¡Ay Carmela! is one of the most famous songs of the Spanish Republican troops during the Spanish Civil War. The most popular lyrics to this Republican song have two variants known as El Paso del Ebro and Viva la XV Brigada. The first one is related to the Battle of the Ebro and the second mentions the Battle of Jarama, two of the main confrontations of the Civil War. The melody, however, is a folk tune of far greater antiquity, dating back to the Peninsular War in the early 19th century.
The Battle of the Ebro was the longest and largest battle of the Spanish Civil War. It took place between July and November 1938, with fighting mainly concentrated in two areas on the lower course of the Ebro River, the Terra Alta comarca of Catalonia, and the Auts area close to Fayón (Faió) in the lower Matarranya, Eastern Lower Aragon. These sparsely populated areas saw the largest array of armies in the war. The battle was disastrous for the Second Spanish Republic, with tens of thousands left dead or wounded and little effect on the advance of the Nationalists.

These are the Chetniks. They were officially the "Yugoslav Army in the Homeland", they started off as a royalist resistance movement (allied to the partisans) but very shortly afterwards started collaborating with the Germans because they deemed the communists to be a greater threat. So there was also a civil war going on in Yugoslavia at the same time besides just fighting off the Axis powers

Actually, I think the anthem is still the same from the independence of Albania in 1912 until today. Amazing.😊 The music was written by a romanian, Ciprian Porumbescu and was given to Albania by the romanians. An albanian poet made the lyrics. I'm curious if the communist s changed the lyrics.
