The British Conquest of India (1798-1806) V. The 2nd Anglo-Maratha War: Holkar
How did Britain conquer the Maratha Empire? In this video (Part 5 of a 5-part series), we go over the second half of the 2nd Anglo-Maratha War, where the expansion of British India was brought to a halt with an unexpectedly hard-fought campaign against the Maratha domain of Yashwantrao Holkar. After that, there will also be a brief discussion on the historical implications of British Indian hegemony, and also on the many parallels between it and Revolutionary France's attempted hegemony over Europe.

A superior objective is an Eastern and Western Indo European and allies alliance. Extreme individualism and extreme collectivism each have their own problems. More or less authoritarian and libertarian monarchies and republics can be allied. Further all Indo Europeans have ancient ties and cultural ties. Things like family values, merit and understanding of cycles are universal. I agree that "progressivism" is delusional and destructive. The West needs some Eastern influence and vice versa. Islamic states are inherently totalitarian, they will never be ideal allies. The CCP will never be a reliable ally either. The spread of both need to be reversed in Russia and in the West. An Indo European or East West Eurasian and Anglo Sphere allimace would benifit all involved and once established would logically provide greater stability to all nations. It would include all Western countries, including Mexico, etc. and all of Eastern Europe and Russia, India and allies like Japan, Indonesia and so on. Diplomatic pressure can also be put on Iran to return more to their Zoroastrian roots and be part of the trade alliance. This alliance would make any issues from China or the Islamic states managable. They should be left to have their own spheres but be contained and allowed to evolve internally. The same generally would go for Africa in a friendly way and trade should still be welcome internationally with national and regional priorities at the forefront. If the Indo European people do not make peace then it makes the whole world more dangerous. If they do not they will also gradually be over run and submerged, as we are already seeing. Globalist uniculturalism is also a problem to be defeated like any other totalitarian ideology, with better ideas and better practice. I say this as an American who is proud of my country and also one who knows the depth of my roots. It is wise to make peace where possible, especially among brothers and work towards peace more widely from there, leading by example. We can start doing this by making peace in Russia and Ukraine, with a reasonable agreement and a reconciliation of some kind. If this is possible then it sets the tone for all.

Though this book offered some insight, there are some serious flaws in its assumptions and derivation. F irstly, for peninsular war, the French can reinforce Spain/Portugal by land through the Pyrenees. The major reason French did not do that is because on the Eastern Front it has to keep massive army to cater the threat from Austria (in 1809) and Russia, instead of blockage by British. The British also attempted a landing to support Austria in the fifth coalition, but without the support of land forces of other powers, failed. For WWI, the British did try the 'limited war' approach in the Dardanelles expedition operation but failed miserably. It was difficult to British to not mobilize fully as a continental power does if it wants to protect/show support to its allies. If france fails it is clear that British cannot threaten Germany on its own (as proven in WWII after France lost before intervention by US & USSR). In the peninsular war and WWII, the British strategically retreated after initial failure in battle on land in Spain (1808) and France (1940), then re-landed and won the war the the help of local Spanish/ US troops. It can be concluded that Britain as a seapower will have to rely on a continental power to threaten other continental power, thought the 'limited warfare' approach did offer a cost-effective way to protect its homeland, and wait for the appropriate timing (i.e. alliance with other continental power) to beat its enemy, in addition to tie down more enemy troops and facilitate expedition actions.

I think Mahan strategy is more relevant now then compared to 20th Century with the rise of the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) to challenged the dominance of the United States Navy (USN) in the Pacific and living in a country that is part of this region. I think his thesis is also relevant to non-US Allies, especially rebuilding a navy from scratch after decades of neglect and being over reliant on Allies rather then maintaining if not expanding the navy of my country.
