French is not Latin.
yes it is, a more celtic influenced latin but it is still latin
@@patax144 it’s more Germanic than the rest of the Romance languages. It’s the furthest from Latin
Who said it was Latin? Also, it's still a Romance language as English is still a Germanic language.
In Spanish, matters related to rivers are referred to as “fluvial”.
In Spanish it’s also “selva” for jungle. “Silvicultura” for forestry.
In Spanish we use “follaje” for, you guessed it “foliage”. Also we use “portafolio” for “briefcase”, leaf-carrier, but referring to leaves of paper.
We were so close to perfect alignment with “castor”. Italy … 😡
In Spanish when we refer to something related to horses we say “equino”. It’s not uncommon to refer to several horses as “los equinos”, but “caballo” is used much more frequently.
In old french fox was "goupil" apparently it comes from vulpiculus somehow
I came across that when looking into the etymology. I guess the 'G' is somehow a similar result of the 'G' appearing in loanwords from Frankish/Germanic sources such as 'Guerre'.
Catalan: Llop Cavall Guineu Os Castor
2:46 Urso the Portuguese term is a borrowing? borrowing from where?
From Latin. The inherited term is 'Usso'.
It's feels so powerful feeling somehow connected to the old Roman Empire, in my case as a native Spanish speaker.
Me encanta la musica
Check the description for a link to the music and its artist.
You forgot that in spain there are catalanians. And they have 'volpe'
Wonderful video I was very enjoyed keep up like that 😊
Sardinian: economia Dinare Carru Comertzu Lebare
Equus in french survived in words like équitation (horse riding), les équidés (equines), l'art équestre (equestrian art). I'm sure you'll find them in other roman languages. This being said, it seems french also like the greek "hippo" for a lot of horse related words. Hippomobile, hippopotame, hippotracté, hippodrome, hippocampe,...
Same thing happens in Spanish
It didn't survive, all of those are borrowings.
Finally, a channel that when talking about the Portuguese language does not appear with the Brazilian flag!
Sardinian: Campu Planta Vita or bida Arbore Animale
Sardinian: Lupu Cabadhu Mariane Ursu Castoru
Sardinian Terra Lacu Foza Lithu (not indo european word) Flumen
In Romanian there is the word "Fluviu" but it is only used for large rivers like the Danube, Rhine or Nile. I believe this might be borrowed from Latin and not inherited.
You should add Catalan! It has 10 million speakers and works like a bridge between Iberian and Galloromance languages!
Sorry but Catalán is just a regional language from spain, if not that relevant as their cousins
I will eventually do videos similar comparing the more minor/regional languages.
@@bonomomusic8701 not a regional language of Spain. It's the official language of Andorra, a coofficial language in Spain, and a language with thousands of speakers in France and Italy. Definitely not a regional language. It's bigger than Swedish, Greek, etc. when it comes to speakers😉
@@lluiscornet9020 yes, but Catalán only has andorra as the principal language of a country, if we add Catalán, we would have to also add Galician, napolitan, sicilian and others regional languages, catalán it's not most special than others regional languages
It s just a regional thing like galician occitian sicilian
- romanian does have the word "arbure, arbore" (along with "copac" ). - "plantă" is a recent borrowing in romanian, not an inherited word
I didn't say 'Plantă' is inherited. If you watch the video I say in the paragraph below the words: 'Compare the inherited Romanian term 'Plântă'.
in romanian "castor" is a recent borrowing. the old romanian name for this animal is "biber". this animal disappeared from today's romania in 18-19 cent and was reintroduced recently (with the new name)
Romanian: let's just not change grammar, still uses noun cases, plurals with -i, three genders, and still has people named Octavian, Marius, Cornelia, Tiberius...
those names are used "again" not "still"- they are recent borrowings not inherited. the grammar has changed significantly and those "three" genders are actually 2 and a half.
That'll be a good video to make in the future talking about the retention of some cases, and about those genders, being masculine in the singular and feminine in the plural. This gender switch for singular vs. plural does happen as well in Italian.
@@zarzavattzarzavatt9309 I know, I'm Romanian xD
We still have Romulus and Remus as well
El español es el heredero de Roma. No por nada es el más hablado, casi en toda América. Uno de los más utilizados, uno de los más importantes y también, uno de los más parecidos al Latín. SALVE ROMA
All Glory to Rome...
Ībō! Vidēbō! Vincēbam!
In Romanian "Life" = "viață" descent from latin "vivitia" (vivus).
Italian is imposter!!!
hi
Hi!
Pronunciations would help
I'll not this down and make shorts in the future of this!
