@@nathanaelgazzard7989 for me, family subjects are the most tender. Songs like Future Bird by Vola;The Salesman, The Husband, The Lover by The Receiving End of Sirens; Hello Drifter by Spiritbreaker. Lower Still by My Epic is another tearjerker.

Hey brother! Thank you for your essay, I appreciate all of it. I really like your description of how we sometimes use our gifts to lash out against God, but He still uses it all for His glory and our good. Great insight. And I can't tell you how many times I've thought about having a super theologically solid Christian band version of Tesseract specifically. There are some GREAT Christian metalcore bands today (Convictions comes to mind), but it felt like the full orbed prog metal band that makes concept albums with movements and heavy instruments...doesn't exist in the way I was hoping they would. I could be totally wrong, and maybe they do exist out there, but I haven't quite found the perfect mix of rich theology and prodigious song writing. Another album that I would love to see a Christian iteration of would be Februus by Uneven Structure. I know I've heard Karnivool, but I can't remember any of their songs. Thanks for checking out my review! Oh man...I just read the lyrics to Follower and checked out another couple songs. I'm seeing a bunch of recurring themes that seem to point to very specific family events in Jonas's life, and I'm...blown away. If he's hinting at the things it seems he is, then wow his lyrics are darker than I thought. I really liked the music on TGCD too, so the song is definitely in my list now.

@MetalSharpensMetal Well, before I was christian I was a 80's metal(DIO, Iron Maiden) and 90's thrash guy. I still like those genres, but don't like the message so I stick to christian bands. My wife and I met through metal and have recently started making our own. Our goal is to make some metal jams for Jesus that our brothers and sisters in Christ can enjoy for free. We ain't there yet, but that's the goal.

Ya I find the intro of Delete/Rewind and The Blues to be pretty hardcore, blended with punk. I can't really think of a classic punk band off the top of my head, but even like a darker Blink 182 or New Found Glory would fit here

@@MetalSharpensMetal Its an aptly named album Ghost Reveries. Everything since My Arms Your Hearse has been about ghosts in some capacity. The music being haunting only further seals the deal.

I'm not a Catholic and have no authority there. I would first recommend you leave Catholicism and its treadmill of works and doctrines that aren't found in the Bible. That said, as a protestant who also believes in hell, I don't have a problem hearing Manuel describe his struggles in this song.

Hey thanks for the kind words! Getting to the deeper meaning is definitely my goal here. And noted about Architects. Knocked Loose...haha I have some thoughts. First impressions of the new album is that they had bad Christian experiences growing up and want to vent about it now. I never really liked their genre of pissedcore so I hadn't planned to do a vid on them unless people asked.

Hahaha I'm not gonna touch that with a 10 ft pole because that wasn't the point of that story. Does he really sound like a sober-minded Christian when he talks about things (often in contradicting ways) and now wants to create an adult entertainment company? Just saying we shouldn't determine heaven or hell for someone in the moment, but we should be considering the fruit.

I get it, it's not an easy pill to swallow. If there's true repentance in anyone's life it's going to take time to build back trust, but as Christians, we're also called to put away all bitterness while still being shrewd about his claims and present actions. A hard line to walk, but that's Christ's standard.

This comment is so late, but I feel your comment to/about ‘God’, is very disingenuous to Him, and also to Tom. It’s not about comparing the two. It’s always about your ‘PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP’ to either. I was raised Catholic, and I’m not a Catholic now, but I still respect people’s decisions to believe what they want ‘as long as they don’t enfringe’ on other people’s right to live their lives.

​@@MetalSharpensMetala little. They are local to ohio and my brother has gone to a ton of their shows. I dont know enough to speak deeply on it. Also, dangerous is another new one that is a banger, lyrics by matt. The song is about p0rh addiction actually. Defender is about how Matts dad defended him during his the divorce that it sounds like his wife initiated. Thats another whole issue. Sadly both jake and matt have been through divorce and even if they were totally righteous in the situation it is hard to go through that and come out unscathed.

Hey, welcome to the channel! Thanks for the thoughtful comment too. I'm not trying to kick them out of the kingdom by any means, but (if I were talking to them) would be prompting them to examine their own hearts about it. I agree I can't mindread and don't know for certain if they fear man. But those verses I mentioned don't preclude us from pointing out concerning issues in brothers. I had a thought experiment the other day to help describe some of my confusion. Take the motivational lyrics from a secular band of non Christians and compare them to some of the bands that call themselves Christian. Compare a whole album even. Would you have a good indication which band is which? If not, it points to a faith that might be trapped in the band's ribcage, rather than an outstretched candle like their artwork shows.

@@MetalSharpensMetal We agree that their music has become less gospel centered over time. I would just disagree that the reason for that change is because they are in someway more ashamed of the gospel than they used to be. It could be the reason, or it could not be! If your brother sins, absolutely - call him to repentance. I'm just throwing out a general warning of immediately attributing the reason of something to be sinful. Very difficult to explain this over text, I'm sure we are talking passed each other to some extent. lol

@@kontainedkhaos7293 I think I understand. You're saying it's kinda a 50/50 chance that's the reason. I don't even know that I called this a sinful potential move on their part in the video, but I can see how you'd make that connection. At the end of the day, I just want someone who's a Christian to be bold with their faith (more gospel centered!). I believe our theology and understanding of the gospel comes out through our fingertips and our lips, so it starts to paint a picture over time that things might not be on the right trajectory. I'd rather address those things earlier than see someone shipwreck their faith.

Welcome to the channel! These guys have made some great music, and it's definitely significant that they've been a cohesive group for so long. I just have a much different view (as you probably gathered) in that if you are a Christian in a band, your views should be coming through in the lyrics, talking at shows, etc. I'll have a lot to say about that when I get around to my Underoath video lol, cause that seems like an even starker example.
