POV: You've been fired/laid off and now watching a video about your premiums raised to 1/4 - 1/2 of your ex-salary.

Prior authorization is a scam created by insurance companies claiming to help patient by reducing unnecessary tests or procedures, but in reality it only hurts patients and makes the insurance more money since they deny a lot of stuff. Im probably going to lose most of the functionality in my leg in the future because my insurance keeps denying any treatment, they claim i can walk now so there is no need for it.

It works by making life incredibly hard to get for many people its just another grift to take away life saving care so that the rich get richer and working class americans can be stomped on for no good reason

Pharmacist here. I always appeal on behalf of my patients! I would say if I wrote a letter of medical necessity, 80-90% of the time, I am able to get the drug approved.

Most current smokers are from generations that were lied to and no full disclosures about the products affects of use, therefore ALL STATES should ban up charging smokers. Why aren’t the obese up charged? Or the the mentally ill? It’s sick to mandate insurance then tie the hands of smokers to afford it. Duh I ain’t buying it period, it’s impossible at the rates hey are charging.

My insurance approved surgery in 2 weeks but I logged in in my insurance app and it says it approve surgery but it says approved outpatient so what does that mean? That they're not going to pay for the hospitalization? What do I do?

While IN hospital my husband was approved, then mid hospitalization denied continued coverage as unnecessary, then when the Peer to Peer Dr review was done it was covered toward the end of his 43 day stay again because he took a turn for the worse. This is insane. We will appeal.

Hi hope you can help me I have a rare back condition and only a handful of neurosurgeons do the surgery and the provider's office sent twice the appeal and my insurance is saying we never received anything and I know that's a lie I even sent one complaint to them back in June again my provider's office fax them again on August 1 it's been almost 30 days I haven't received anything and I think they're just ignoring me because the provider is out-of-network but as I say it's a rare condition and he is the only one that could do the surgery I don't want to go one in network and does not have the experience and then they'll mess me up more. I sent numerous emails to my insurance they said they didn't receive anything again so I'm thinking maybe I should just fill out the paperwork for the external and goldirectly to the external appeal because they are ignoring me. Maybe if I fill out that paperwork for external appeal maybe they would pay attention to me and get a hold of my insurance even my provider has called and they say there's no way they can find who is taking care of this and they don't have anything on file I need surgery as soon as possible my symptoms are getting very worst please tell me an advice in this matter I appreciate it.Thanks.

Thank you! Appealing my 96 yr old grandfathers insurance. He’s been living entirely independently up until this recent health scare one month ago. He recovered enough to move from the hospital to a rehab center within 7 days the insurance was calling to cut off coverage for his care. It’s ridiculous. He can’t swallow normal food yet, or stand on his own, he’s a WW2 vet who dedicated the rest of his life to education and humanitarianism. Pathetic really how these companies and the whole healthcare system treat our elderly, this is first time my grandfather in 96 years has needed anything, some help, some time to recover after a life dedicated to serving others and the response has been to kick him to curb and let him die. Sorry for venting I’m just disgusted! Working on my 2nd level appeal now. Appreciate the info!

So much confusion in this part of healthcare system, just have the pharmacy personal. Meaning pharmacist and pharmacy technicians handle this, we know everything about insurances and the various medications. Not so simple I guess.
