"I'm The Ice Cream Man" by Chet Nichols from the CD, "Band In The Basement
This is a fun rocking blues song that Chet wrote back in 1962, when he was a bus boy in an ice cream parlor and he convinced the owner to let him play his guitar on Sunday's to entertain the crowd....then back to busing tables. He was inspired by the local teenager who drove the ice cream truck. The girls all swooned over him. And aside from ice cream, he sold fireworks, cigarettes and cans of Schlitz beer, too. Full-service ice cream man!

:::::::::::::::::: A Note from producer, Stephen Barncard :::::::::::::::::::::::::: "If you haven’t heard Chet Nichols, and love great original acoustic music, be prepared to have your socks blown off. He’s a wonder of nature that plays and sings these original, complex yet endearing melodies, and sounds like 3 people playing. This state is enabled thanks to the gifts of incredible range and choir-boy quality of the voice, driving rhythms that may include hands, feet, rings, sometimes even a trick knee and special “open tunings” used to create the song space. I first caught Chet back in KC in 1969, where he was headlining at the Vanguard Coffee House on Main street. I was blown away. An invitation is offered to come to play at KCJC, the radio station, where I was known as ‘NightFreak’, followed, and the rest is history. That night at the radio station, I set up the news mic on Chet’s guitar, an old RCA 44, and another beat up 44 at my announcer’s position, and just let him play.. .. after an hour and a half of a stunning performance I realized we had to work on a project together at some point in the future. And it happened - we ended up in San Francisco and were able to cut the tracks for this record between 1970 and 1971. This release is the long-awaited 2015 remix of Chet Nichols' CD, "Beetles Are Coming". It features ALL-NEW HD/HiFi-quality restoration, re-mixed, re-edited and re-mastered tracks from Chet's ground-breaking first album, "Time Loop". Great care was taken to preserve all that was on the original master tapes: 16track 2inch 3m or Ampex machine --> 3m tape--> 16 track Studer-->Digital HD 24/96--> digital mix--> dithering-resampling to 44/16 in mastering-> 44/16 master file at Bandcamp-> Bandcamp delivers file format of your choice. This remixed-remastered version restores the vision we had had for this project all along. It just took a little time. We located some better takes and alternate parts and took away some others. We also fixed some pesky phase and polarity problems with the many microphone experiments, including stereo vocals. Revisionism? Perhaps, but for the better. For the songs. For the Sound. This record is a special treat. You can have the best experience if you download the larger Apple Lossless or FLAC files before burning to CD or placing in your library. We hope to offer a 24/96 version at some point in the future. thanks for listening. stephen barncard barncard.com ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Notes for CZcams movies ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: This album is a the collection of songs in the long-awaited 2015 release of Chet Nichols' CD, "Beetles Are Coming", which includes ALL-NEW HD/HiFi-quality restoration, re-mixing and re-mastered tracks from Chet's ground-breaking first album, "Time Loop". This CD (as was the initial recording, "Time Loop") has been produced and engineered by Chet's early producer and engineer, Stephen Barncard, a fixture in the San Francisco music scene since the late 60's, where Stephen began his career as an engineer at the infamous Wally Heider's Studio. Stephen has worked with many well-known bands and artists including; The Grateful Dead, CSNY, David Crosby and many others. Chet and Stephen teamed up, again, to polish this gem up for you. Chet, too, was part of the San Francisco music scene, as well as being one of the corner-stone, singer-songwriters of the Kansas City music scene in the 60's and 70's. Chet was later inducted into The Kansas Music Hall Of Fame. Followed several years later by Stephen. The sonic quality of these tracks is superb and it takes an album recorded in 1971 and upgrades it to the highest, current HD Hi-Fi sonic standards available today. It also includes a bonus track, "Red Tide", which had been buried in the vast library of Chet's early work. Moreover, Stephen Barncard was able to discover several takes from the original album and upgrade them with better takes. Please wear a nice pair of headphones when you enjoy this ground breaking and historically important album. 2+ years in the making, restoration, re-mixing, re-tracking, re-conversion and re-mastering, we hope you enjoy this highly-acclaimed and revered album. It features Chet's smooth and soaring vocals, virtuoso guitar work and unparalleled songwriting and lyrical story-telling. We also ask that you support this fine, independent artist and purchase the music tracks available here to add to your personal music library. And it happened - we ended up in San Francisco and were able to cut the tracks for this record between 1970 and 1971. kmc56 Hi there, Good question AND a long story behind it. Originally, the album was going to be called, "Horses & Eagles", but the record company was pounding on me to write a flat-out commercial "hit" or they threatened NOT to release the album. I had a lot of feedback and pissing and moaning from all sides, but I made an executive decision and wrote "(Spinning On The) Time Loop". I recorded a "demo" version of just me and my old up-right grand at my Tonganoxie farm and sent it to the record company. Mind you, I was till pushing back hard that "Electra" was the hit they were looking for. Anyway, they heard "(Spinning On The) Time Loop"....and dug it. They also wanted a proven "hitmaker" to produce it, so I had to use Nick Granvenities. Personally, I thought Stephen Barncard was doing a great job, but sometimes to move a project along, you go with the flow. So, I flew into SF and we recorded "(Spinning On The) Time Loop". It replaced the track, "Horses and Eagles". I think we put "(Spinning On The) Time Loop" on the vinyl version, leading off the B-side. On the new CD, "Beetles Are Coming", we dropped it in the middle of the album. The added acoustic guitar part, really warmed the track up...and it blends in better. It also, give the listener a wee bit of a sonic break. In the end, "(Spinning On The) Time Loop"...did OK as a single, but "Electra" was immediately picked up on KLAX in LA and was in an every-hour spin rotation for 3 weeks. Still ,the record company never really promoted "Electra". Ahhh, the freaking music and record business, so weird. I constantly find myself just trying to protect the songs and the direct focus of the presentation from everyone who wants to tell me they have a "better idea". I see it sometimes as too many people wanting to add another shot of rum into the "fruit cake". Anyway, I am glad you like the album and be sure to stop by my website site and listen to the all NEW HD-versions of the songs at..... www.chetnicholsmusic.com ... or .... iTunes....or.....chetnichols.bandcamp.com (on May 3rd, 2015).

HI KMC56, thanks for the kind comment. It means a lot to know that I have inspired them with their music. Please stop by my new website, www.chetnichols.net. LOTS of new material there. Interesting question about "Time Loop". The album was an indie production which has much to be said, as it was produced in 1970, and the songs were basically songs I wrote in the late 1960's. Anyway, Kama Sutra loved the album and agreed to sign it up, BUT...they didn't think there was a "single" on it. I argued that "Electra" was the single. They agreed, but wanted ANOTHER "single', so I wrote "Time Loop", a spacey, 60's-70's psychedelic rock song, brought in some killer back-up players and recorded it in SF. Because it was so different from the rest to the album, the only place it fit was as an "opener". By the way, we have re-mixed, re-mastered and brought the sonic depth up to modern standards. We also, added a couple bonus tracks and found and used some better takes of the original songs, and re-named the album, "Beetles Are Coming". It sounds GREAT! You can hear it at my new website ... http;//www.chetnichols.net. All the new cuts are available there and at iTunes....etc.....thanks for the comments. PS At my site, check out the album, "Hollywood Altars"....... Best to you, Chet

John Rose Hey John, Glad you enjoyed this album and that it inspired you. I do have some exciting news to share with you. We have taken the old "Time Loop" album and re-stored it. It has been re-conditioned, track by track, re-digitized to current HD HiFi standards, re-recorded (I added an acsutic guitar part to the song, "(Spinning On The) Time Loop", re-mixed and re-mastered. Also, we found some better tracks than those on the original album and replaced them with the better tracks. Stephen Barncard did all these duties, as we live thousands of miles away from each other. The "new" verison of "Time Loop", has been re-released as, "Beetles Are Coming", and the sound quality is stunning. You can buy it at iTunes and is being rolled out to several other select Internet music sites. You can hear it at chetnichols.bandcamp.com ... or .... www.chetnicholsmusic.com ... or .... at Broadjam.com. So, head on over, grab a good pair of headphones and enjoy this highly-enhanched version of "Beetles Are Coming". Also, there is a lot of new material at my site.... www.chetnicholsmusic.com. Check out the new album, "I Was Dreaming". Best, Chet......

Great Song! I remember this song because my Father, Don Harness used to sing it to my sister and I as kids.He said that he Played with Chet and knew him fairlyt well and he played with him in Topeka Kansas in the 60's and Just before he Passed away in October 2009, he told me I had to listen to his CD and I loved the song, "Who Stole The Ivy" This song brings back such fond memories for my sister and I both. Ive never met him, but I've known him for years. Thanks Chet!

Hi, Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you like the song. I do, too. Oddly enough, the prophetic aspects of this song have come true and are still unfolding today. I remember that show vividly. It was one of two that I did at Red Rocks....great place to perform....REALLY great sound from and on the stage. Google me and you will find my music sites. You can buy mp3 files at any online store.

Great song! One of my favorites. I saw you do it at Red Rocks in Colorado in 1970(?) Brewer and Shipley and Mary Travers followed you but you were the best part of the concert.
