positive thinking and positive speech is really self deception and denial. greatfulness and assertiveness are the things that get you aligned with benefit. grief is the hinge to letting go of hurts, things that you lost, things that aren't working. in order to face reality you have to be willing to grieve and trust safe people. you dont have powers to make your own reality.

@3:28 'if you have ever tried to explain to a stupid person in an online discussion that he is stupid...' I would take a close look and reassess who the stupid person really is because 1.) 'You don't know what you don't know,' therefore: 2.) 'when arguing with a fool, first make sure the other person isn't doing the same thing.' Also, incompetence ≠ stupid. If you take quote 1.) the study shows how everyone perceives their ability to be higher. The difference is, those with no knowledge of the subject they were tested for couldn't possibly know how much there is to know to have accurately accessed their competence. Those who were highly knowledgeable in the subject didn't rate their competence much lower, they rated it more accurately but rated the competence of others as higher - this could also be viewed as incompetence on their part as they assumed that everybody must know this subject matter because they do. @2:49 you said the incompetent had 'no change' when faced with their results. Of course, they didn't because they were still unaware as to what it is they don't know. After this, when given a short course on the subject, they assessed their lack of competence in the test far more accurately. From what I have read so far, the point of the study is that everyone has areas where they are incompetent and areas where they are competent. Telling someone on the internet, they're stupid because they refuse to agree with you could literally be used as an example of the Dunning-Kruger- Effect. You are assuming they know what you know and are still coming to the same 'stupid' conclusion, therefore they must be stupid and you're also assuming that you know everything it is that they know so how could it possibly be you who has the stupid opinion. Too many people telling others they're wrong and stupid instead of listening to one another and explaining why/how this is the conclusion they arrived at. 'Give a man a fish' is quite like telling someone they're stupid. 'Teach a man to fish' is giving them the information they need in order to discover the knowledge they never knew, they never knew.

It should be noted, the first graph has nothing to do with D-K effect. It's become a meme wrongly attributed to D-K often by those less competent in the subject than they imagine.

3:26 "If you have ever tried to explain to a stupid person in an online discussion that he is stupid, you already know it is impossible," ............. that says it all, for both of you. Is that person stupid because he disagrees with you? Or is it because you know a little bit about a thing called Dunning Kruger and so you must be right? Did the two of you participate in a D-K type experiment? If not how exactly are they logically connected -------- the existence of something called D-K and the other person being the "stupid" one? What utter arrogance. BTW, the initial graph you showed is a meme that is not D-K, nor even a proper mathematical representation. I'd bet $20 to $1 you didn't even read their paper.

"If you ever try to explain to a stupid person...that he is stupid." "Definitely do not insult others." This is very useful information, but if we are to, "approach the other side with respect and slowly try to help them understand the complexity of thing," we can't start by calling them stupid even though they may be arguing an incorrect point or the conversation is over a social media platform.

The Dunning-Kruger effect has already been debunked in serious studies. Please stop spreading myths on your channel. It seems like this channel itself is suffering from the purported "Dunning-Kruger" effect by failing to go to the original papers and examining the data carefully. In fact, one should be exceedingly skeptical in general of any of these purported "effects."

A worse problem are people who are experts and are smart and have their whole life been told they are smart and then not only feel overly certain of their view but also stop critically thinking, but still feel entitled to tell others what to do. Examples are the kind of experts who place nuclear generating stations on fault lines, or close to the ocean (in active geologic areas as did Japan) Examples in the fields of finance, ( trusting Elizabeth Holmes or Bernie Madoff), government policy, and so much more. These people do irreparable harm to others, unlike Dunnning Kruger where the dummies usually hurt only themselves. We are now being told to "trust the experts" and trust them we frequently must, at our peril. Decent experts display a humbleness, unlike the egomania that is common in false experts. And unfortunately Tony Fauci exudes egomania in a huge way. .

This is nonsense. Epistemic certitude is often not available on this earth, and imputing the Dunning-Kruger effect to one’s opponents is no more than argumentum ad hominem. Further, it cannot be generalized to all phenomena! It was a very limited study, and this video overestimates the meaning of this study. Who gets to call himself an expert about all things, so expert that he or she is free of the Dunning-Kruger effect?! When is a person certifiably and provably free of Dunning-Kruger effect in any field of study?! Who is the arbiter of such things?!

I never found this to be an issue, but from a young age, I could see what a problem it was for others. It’s not that bad, people, to admit you didn’t know something, or that you were wrong. It’s a temporary state. So what if you were wrong? Admit it, learn from it, and move in. Don’t let the fear of being mocked, allow you to live in fear.

I find the issues used as an example suspect. Not only are average joes who don't believe experts guilty, but in most of these issues the "experts" themselves lack any of the humility you'd need a real expert to exemplify to show they have any actual mastery of the complexity of the truth of any issue. Nearly anyone who is quick to point out how "dumb" others are on any issue are themselves overconfident about the complexity of why disagreement exists.

Nah...I can think of several problems much larger than this one. For instance, what if millions of inexperienced, brainwashed youth were led to believe that they, and only they, were the true arbiters of what is morally righteous in this world, and were then trained to go into attack mode whenever they encountered anyone with a differing opinion?

What ever happened to trying something and if it doesn’t work trying something else? Also, why do we need to change those things that work? Just for the sake of change? I understand if something works “better”, more efficient and such, but why do we change something that was working and thus causing the whole works to implode? Know when something working is working and leave it alone and fix what really needs fixing! Also, why do we need to always be nice while someone is disrespectful, taking advantage of, or just screwing you over? We must always have a smile on our face and be nice even while we are getting screwed! Don’t get mad! Your not nice! While the very person who is screwing you over is accusing you of being mean! WTF is that?!
