2024.. still watching and listening to this terrific performance! Donnie's Intro is fantastic! Share this with several of my friends "who had no choice didn't ask the dice to fall for them yet still have the courage that comes through like thunder through the skies.." They are Always the Winner in my eyes!
Didnt think I could listen to this beautiful song. My late husband proposed to me on the Banks of the river Doon. We got married on Burns Day, 25th January, 2005. He was my beautiful soul mate. Departed joy, departed never to return. Thanks Holly, breathtaking performance.
Sung so beautifully and with such feeling. I’m not sure many realise just how sad this song really is. Burns wrote it about Peggie Kennedy, who was abandoned by her partner of several years when she had a baby girl and wanted to get married. He was of much higher status, being a Captain , later Colonel, in the army, and also a member of parliament. Interestingly Burns knew Peggie when she was younger, 18yrs, and was so struck by her at that time that he wrote the celebratory song “Young Peggie” in her honour and sent this to her. Burns obviously heard what had happened to her later in life and wrote “Ye Banks and Braes” , reflecting poor Peggie’s heartbreak and grief as she walks beside the river Doon.
Hello Holly All the best on Robert Burns’ birthday 😊 As always I’ll raise a glass to your stunning rendition of Banks and Braes. I can’t believe how many years have passed since I first heard your beautiful tribute to Burns and it has only grown sweeter over the years. I wish you “ilka joy and treasure” Steven x
This song just makes me happy even though it’s a sad song, it’s so exquisitely done.

🌿💮🌿💮czcams.com/video/xHZl-UzYDpo/video.html 🌿💮🌿💮 "The Maiden's Vow" Hi all! This is the only way I can think to say hello to you all again, so forgive the gatecrashing of messages. I've just put a wee video to the Carolina Nairne song 'The Maiden's Vow'. I thought the words were so hauntingly beautiful,, I wrote this melody for it a while back. Hope you enjoy it!! Love to everyone, Holly x x x
Is there a recording of this song that is considered definitive? Most covers have elaborate or embellished arrangements based on a far more simple song structure. I'm trying to figure out what that original piece of music was; has it been jazzed out of existence?
You see, Scotland should be independent just from this. Although maybe it doesn't have to be. You'd hardly think she was from Bradford, would you? This is lovely and Bradford (bless its socks) isn't. We'd all like to wend our way through the flo'ry thorn, wouldn't we? But we can't unfortunately. Because we're not Scottish, or been abused by Burns. Ah just listen! Almost Icelandic! I don't think I can say better than that!
An old Scottish song & we believe, perhaps in vain, that love goes on maybe even wove into the fabric of future time. (Out here on the Coast we have roses in December.)
Hi Holly No kid on my knee 😂 but I can’t celebrate Burns birthday without listening to your lovely version of Banks and Braes - still so beautiful and still touches me after all this time All the best Steven
Hey there!! Awwwwww, it's so lovely to hear from you again, Steven! I feel so thrilled that we have these little moments of connection each Burns Night! THANK YOU. Sending all my love, H xxx
Fun Fact, When Napoleon heard this song he remarked it was "The prettiest English he had ever heard" upon being corrected and told it was a Scots song he replied he thought it sounded "Too pretty to be English"
Hi Holly The guy with the kid on his knee again (kid now 26!) it’s getting close to that time of year again and as always I have to listen to you. I’ll never convey just how much your version of Banks and Braes means to me - it is the most perfect rendition I can imagine - thank you so much Steven
Oh My Gosh, Steven! 'The Guy With The Kid On His Knee'!!! How amazing to hear from you again! I totally remember your beautiful comment.... my eldest is practically the same age as your kid, so I remember it really meaning a tremendous amount to me, plus I still have the image in my head of you sat with your kid. Though, that can't be right?! 26 now!! haha. Having someone welcome my singing into their lives, and for it to provide moments like this, is why I'm a singer and it is the highest honour. It's hard to get that across without sounding crass, but it means the world to me that you get such joy from Ye Banks and Braes. Take good care of yourself my friend xxx
Absolute jobbies.
Seen u at Glamis Castle years ago miss you donnie x Helen
Thank you from south west Australia.
The voice of Scotland. Donnie Munro the true voice of Runrig. Bruce had some big shoes to fill. He managed.
Thank god for scotland❤

Stole the rose, and left the thorn with me.

une voix mélodieuse avec des intonations d'une autre qualité que ce que nous proposent des radios la plupart du temps ...

A breathtakingly beautiful voice singing a beautiful song.
Written by John McCuish as he passed Harrris going by in a RN ship.

Burns Night 2023! Still loving this! ❤

Wow ❤
I think this woman's voice is so rich and wonderful. But above all, it's personal...it's like grandma is singing to me...but better!
Thanks so much Alan! x x x
@@hollytomasmusic2730 In the unlikely event you ever do a concert in Seattle, my wife and I will be there. You should play The Triple Door here.
Poor Holly. 😥
perfection...xx
Super
Echt klasse mal anders
Well, she made a total meal of that. I've heard little schoolgirls sing it better.

hahaha that's hilarious! Love that story! :O)
Love always the winner
Love this song very much!
This Version is so uplifting.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
Godamighty Miss Holly , I keep listening to this , year after year , and it just keeps moving me . Awesome :)
Thanks so much! So glad you keep coming back to it every year. All my love x x x
Beautiful
the audio is out of sync with the video so it looks like she's lip syncing badly. Shame, her voice is beautiful.
There's an in sync version on Holly's own channel 👍🎧👍
Omg such a beautiful voice. This song mentioned in a mystery by Caroline Graham. I looked it up. Its haunting.
This is one of the prettiest songs I have ever heard.
Thanks so much, Dean! :O)

Agree! I love it so much
This is so touchingly beautiful and only Karen can sing it. Thank you!
Good. She didn't cross the line into over "soulification" which ruins a lot of traditional songs sung by modern singers.
Tack för alla Videoklipp så bra hjälp 😍
I will never ever tire of this amazing voice... X
So beautifully sung.
