ARMSTRONG boards signal test v2
zhlédnutí 1,5KPřed 7 měsíci
Although this test was done on a lake (so on flat water) the results are very conclusive - very good signal connection with the DW boards and the wing boards, as long as part of the board was kept out of the water. If the board goes underwater signal cuts out quickly - but this is true of most full carbon boards and is not specific to Armstrong. The prone boards (ironically called 'wing surf') ...
Light wind winging with the gen 2 Foil Drive
zhlédnutí 3,4KPřed 8 měsíci
The gen 2 Foil Drive has helped my winging so much, both for getting on foil in super light winds (and using a smaller wind-wing) or for using a size smaller foil in high wind. In both instances it gives me the confidence to go further and longer without the worry of what happens if the wind drops. With NOTHING to install on the deck and a super discreet hydrodynamic battery box and motor pod t...
THIS IS HYBRID FOILING - with the Gen 2 Assist Max from Foil Drive
zhlédnutí 4,9KPřed 8 měsíci
A little taste of what the Assist Max is capable of - It lets you access locations and conditions you couldn't foil in before. It gives you the power to get on foil even with a small board and foil. It gives you so much run-time that you can motor around hunting and linking swell and waves for longer than your legs can last. It provides the safety to get yourself out of trouble and back to shor...

Axis rear stabs SKINNIES vs PROGRESSIVES

My obsession with rear stabs continues. Having fallen in love with the progressive range a long time ago, I was reluctant to give much of my foil time over to the skinnies, and as such I think my bias prevented me from giving them a fair go when I was first given them to test. However, despite my predisposition towards the progressive range, I realised that I was actually beginning to choose a ...

I'd like to see more discussion about the ability to pump different wings. It's really hard to know if the problem is skill or having the right equipment. Although I'm old (68), I'm a decent wakeboarder and have become very comfortable riding the foil. But the pumping escapes me. I can pump away from the boat for 10-15 secs and then nothing. About 1 1/2 ago I bought the Slingshot FPUMP package assuming that it would be ideal for pumping. The Quantum 100 is huge and sluggish. I didn't see it as being pumping foil. Fortunately, it enabled me to drop the rope and ride continuously, which was my immediate goal at the time. This is me on the foil. czcams.com/video/wUhyuTcTZzo/video.htmlsi=rLHzXe5jWuW6nGQL

I’m afraid I have no experience with slingshot so I don’t know what their foils are like for pumping. From that video it looks likeyou are moving the board (and foil) up and down in the water too much (a porpoising action). Focus on keeping the board more parallel to the water with each pump. You have to have a bit of down/up movement, but not that much or you kill your speed.

I used to live 10km from the airport and my usual 4km and 8km DW run was on that stretch of beach. Kite beach was halfway between my house and the airport. This is probably a stupid question... How do you get into the prone position you are when you start your video. Surely you can't go from the back because the batterybox will be in your way. So I assume one will get up from the side of the board and then swing your leg over to get to the prone position? I'm curious as I'm preparing to receive a Gen 1 demo FDA Plus after being 2 yrs into wingfoiling and reasonably proficient (can gybe, low wind foiling, etc). I've got a 90l AK Phazer and mainly use a FOne 1290 Phantom. Should I consider moving the FD to the side of the board as I've seen you do on some of your boards? I'll appreciate any advice. Regards. When you switched to the advance which moves the mast forward 40mm relative to the wing, did you also move the mast forward 40mm on the board track? If you do that the wing, fuse, tail, and board all stay in the same relative location; only the mast moves forward. If you did this, I don't see how advanced vs standard would affect the lift profile. I suspect the lift changes you saw were because you effectively moved the wing back 40mm relative to the board. Overall very interesting review and amazing footage!

Just measured the span of the stabiliser I made beginning of this year to go with my 850 span 1320sqcm and 900 span 1020 wings and it's 360. I find a short quick pump and glide works really well on it. I was initially surprised that I don't stall it holding front foot pressure in waves coming from bigger stabilisers where that had been an issue but now I'm just used to it and love it. I exclusively wing though, the pumping is just for lulls 😆 I did try a wider span axis stabiliser with an ART but I found it locked in too much going out through waves with.

I didn't try an Advance Axis fuselage until late last year and it was a game changer. I suspect there are other manufacturers that already figured this out but as I've been designing my own foils to fit Axis I had the same difference changing to the advance fuselage. I had heard, remembered some discussion that it had a more surfy, turny feel but until I tried it... So the short story is, I realised that my foils and the non Advance fuselage were both working against yaw controlled turning and were why I had been relying on widely spread feet along the main board axis and why my gybing was so retarded. So I redesigned my 2024 foils with this in mind and some other tweaks of my own and I couldn't be more pleased. Now I ride my feet in line with my board the moment I'm up on foil and my gybes are so much easier. Thinning your wingtips more than just natural chord scaling alone enhances the advantages of the Advance fuselage.

@dominichoskyns9091 Dom, do you think the RS still holds out against new generation wings like the Armstrong XPS? I love my RS wings and I'm probably going to replace my quiver this year. But I feel I am going to regret it and the XPS won't live up to my RS wings.

Hi, great video. I'd like to know if I can flat water sup foiling on my Reptile R-Foil Classic 2500 or R-Foil High 2000. It's impossibile or just harder to learn? Maybee a shorter mast like 45cm would help come out of the water earlier? Or change to Axis is the only solution? Thanks

Hi Dom, great videos, thanks for posting. I really like my RS 5.1 and am looking to add a low wind option for the quiver. Did you ever get the chance to try to 7.2m RS? I'm considering the CWC V3 as well, but the reviews on the V3s seem to suggest they are less powerful than the V2.

What size carbon mast are you on?

Are you holding the trigger throttle (ie not attached to the boom). Seems like a super hack. Any plans for a simplified “throttle only” remote that would be attached to a boom to support either hand actuating it. I just took delivery on FD Max and will try it tomorrow.
