In a world full of fitness channels with 6 packs and body builders I wanted to put across the perspective of the average person. I have a belly, I love food and I enjoy a beer, but... I am starting to love training and really enjoying my fitness 'journey' (yes I know that is a cringe way to describe it).
I started this channel to keep myself accountable for my workouts but hopefully you will take something from this too! I will be uploading weekly videos with tips, advice, fitness challenges and progress on my 2021 fitness goals among other things, so if you are interested in seeing what I get up to please subscribe ✌🏼

My First 5km Run with a GoPro Hero 9 Using a Chesty Performance Chest Mount
I just passed into the next stage which is the practical assessment stage! Thanks a lot for this amazing video. It definitely increased my knowledge and confidence!
Congratulations and thank you very much for the kind words. Really pleased this video helped you out. Good luck with the next stages 🙌🏼
Literally just done my FRFT. Got 8.8 which is now the pass level (was practicing a week prior to this and highest I got was 7.2 so just bare in mind when you’re with others doing the real thing you realise you’re much more capable than you realise!) just gotta keep going! Smashed all the Job related tests. Got the uniform fitting soon so all is looking well so far! 😎
Congratulations mate, should be really proud of yourself. You’re going to love it
What is mental is, in the military, our bog standard new recruits have to get to level 9.10 on the bleep test. Yet Firefighters only need to get to 8.6. In the end Firefighters then have to do a strenuous job and most the military sit on their ass behind a desk most of the week lol
Yeah I see your point. I still find it odd that the police bleep test is even lower than fire service. Would think you’d need to to be the same at least
Know its abit late, just one question are pull ups and push up included in the fitness test at any point? Cheers
Hi Joe, no they weren’t included when I did my test. Not sure if this has changed since but I doubt it
I know it has been 2 years since this video so might not hear anything. I've put my interest forward, now waiting for the appollo assessments to come next. I am just about worried about getting passed them to, hopefully get in to the training. Any advice on how to pass them or how to prepare for them?
Is there anyone you know at the station you are looking to join? I always think it’s great to see if you can come down and speak with the team and see if they can show you things there
@stevengetsfit782 I would feel a little silly to just turn up and start asking questions, or is that OK to do? There is people I can ask but just trying to get in touch with them now
That’s why I asked if there was someone you knew who already worked there. I was lucky enough to know someone which meant I went down and learned a lot about he process at the time
@stevengetsfit782 I actually do, I've just not been in touch with him for a couple years. I could try reach out to him and hope from there haha
In lockdown I got addicted to junk food i gained 85lb in 7 mouths very embarrassed
You wouldn’t be the only one mate, a lot of people struggled as it was a difficult period of time. One day at a time, small changes and you’ll get where you want to be 💪🏼
Hope you have reached your 20 minute target. Just do hill work and interval training. I was running a 19 minute 5k when I was 40 so you have plenty of time to achieve your goal. Good luck
Unfortunately not, I did complete a marathon though and loved all the training for that. I think I’m built for distance not speed. Thanks for the comment mate and well done for the 19min 5k, that’s insane 🙌🏼
How many months, or years did it take you to go through the recruitment process?
It was around 2/3 months worth of recruitment process from start to finish from application sent in to starting training. This includes things like interviews, medical, uniform fit etc
The engineer side and maths
What do you mean?
watching this right now and the taster session is in a week. i’m absolutely shitting myself about the bleep test mostly - i’m fine with everything else.
Good luck with it! The bleep test is done as a group so hopefully that will help give you the support you need to push through
I’ve just passed my physical yesterday. This video has helped me quite a bit with getting ready. However I’ve noticed there’s bit of a difference between fire services, north wales fire and rescue service, we did equipment carry, ladder climb, confined space, ladder lift, casualty evacuation, and equipment assembly. No bleep test for us. On to medical next. Any pointers or what to expect?
Hi, well done for passing mate! Interesting that you say that, I had a feeling that each location would be different. Lucky that you didn’t have to do the bleep test haha. Not sure if this will be different to yours, but they did things like a urine sample, eye test, took my height and weight. You have lungs/breath tested by blowing on a something that’s tests the capacity of your lungs (tricky then you think, but they’ll tell you what to do) and a hearing test where you sit in a booth and press a button every-time you can hear a beep. That’s as much as I remember!
Excellent video!!
Thank you Benny, really appreciate it 🙌🏼
0:40 Having a smart Alec dig at the police force will get you nowhere, better to learn your own job properly first & act more professionally. For a start, here are no rungs on fire service ladders.
Sorry that it triggered you mate, was just a joke. I have friends and family within the police, but you’re clearly rattled by a joke. Have a good day 😂
Iv passed the first interview and am going in to fitness next I’m so excited
Well done and good luck!

Went for my tests about a month ago, I passed 3/4. I went over the time limit on the equipment carry, that being said, I got a second chance and reduced my time by about 40 seconds. Happy to say I've passed my medical now too and am waiting on a start date for my recruits course. I couldn't tell you how many times I've come to watch this video, really was worth all those watches.
Congratulations Shane, you should be really proud of yourself. Thanks for the comment too mate, I am really pleased that the video helped you!

Any tips fopr passing the practical tests? in particular closed space?
@@richardm9879I think the best advice I can give is to just try to stay calm and focus on your breathing. You’ll be wearing a BA set and mask, but there won’t be air flowing through the set. You’ll be able to breathe of course, but it is sort of through a filter, which does come as a surprise to a lot of people. You’ll also be blindfolded for half of it which of course doesn’t help 🙄 You complete the course the first time without the blindfold, then once you reach the end the timer is paused while they fit the blindfold and send you in again to complete the same course in reverse. My advice (and really the only reason I did it in time!!) is to get through the first half AS FAST AS YOU CAN. I absolutely sped through it while I could see where I was going, then in the second half when I was blindfolded I had a lot more time to negotiate it blind. If your course is the same as mine, it was a “cage” structure. I found it helped me go faster if I put my fingers in the cages and used them to propel me forwards. I did bang my head a few times, but you’re wearing a helmet and to be honest nobody cares how you do it, it’s just that you do! Remember that everyone there wants you to succeed. If you’ve put in the work and you have good cardio fitness, you CAN do this. Just use your time wisely, get through the course fast when you can see where you’re going, then when you’re blindfolded just close your eyes and do the best you can. The mask you wear is surprisingly comfortable considering what it is. Do you have any concerns in particular?
@@moreattractionvideos Thank you so much for the advice. My main worry is getting disorientated and not completing it in time. I'm reading about people coming back out the same way they came in without realising
@@richardm9879ugh what a nightmare. If I’m honest I can’t imagine how that would happen. With the BA set on your back, it’s quite tight in there. Most of it is crawling room only (I assume every service has similar?) - so being able to turn around completely would be very hard work! When I did mine I remember it being sort of a case of feeling around from left to right to find where the course goes next - and if there wasn’t a way out, checking above. There wasn’t really a lot of room to physically turn around if you know what I mean? The truth is though that you can’t really prepare for this very much because there’s no way to practice or try it out. I think the fact you’re researching this shows that you’re doing all the prep you can. Good luck with it all mate - I’m sure you’ll smash it 💪
Funny how the Fire service running test is closer to the Royal Airforce Standards than the bloody police XD
Tell me about it 😂
Used to do similar things at high school j.c.r Jump Chin ups Run as in shuttle run Fire service is a popular job in my hamily brother cousin and uncles all served in Manchester fire service from the 1970s to present

Hi mate wicked video, i really want to apply and am going to re sit my maths and English GCSE's and dedicate myself. - I'm also curious, when you pass out are you able to work at your local fire station or are you recruited elsewhere? I cant find much information online about this and eager to know how it works. Cheers !
Hi Frank, thank you! If you are on call it will be at your local station, if you are whole time you apply for a station but this may not be your local one. It depends on if you get the job at that station, you may be in a different county to where you live. Good luck!

Thank you! Good luck with everything Charlie, I’m sure you’d make a great fire fighter
Where are your videos

I got to ask as I've been interested in joining the fire brigade is it like driving lessons in the sense of they give you lessons on how to do this thing before they assess you
For the fitness test, no. But when you get past this and the medical and get on your basic training then yes. You’ll have 2 week training course for on call followed by a number of weekends or week day night over 12 weeks. They teach you everything and then assess you to make sure you’re safe to ride (do the job)
