    Thanks for the great video! I am having trouble connecting the Elgato to my DVD player. My LG DVD player does not have the yellow/white/black audio video jacks, just an HDMI jack (out to TV). Is there a coupler I can use to hook up these two (the female elgato jacks to the HDMI)? Any advice you can offer would be great!

    Hi, I like your video, quick question: I get the Yitrox, and it upscale well, but it displays only black and white, no colors at all, and it pauses the output constantly, the tape is good, I play it many times and it does not stop at all. Any recommendation to get the color back? My VHS do not have s-video output

    I really appreciate all of your videos. Have you, by chance, made one yet that shows the ins and outs of your settings in OBS? The hardware arrived yesterday: S-cable, Yitrox upscaler, power supply, Elgato HD60X, and new external hard drive. I've installed OBS and watched a lot of videos on their site, but I'm still tweaking and trying to understand resolution and pixels and stretching, etc., and what to select in OBS as the input and output sizes and FPS, etc. Are there any other tips, tricks, or videos that you recommend? Due to your CZcams channel, I now have the confidence to tackle digitizing boxes full of home videos. Thank you!

    Don't use Elgato vhs capture card. Bad quality, no 60fps, wobble, low bitrate and expenisive. I use an easycap capture card and I'm happy with it. It produces high quality,60fps, decent bitrate and it comes with easy-to-use software and the best part is that I paid only 10$ for it. Worth it! WARNING: the easy cap is named by many brands and the quality is inconsistant from brand to brand

    Newbie here. Your videos are excellent! In trying to mesh several of your videos together to go straight from VHS to hi def (1080p, I think). Would I connect the VCR to the Yitrox HD Converter to the Elgato HD 60 X to my laptop USB to make this work? And it sounds like the S-cable is superior to the composite cables so I have that option available. Have I understood how the Yitrox and the Elgato work together in between in the VCR and the laptop? Or should a newbie just stick with the regular Elgato simple setup because it's good enough? Thank you for all the videos.

    • @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld
      @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld Před 9 dny

      You got it all perfectly. The VCR / Camcorder what ever will use the RCA or S-Cable to go to the Yitrox (the upscaler) and that will go into the Elgato Capture card. then the piece I did not share, use something like OBS Studio to record the video, or Elgato will provide software also.. But I used OBS. thanks for watching

  • @EliteRock
    @EliteRock Před 11 dny

    You should always use a 75 ohm co-axial cable for composite video where possible, it can give a substantial improvement in image quality by removing the RF ringing in 'shoelace' wires. With PAL region VHS machines that have a SCART socket you can use an adapter with an RCA composite socket. They're pretty much the same as SPDIF digital audio connectors which use similar carrier frequencies (several MHz) to analogue video.

    I tried this. I purchased the Yitrox upscaler and hooked it up in between my camcorder and my capture device. All I got was a fuzzy black and white video. After reading the specs on the Yitrix upscaler, I learned that it does not support 240p input. It starts at 480p and goes up from there.

    • @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld

      @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld Před 9 dny

      Yes with the Yitrox it does support 4:3, I was learning in some of these and at times got lazy and just stuck with the 16:9. You might also need to set up a special profile with something like OBS because most computers are 16:9 now and they all want that format. good luck

    I've got the Yitrox influenced by your review. How in the heck are you supposed to get a 4:3 aspect in 1080p? Using SVHS for video inputs, I was only able to see 720p and a 1080p at the display (even though I'm having to push the DPI button around 5 times for scrolling to get those only two options...stretched picture from Hi8 footage of course (no pillarbox). Is this unit not going to do what I need it to do? Or will it, but I have to add the extra step of changing AR in post? Thanks for your videos.

    • @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld
      @MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld Před 9 dny

      So to make it work, I used OBS and created a profile that was 4:3, it still records 16:9 but the image can be made to be 4:3 with the black bars on the side. See if that works for you.

      @@MiddleSiggysDigitalWorld Not my style to do it that way. I didn't want to jack with it using OBS. I just ditched the entire unit, and went with a Tink4K using a BM Video Assist Monitor to capture in ProResHQ...took the computer and janky software right out of the equation. Works out fantastic! It is that workflow, after trying many, gave me the best results. 👍

If you cannot find it, at the moment I don’t have a recommendation, but I have been considering buying a bunch of the newer different models to see if I can find some other alternatives. I've watched several other reviews of the REELS digitizer, and this is the best one by far. A couple others, the guys were practically fumbling their way through... mis-handling the film, literally putting the feed reel on BACKWARDS in one case (sprocket holes to the wrong side!), and other issues, like putting their fingers (and accompanying sweat) directly ONTO the film emulsion... they had a lot to learn about handling film by its EDGES ONLY! This video is quick, covers a lot, and answered every question I had and then some I didn't yet know I'd have. At 07:55, it looks like someone slipped some old EKTACHROME footage in there with that "blue-ness"; definitely a post-processing time expenditure. I'm prepped for stuff like that though, so, no biggy. Overall, an impressive review, and very compact, time-wise. No wheezy guessing and gumming; just the important stuff. Thanks!!

    • @WJRHalyn-jw2ho
      @WJRHalyn-jw2ho Před měsícem

      @@larryhack4038 Every product I've seen on the market (7 or 8 so far, of this type) all explicitly warn they do NOT capture the sound-stripe for audio off the film... just the visual. For my own case, having a sound-capable super-8 projector, I'd run it through once and capture just the audio over to a digital file on my computer, then re-synchronize the sound to the recovered video file, about a minute at a time. But only AFTER post-processing a slowdown of the video file. Because, weirdly, while super-8 is projected at 18 frames per second, these convertors end up generating raw video that runs at the equivalent of 20 fps!! So, the final product is WAY out of sync with it's original audio. Thus, when you run the video through your editing program (post-processing), you MUST slow it by 10%. (20 fps to 18 fps = 2 fps difference; 18/20 = 0.9). And if you've got a reasonably good video editor, you should also run the imagery through a "de-noising" parameter, if you have it. That softens the JPEG-y graininess the conversion can create. (The third setting on the REELS can also "kind of" de-noise during the transfer, but also may induce a little more blurriness than you want.) I prefer the greater control you get with post-processing. Then adjust your colour settings to your best choices, insert the audio tracks to match up, and render it all to a final, finished movie.

  • @zalione
    @zalione Před měsícem

    You should never upscale or deinterlace a sd source like pal or ntsc for archiving. There is absolutely no benefit. It’s like filling a half-full bottle of wine with water and then expecting to have more wine. It just increases the file size but will not give your signal more information. The best way is to capture the source as it is with a professional analog to sdi converter or something like the blackmagic ultrastudio hd Mini (which I use). Capture to ProRes 422, interlaced, and at original resolution and you will get the best most crisp image. It helps a lot if you use a high quality s-vhs player with s-Video out and tbc (time base corrector). Thats for capturing. For just watching videos on a big modern flatscreen that’s a different story. But since most modern tv’s upscale and deinterlace sd material in very good quality there is basically no need for external equipment like upscalers.
