Kia Stonic review - Real People, Real Reactions
We've asked five real people to give us real reactions on the brand new Kia Stonic.
Every week we review numerous cars on the Car Buyers Guide website. It’s a job we love doing, but a few weeks ago we decided to find out what non-motor journalists think about the cars in our market. In this month’s feature we film and find real reactions from real people regarding some choice cars on the market in Ireland.
Car Buyers Guide brought five potential buyers to Mondello Park to drive five different cars to get their impressions. Kia recently launched its new B-segment crossover to the Irish market, the Kia Stonic. The Stonic has serious competition from the likes of the Nissan Juke, Toyota C-HR, Peugeot 2008 and Mazda CX-3. The Stonic we had was specced with the 1.4MPI naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 100hp.
The Stonic’s styling is one that is funky therefore aiming it at younger buyers. Prices start from €18,599 for the K1 1.2MPI petrol. The model that our driver’s drove was the K3 with the 1.4MPI engine. Each driver liked the look of the Kia and the way it drove. We reckon Kia are onto a winner with this one.
For our other real reactions reviews, follow the cards in the video.

    It's true. I have an Audi Q2. First I didn't like the firm suspension but now I'm used to it and love it. The car always stays stable and comfortabele at high speed and when I'm passing another car on a country road. Feels very safe.

    The 1.6 turbo petrol is very impressive and even moreso in the elite trim. Biggest down sides for me are rear visibility and pretty poor stereo. Lack of keyless go is a minus for some but actually i quite like turning a key... Apart from that, this car is outstanding for the money. It makes the "big boys" look a bit stupid. My only gripe with the elite is the wheel design which looks a bit boring. You would be a fool not to consider this over a Golf or Focus purely because of the badge. Oh one other thing that is bad is wind over the mirrors gets really bad really fast with windows down.

    I´ve had a 225xe now for almost a year. It is absolutely fantastic! I was very skeptical at first, having had big 5 series BMW´s. But this has turned out to be a very versatile allround car. It is subtle and quiet in the everyday city driving. There are chargers everywhere and I can use the electric motor about 95% of the time when in the city. When I travel further it has a very good fuel consumption. I start off with full electric batteries which gets me about 40-50 kilometres. (I have the newer 10kW battery) Then it switches to the petrol engine. I´ve learned to utilize the settings to the fullest. I sometimes put it on "eco pro" so I can use the coasting where it disengages both engines and doesn´t regenerate power to the battery because that slows the car down. I also take full advantage of the regenerating when going downhill and sometimes switch from "eco pro" to "comfort" to switch on and off the generator to balance the speed for example when going down maintain roads or steep hills. The fuel consumption on long drives is about 5.5 l/100km. In the city it´s about 0-1.5 l/100km. I do take a lot of long journeys across the country for work and i did restart the on board computer right after I bought the car. Then I use the "road trip computer" for each journey to see the individual short term consumption. The average consumption since I bought the car and after 21.000 km is 4.0 l/100km. It is very fun to drive and great for overtaking. It has a lot of standard equipment and I´m very pleasantly surprised by how it keeps making me happier and happier. I did have it remapped for more power. And boy oh boy does this car have potential to be a real beast! It was good before but now it is an absolutely perfect "sleeper". It is now 5.8 seconds doing 0-100 km/h! And it just goes on and on until after about 130 km/h it´s acceleration slows down a bit. Probably because the elecric motor stops helping around that speed. Where I live the winters are very hard. I did have an x-drive 4x4 5 series before this one. The 225xe is an outstandingly better car in the snow! It´s bottom isn´t as spacious and have as long distance between wheels. The 5 series did have a tendency to sit on it´s "belly" and get stuck. The 225 also has a pretty high road clearance (17cm) without compromising it´s driving handling. So, I get to use a good BMW thats good to drive without almost any fuel in the city AND I can take long journeys with a fast, comfortable car without worrying about range at all and with a very good fuel consumption. And in the city, on my family MPV, I can whenever I want hit the "Auto Drive" and "Sport" setting and have a lot of fun with great, dynamic BMW feel to it 😎. Could not recommend this car any more for people that want to have a practical, spacious, fun car that gets the "goods" from both worlds without worrying about range!

      Would you say its still worth buying used? I can get a 3 year old with 65k miles and supposedly 10kw battery. Anything to worry about? is the electric range still good for you? I drive approx. 15-20miles max daily and occasional trip further afield. Have you had any issues with the car? Thanks

    • @Turbulence1976
      @Turbulence1976 Před rokem

      @@ImSeekingKnowledge I´ve driven the car now 30k kilometres since I bought it november 2021. Unfortunately I had an accident on it one week ago and it is probably going to be used for parts, it got hit that bad. But the plus side is that I didn´t feel a thing and was amazed by how much of the hit was absorbed by the car. But during this time that I´ve had it it hasn´t let me down. It if fantastic in snow, great to drive, really frisky in overtaking and such and usually has a lot of nice features included as standard. It does make a little bit more road noise than the average BMW. You can feel that it is a bit heavy when going over speed bumpers and such due to the heavy battery. The boot isn´t the spaciest around.. but.. In all fairness the car scores very high on almost every level.. but just doesn´t reach TOP score on any of them. But the fact that it is so good on so many levers outscores it in my opinion. But final verdict.. Am I going to buy the same car again after mine got crashed? No. I want to try something different next time. I feel I need a little bit bigger car. My next choice will probably be fully electric or Hyundai Tucson diesel, which I think is a great all-round car. Hope this helps.
