Just a fun-filled day doing what I love: getting lost in the Ozarks and chasing smallies. It was a tough day on the water. I saw plenty of smallmouth in the mile stretch I covered, but most would chase my streamer and then disengage at the last minute. I tried a variety of streamer patterns, testing different colors and sizes, but the outcome remained the same.
It was one of those days where heading home seemed tempting, but I’m glad I pressed on upstream. At the end of my one-mile wet wade hike, two smallmouth finally took the bait and fully committed. It turned out to be a beautifully memorable day.
If you had told me 10 years ago that I would uproot my family from Kansas, move to the heart of the Ozarks, and start recording fly fishing adventures to share with the world, I might have believed part of it. The moving part was always a dream of mine. I fell in love with the Ozarks when I was very young, and that love never left me.
But then life happens, and some dreams start to fade. You always believe there will be time for them later. Life moves fast, and sometimes you hit potholes that throw you off course or even fall asleep at the wheel.
Well, about five years ago, I woke up. I wanted to explore the most beautiful place I know: the Ozarks. Every time I venture outdoors, I see something new that fascinates me. But to find those moments, you need to slow down, almost to a stop, and look around.
This episode is different-it’s for you. Live your life now and do what makes you happy. Don’t wait, because your older self will wish you had done it sooner.
Appreciate the day you have and savor every moment.

Been fishing the old one lane bridge for about 40 years now! If you want to do a very good all day float, start here and float down to the old fisher ford bridge/kayak park. A lot of good fishing along the way! Also if you are into geocaching, and if you are not you are missing out on a lot of good clean fun, there is stage one of a two stage geocache at this bridge that will lead you to another cool old bridge a few miles upstream from here!
I've had the section on the schedule to float sometime, just need to commit and do it 😄 I actually did some geocaches way back in the day and haven't done that in years. Thanks for watching!

Sometimes the Kankakee here in Illinois is like that. Planning on fishing Beaver tail waters October. Love the Buffalo also.

My favorite section to fish is interstate to town hole. I've been tearing them up every weekend for a month. White or craw patterns been working

best place for wading the white river?
The White covers about 720 miles so I guess depends where you are. For me in Northwest Arkansas I fish beaver tailwater at Parker Bend Access. Thanks for reaching out!

thanks for this.. I have floated elk river by myself and used spinner rod to catch some river smallies. Im now interested to try these little creeks that go into it. I want to try that place out. I finally caught my first fish ever on a fly rod at roaring river. I caught it on a deer hair hopper I tied. then the next day I caught one on a crackle back i got at tims fly shop. Now im hooked on fly fishing. It seemed impossible at first. I'm still very bad at casting fly rod.

Great question. The White River below Beaver Dam maintains a temperature of about 52 to 55 degrees year-round. This is because the water released from the base of the dam originates from over 100 feet deep in Beaver Lake, where it is ice cold. This seven-mile stretch of the White River, known as the Beaver tailwater, provides an ideal habitat for trout throughout the year. Thanks for watching!
