Studying Physiotherapy - Cardiff University
Hey guys! After a few responses on my Pros and Cons of Cardiff University asking for some more physio specifics I thought I would make this video! So here is another terribly edited video discussing what physio is, some key concepts, interview tips and a little bit about studying physio at Cardiff specifically. I didn't have time to fit in about placement too but will possibly make a placement specific video if people think it would be helpful! Here are the links I talk about ...

A terribly edited video about Cardiff University, good points and bad points for anyone considering coming here. Hopefully it will help someone out there, I know I spent ages searching through CZcams looking for videos when I applied!
Thank you for your helpful tips!
Thank you for this, I'm sending applications now. Hopefully I can experience this firsthand. Cheers!
Hii may I ask how long you spend on studying each day on average /how much time you spend before exams? I want to study physiotherapy but I am afraid I might not be able to handle the workload
hey how are you getting on now?
Hi, when choosing the right uni , is it better to choose a uni that take less people so that you are more focused on?
hi, do you still live in cardiff or have you moved?
Hi there, loved this video, quick question as someone who's thinking of applying here, how does the structure of your week look as a physio student at Cardiff, do you get a lot of contact hours? and do you have a set timetable you stick to every week? is it possible to keep a part time job? Thanks :)
Hi there! So I believe things have changed slightly since I trained and I think there may be some more online bits now. Our time table was pretty much 9-4pm with Wednesday afternoons off (generally for sport) they do a register and you are expected to be there or email why you aren't. Then with placement its full time 8-4 or 8:30-4:30 hours. I worked come evenings and weekends doing casual work but its a really full on course and difficult to juggle with personal life and exterior work life. It isn't impossible to work part time along side but have in mind you will be expected do self study outside the contact hours (9-4pm) and need some down time too! Hope this helps xx
@@lifeofluce7399 Thank you so much for the info, it’s really good to get an idea of what life would be like. And yes I can imagine the course is incredibly full-on! xx
This is single handedly the most helpful video I’ve watched for interview preparation! Thank you!!
Hi, What is the ethnic diversity like at Cardiff? Both at the uni and around the town aswell. Obviously won't be as diverse as london, but still hoping its decent there Thanks
Hi, I’d say Cardiff is a diverse place however nowhere near that of London where I grew up. Hope that helps!
@@lifeofluce7399 Yeah cheers. Cardiff just does not have the best reputation apparently, so want to know as much as possible before applying
hey, I have been offered a place in masters in digital marketing in leeds and cardiff... as an International student the cost of attending is somewhat same... so the decision comes down to nightlife and the social life in general... which one would you recommend and why. it would really help me as i'm really confused.
How much time cardiff university take to issue offer letters? I applied in July 2022 but i haven't received offer letter yet
Hello ma'am I hope you are doing well , I have done master of physiotherapy in neurology from india , I have no clinical experience and I am willing to be physio in UK, And I have two options either enroll in msc course in uk university then after that go for HCPC and NHS interview it will be easier or I have to start HCPC registration process, plz suggest which one is better way to get job in UK
Hi, probably best to do some study in the uk if you have no clinical experience, so the master course sounds appropriate for you prior to starting work in the nhs.

Hey there, What are the best and most useful Apps for university students in the UK ? Hope to hear from you soon .. thanks
Are term times the same for physiotherapy or do you have less summer etc?
From what I remember, the first year holiday and least year holidays are very similar to other degrees. The summer holidays in between 2nd and 3rd year is only 4-6 weeks (I can’t remember exactly) but this is because your on clinical placement. Hope that helps
@@lifeofluce7399 Thank you!
Received an offer to study physiotherapy at Cardiff next year and honestly can’t thank you enough for this video. The information I got from this and the whole placement structure and pros of the uni really helped in my interview and I can’t wait to start.
I’m so glad the video helped, best of luck and I might see you when you’re out on placement!
@@lifeofluce7399 sorry I’ve just seen this now 6 months later lol. Really enjoying the course so far. Lot of work but looking forward to placement and everything to come just need to get through the exam in January
Hello I’m thinking of applying here this year! Is it okay if I ask what grades and experience you got as I’m a bit bellow the requirements and wanted to know what admissions is like
Nice video you got..... Like how much does it take one from London to the university through bus?
Hi! Takes around 3hrs 20 - 4hrs by coach from London to cardiff
Four hours. National express stops outside the uni.
How far away from Cardiff are the placements? Like might you end up in like North Wales etc?
Yes, placements can be anywhere in wales. If you are sent anywhere over an hour commute the university give you a budget to arrange accommodation (hotel or air B and B) and/ or will pay travel expenses.
@@lifeofluce7399 How often are you sent on placement out of Cardiff or are most in or close to Cardiff?
@@mayac2371 overall you complete 8 placements, each 4 weeks long. These are split between second and third year and some are back to back.
For third year do you do all the 4 placements first then come back for the dissertation or do them randomly?
You start different parts of the dissertation throughout the year, for example to literature review - then do a placement.
Thanks for the very useful information! I just want to know about the quality/standard of Psychology deptt. in Cardiff University. Heard that Psychology deptt. of Cardiff University is one of the best in UK/world. Can you please elaborate?
Hi i am coming with my husband to study msc in physiotherapy .. kindly tell any apartment for couple near cardiiff any site i can check it
Dear....can you tell me how much was your course fee per year
most unis are 9,250
How is the practical sections and do we get clinical postings in hospitals?
Thank you for making this video. Wasn't able to go to UK so I needed to look for videos online I hope your new house doesn't have those seagulls lol
I received an offer from Cardiff university, and I would like to go to it, but I'm worried about the way this university teaches and what rules does it have, like is it really difficult to study there (from general perspective like are the staff helping you when you ask for them)? Are the prof. and tutors academically helpful? Especially the disability service (I'm mentally disabled with ELD and learning difficulty), are they also supportive? One final thing, is the university crucial with their teachings? Like if I did one simple mistake by accident will I be expelled?
You should've have come to Birmingham City University. You would have been appreciated for who you are
Hi, Thanks for you the video. I have an admission from Bedfordshire University Luton and Cardiff University. I am confused about which city is better in terms of finding a part job, cost, safety. Could you please help me out with this? Thanks
can i get ur email? i have something to ask abt cardiff. im from malaysia and will be going to cardiff next month to further my studies
Thanks alot!!!

Hello Luce great informative video TY. We are going to visit Cardiff in the summer so my daughter, who is wanting to apply to study Physiotherapy, can get a taste of the vibe of the place (does not replace a open day but better than nothing in current restrictions). Any recommendations on places to visit, route to take to get a feeling for the place both campus and town, outside of academics my daughters main interest is competitive swimming and lifeguarding so lots of time in pool/gym.
Hi Richard! Sorry I have just seen this! I would recommend getting your bearings by walking from the Talybont residence to the Heath hospital as that is the route I walked everyday in first year! Also have a look at the student union, have a walk/ shop in town! Cathays is the place that most students live in second and third year so maybe have a look around there (it’s not very pretty but that’s because it’s full of grubby students!). Maindy leisure center is the closest swimming facility to uni halls but I believe the competitive swimmers train at the international pool in the bay so maybe have a look there too. Hope this helps!
@@lifeofluce7399 TY Luce much appreciated. Sounds a good plan we have 3 days and 2 nights in Cardiff so should fit that all in :)
yes
do you have insta?
How is the masters course (physiotherapy) at Cardiff?
Hi, I do the BSC undergraduate degree so don't have much info about the masters! The Cardiff Uni website might have some good info if thats any help! x
@@lifeofluce7399 Yeah, I have gone through the website... but even though, trying to gather as much information about the uni !
this is so helpful as someone who doesn't know too much about Cardiff. I got into the school of law and politics, and am considering doing my law degree here. As an international student, it will actually be a bit cheaper to study here than in my country in the long run. However, it's a LOT of money upfront as opposed to "smaller" increments of money of like 8 years.
Did you do any politics modules? how was it, I'm thinking of applying for history and politics
Hello thank you for the video can you give me a rough idea of where most of the lectures and tuition is taught during first year?
Pretty much 99% of the degree is taught at Heath campus in the hospital lecture theatres and TDS building. Some parts of the course like manual handling and direction off Heath park campus.
@@lifeofluce7399 thanks for replying I have an offer for physiotherapy but I can’t visit the city atm because I live in England so I am trying to get an idea of what it is like to live there, how accessible is it to get around, how quick can I get to a beach, nightlife, sports etc thanks
@@beatsbyben5631 Have a look at my Pros and Cons of Cardiff Uni video, that should give you a good idea of the city. Let me know if you have anymore questions and I'm happy to answer them!
Pros and Cons of Cardiff Uni
Thank you for sharing. This is very informative! Could you please make a video on what textbooks to read in PT school? Also, where can we find papers as references for dissertation?
Hi yes I definitely will if I get time! For now I would recommend the physiotherapist's pocket book and Anatomy and human Movement: Structure and function, I will link both. There are a few ways to find papers, you can go through databases such as OVID, which your university should offer guidance on - or you can go for google scholar which I generally find a bit easier. You can also find articles through papers by looking at their reference. Hope this helps! x Pocket book: www.amazon.co.uk/Physiotherapists-Pocketbook-Fingertips-Physiotherapy-Pocketbooks/dp/0702055069/ref=pd_lpo_14_t_0/260-7885786-6588424?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=0702055069&pd_rd_r=9796e464-c8c6-45f6-bb55-27bce236fbd6&pd_rd_w=HI9Rg&pd_rd_wg=v3BrK&pf_rd_p=d8b3a5b8-7766-4dff-b57a-24ee5d46250d&pf_rd_r=7GCDTTZJBJH2PD888Z2E&psc=1&refRID=7GCDTTZJBJH2PD888Z2E Anatomy and Movement: www.amazon.co.uk/Anatomy-Human-Movement-Physiotherapy-Essentials/dp/0702072265/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=anatomy+of+movement+palastanga&qid=1617650901&s=books&sr=1-1
What do you think of Clodien house accom near the heath campus?
I have applied for masters of physiotherapy ... is it worth it ?
Hi, i'm really sorry but i don't know much about the masters programme. I can imagine it would be great when applying for a job though, especially a clinical specialist post.

Whts the cost of stay in Cardiff University???
Hi, Cardiff is a relatively low cost place to live. I have always lived in the cheapest options so in first year for Uni accommodation I payed £96 a week. For private housing in second and third year I payed £280-£320 / month not including bills.
@@lifeofluce7399 Am interested in a room on rent near Cardiff University. Pls help me if u have anyone who is willing to rent.

wow, so insightful!!!! I really want to do physio now
I’m so glad I could inspire you! Good luck on your physio journey!
I'm planning to do physiotherapy in Cardiff! If you have any physio specific pros and cons or even just advice for the interview that would be so appreciated. Oh also my name is Lucy (with a y though) so seems like we have a few things in common. 😂
Hi Lucy! Great to hear your applying for physio! I'm going to try and do a physio specific video some point soon so look out for that. just incase I don't get round to it before your interview my tips would be - - Be relaxed and try to let your friendly chatty side show - Research around the HCPC and CSP and mention them if you can (just who they are/ what they do etc) - Make sure you know a detail about why you want to go to CARDIFF specifically - Maybe mention that your interested in the Research side (as Cardiff is Russle group so research based uni) - Have a good understanding of core values (Compassion etc) - Understand the different areas to physio (NOT JUST MSK/SPORT!). Physios work in MSK, Neuro, CVR mainly but other areas too like paediatrics, amputees, oncology I hope this helps and good luck - most of all don't stress, they aren't trying to catch you out just smile and be friendly as that's such an important part of physio! x
@@lifeofluce7399 Thank you! Those tips will be super helpful. Will watch out for the physio video - can't wait! X
Hi, I just got accepted to study at Cardiff University for fall 2023. I'm afraid my coming shall be retarded because of funding. I wish to know if there are scholarship opportunities to help alleviate my expenses please! Thanks
Omg ur such a nice person
What’s physiotherapy like at cardiff in because I want to go to there as well. What grades did you get? If you don’t mind me asking.
Hiya, it's a really great course. I'm going to do another video on physio specifically soon so keep a look out for that. If you mean for A-Level grades, I got A*A*A but I think the requirements are AAB.
I’m doing sports coaching and playing netball at uni which accommodation is best for a sports student
