist (natural) or taoïste (inverse natural) ? 😅
Thank you for the question. There is a difference, between breathing while you meditate or even walking in the street to breathing and muscles recruitment while performing an athletic movement, throwing a baseball, kicking and punching.
Oss...Thank you for the answer Sensei.
Same in muay thai
Grew up going to Nishiyama seminars in Fresno

Oss. How do you breathe during the first technics of Hangetsu? Inhale during uchi uke and exhale in gyaku tsuki or inhale-exhale then inhale-exhale?
Exhale on both Uchi Uk and Gyaku Zuki, since if you inhale on block, it will be a Kyu (off, chance) as well as weak.
Gold! Thanks Sensei, OSS!
