This is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Perfection.
This song was sung at the end of my beloved brother's funeral last year, so its incredibly special to me. Karen sings it beautifully xx
oh to be sat in that audience, to hear this beautiful voice and to soak up that atmosphere
This is so touchingly beautiful and only Karen can sing it. Thank you!
She has one of the sweetest and magic voices I have ever heard *.*
@@unterwant Well, it's because God gave her talent and she worked hard to perfect it. My love was like a red, red rose, but I didn't sound nearly this beautiful when I sang this song to her. I think she loved it, though, because she loved me - lucky me. She's gone now, and hearing this song brings sad tears of loss, and happy tears of gratitude and sweet memories of our years together.
@@jcavilia1 reading your words, I think that you have sang with your heart - and this always make voices sound wonderful!
I can't imagine loosing my rose but I think she will prefer me to have happy tears of gratitude and sweet memories a little bit more than sad tears of loss. So I will have to work for this. 🎼🎶🎶🎶
All the best for you!
@@unterwant Thank you for your good wishes. I hope that you and your rose enjoy many, many more happy years together.
Karen Matheson is a treasure!
Beautifully done Karen! I was feeling angry today over the state of politics in my country and finding this video turned my day upside-down. Thank you for sharing your lovely voice with us. Signed: a closet-caper stuck in Colorado.
Absolutely beautiful. Thank you.
How exquisite ! Especially, she sings in the traditional way. Thank you for the movie clip.
Think of the royalties The Bard would be collecting if he was alive today. Brilliant song. Brilliantly sung.
Lovely soulful singing.Beautiful song
a very beautiful version of this wonderful song!
La douce... Karen, Comme une meilleur chanteur et son merveilleux.
Karen Matheson is one of my favorite woman singers, or really one of my favorite singers. Especially nice that we can also hear her with Capercaille.
I shouldn't have listened to this song at work, I'm crying so much! >.
Just beautiful, such a very old love poem sung in that angelic voice.Bravo,a tear jerker for us old lovers!

Recited this to my wife at our wedding (I wore my kilt!)
That must have been romantic! I studied Robert Burns poetry and learnt to love Scottish literature. Of course I studied the Irish and English too, both of which I enjoyed very much.
well done !
(not everybody can sing it like Karen Metheson ....)
wish you both all the best !
Beautiful version.
This song was song at the end of my brilliant brother Ed's funeral back in April 2014 so obviously I find this song evocative and haunting .... but nevertheless this lady sings it so beautifully I kind of take a comfort in it now, so thank you Karen Matheson xx
June Marsh I'm so sorry for your loss, Ma'am. God bless your heart, and comfort you dear one.
I have a dream about red rose painting, it was light red background of that painting, with two red roses on it, and I'm really remembering the something written on that painting, year 1942 or 1962, I can't remembered all of my dream but the red colour is so bright, so natural, and so beautifull living. When i woke up in the morning, I remebered my dream about red rose, and I look at google to find the meaning of that, and I found a red, red rose poet who's written by Robert Burns, the scottishman. I didn't know anything about scottish song, or scottish poet, I never knew that, never. Last Novermber 2015, my heart is belong to the scottishman who is giving me the true love that I keep with me forever. Life is so weird and beautiful.
I treasure this as it was sent to me on Burnes night last year it was also Dydd Santes Dwynwen the Welsh Valentine’s Day 💕 he is Scottish and I am Welsh I will treasure it forever
what a voice....many thanks
Had this read at my wedding, means a great deal, thank you so much for posting,

My Grandfathers favourite Burns poem. RIP William Hamilton Brown. I love you with all of my heart ♥️
une voix mélodieuse avec des intonations d'une autre qualité que ce que nous proposent des radios la plupart du temps ...
Beautiful singer and poem
It gonna be my wedding song
Stunning😍
Wonderful rendition!
So sweet and beautiful.
perfection...xx
beautiful rendition
An old Scottish song & we believe, perhaps in vain, that love goes on maybe even wove into the fabric of future time. (Out here on the Coast we have roses in December.)
Evocative and reminiscent of one's home country, wherever that may be. I'm Scottish but the words don't belong to us , so please enjoy.
are you not up to scope rabbie burns was goin tae the west indies tae be a slave master, I love our poet jist dont put rabbie as some fuckin socialist reformer.and his poem a mans a man fur aw that., meant as long as he is white. So get fuckin over it aw you pinko liberals. SAOR ALBA GU BRATH

Hail great Scottish people. What a beautiful rendering of this spectacular song. What a treasure. I love the trio piano, voice, violin. I wonder who is the violinist?

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June :
My love is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun :
And I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while !
And I will come again, my love,
Thou’ it were ten thousand mile
If anyone has seen Road to avonlea, season 1 episode 5 has a BEAUTIFUL rendition of this poem. Unparalleled in my opinion.
Amazing.
So lovely
Robby Burns would be proud.
No doubt he would, but he borrowed some lines from earlier writers for his lyrics, and this tune is not the one he chose for his original setting - which was a fiddle tune by Niel Gow (Major Graham's Strathspey). It never became as popular as this traditional tune, 'Low down in the broom' which was chosen later by R.A. Smith.
love for ever ( S & R )
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in june;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune:
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I:
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only Luve
And fare thee weel, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.
Last time I recited this poem to my true love in Scottish tongue, she could not stay serious... I wonder how she'd react today... now that I'm lost somewhere in the middle of a ten thousand mile journey?
Very often the words are the heart's and mind's joy but unfortunately
, sometime they are not the reality mirror.
Perfect.....
very beautiful
in fact its reallly wonderful im studying lyrics in my poetry corse 😊😄🎓🎓

A Red, Red Rose
BY ROBERT BURNS
O my Luve is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune.
So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.
Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only luve!
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

My husband's mother used to sing this song in the vaudeville theatre in Glasgow and the whole city clapped and cheered her. She had a beautiful voice and used to sing for extra cash as she was very poor and her husband was away at war. This was during WWII. As I hear this it makes me want to cry. My husband died 15 years ago and I love and miss him so much!
What a beautiful story! My husband also died (he was originally from Scotland)...I feel that both husbands are with us when we hear this song--and are waiting for us!
My condolences for your loss. Even though it was 15 years ago, I'm sure you feel the absence of your husband deeply. I learned to sing this song about 15 years ago to sing it for my wife on our anniversary. I certainly didn't sing as beautifully as this singer, but I think my wife was touched. She died almost exactly one year ago, much too young at age 70 and still as beautiful as the first day I saw her 50 years ago. This is now one of the special songs I sing in remembrance of her. Peace to you.
@@jcavilia1 BTW, I am sorry for your loss. I'm sure that you singing this song was the sweetest melody on Earth for your wife.
@@jcavilia1 Peace to you as well!
