St Mary's Church, Portsea - restoration of Horn 8'
zhlédnutí 2,1KPřed 3 lety
In our restoration of the 1889/1892 J.W. Walker & Sons organ of St Mary’s Church, Portsea, one of the technical challenges is returning the organ to its Victorian tonal ethos. Various modifications were made in the 1960s. The Swell Horn 8’ suffered three indignities. Firstly, a new C1 resonator was made, and all the other resonators and blocks were moved up one. A new shallot was added to trans...

Our restoration of the 1885 III/34 Denman organ for St Lawrence Parish Church, York, is almost complete. Here's a preview - by our head voicer James Atherton - of how this flagship instrument of a York organ builder in the Victorian era is now sounding. This organ has not been heard for 20 years, and was in very poor condition for many years prior to that. The organ was built for St Michael le ...

Lovely organ well played. The space would better serve as a classical concert hall rather than what they do with it.

Beautiful organ wasted in a demonic excuse for a church.

This is a gorgeous instrument with subtlety unlike some modern instruments :-(

I imagine the modern "worship ' style has made, in many churches, the poor old pipe organ a tad obsolete. So well done HT Brompton for making the effort and maintaining this rather fine instrument and showing real vision.

Good organ. Shame the church has desecrated the sanctuary with that hideous projector screen, and a drum-kit I think I can spot too.

Well, that should give the worship band suitable competition 🤣 Lovely to hear and learn about such a rarely displayed instrument.

  • @erikthenorviking8251

A beautiful, rather rare instrument, especially for Dupre and Demessieux having recorded on it in its original home. It desperately needs to be put on CD, and Hauptwerk'ed.

How do you tune the Diapason 16 foot bass wooden pipe ? There are no stoppers on top of the pipe/ I also noticed a small pin by the mouth of the pipe at the bottom....... may i use that to tune it ?

Wonderful restoration work. Please do consider increasing the production quality of the videos you post in order to showcase your superlative (IMHO) work. Organs are notoriously difficult to microphone and aren't properly captured by the built-in microphones of a handheld camera. Carrying high quality mics, booms, cables, mixing board, etc. is a grisly nuisance but will let CZcams put your best foot forward. The world deserves to hear the sonic magic instruments built or touched by your firm can conjure.

Interesting! Presumably this is the instrument on which both Dupré and Demessieux made some recordings in the 1940's when it was in St Mark's. Nice to see that it still has the Septieme on the Choir - the 1939 R&D in Holy Rude, Stirling also originally had a Septieme (now turned into a 1 1/3') which could give an almost bell-like effect when used along with the 8' and 2' flutes
