Excellent, as always!
Im sorry but i didnt hear any examples of fluff to avoid.
Love your thoughts on education.❤
Great video! When you say you plan 6 weeks for unit studies, 4 weeks autodidact, and 6 weeks academics, do you do them in that order, or vary them out throughout the year?
This all wonderful advice! Thank you so much for sharing from your experience, wisdom, and heart. 🙏✨
Very encouraging, thank you!
I enjoy learning from your wisdom ❤
Thank you so much, I was literally confused about how to do phonics for elementary. ❤❤❤this is great
I'm so glad this was helpful to you!
Thank you so so much for this video! You have no idea how much this has helped me. You are truly a blessing ❤
Thank you so much! Plan to watch again after the kids go to bed and take notes. I have been homeschooling for 10 years and am feeling overwhelmed with 5 officially school age. This is just what I need.
That “homeschool is not a circus…” quote made me giggle!! It’s so true though.
Mrs. Hayes thank you for this very helpful video. I know you're looking for ideas, so would you be able to do a video on how to put together a unit study and can you kindly explain a bit more on how the autodidact sessions work? God bless you and your family.
Sure, I could combine both the unit study and the autodidact ideas--a number of people seem to be interested in these two areas.
@@MomDelightsYes, please! I am so intrigued! I have been homeschooling for 11 years, graduated 2 and have 3 more to go. I need fresh ideas this year. Thank you so much for encouraging and inspiring us!
Mrs. Hayes, would you do a video on how to plan a unit study? Also, how do you do the autodidact session? Do you do give a guide? Thank you for this very valuable information. God Bless you and your family.
I second this. I've watched quite a few from other people but I'm still just so lost on how exactly to implement it. I can gather all the things for it, no problem. I've already got a pretty good head start. But what to do each day and how precisely to get lessons planned out? NO CLUE and I feel ridiculous admitting it because it should be, imo, a no-brainer.
Sure, these two areas are popping up a lot in the comments. Sounds like these will be the subjects of my next video!
What age do you start Having your children read their own books?
I don't really go by age, but by ability and maturity. Some children read early, but they can't be trusted to read an entire book on their own unless they are really enthused. I wait until they have more ability to focus.
Wow, THANK YOU!!
You are very welcome!
5:33 ❤️
What ages are you homeschooling in your home this year?
Great question--we're down to only two; a 17 yo and a 15yo!
@@MomDelights wow! That's awesome. I would love and appreciate a video on what it's like to homeschool only two after so many years of homeschooling a large famly. Also, what are your plans for the future? Help homeschool grandkids? Maybe travel or write? I am learning so much from you about homeschooling and life. God bless! And thank you!!
❤❤❤
Yes I would love a more detailed video on your autodidact.
That would be so fun to do!
You explain things so well! 😊❤
Thank you!
One thing , we have done, our entire HS journey, has been fun Fridays! We focus a lot more on interest led topics, playing educational games , baking , educational tv shows/movies , etc . As the kids got older, we were all reading different books , of our own choice . We had a “ book club”, where we would sit & drink decaf coffee or tea & share with one another what we liked & disliked about our books . This worked great if we were all reading the same book as well, but I discovered, it’s still so much fun when we are reading different books! We also had days where we would each get an encyclopedia , pick something random to read about, & share with each other . I think I need to start our “ book club “ & encyclopedia days, back up again!! 😊 It’s the most rewarding thing in the world, to get to bond with your kids ! To break up the monotony, sometimes, one of the kids will do the teaching on a subject ! That is really fun ! 😀
Wow--sounds like so much fun to homeschool at your house!
@@MomDelights thank you !! 😊

So glad!
Do you happen to have the lists you created for your World Studies as a printout on your website?🙂
Great question--in my plans somewhere is the idea of taking all these lists, combining them, and offering them as a part of the curriculum collection I am making, which will also be available for free :)

Woah hold on a bit…. My ten year old is in 5th grade and he is about half way done in book one. Are you sure he should be in book 3??? I am so confused. And the math is just about 5th grade level too.
I'm genuinely sorry that I said something which confused you in this video. I honestly don't remember what I said about that, but I want to encourage you to use your own best instincts, which are more valuable than anything I might say in my videos :)
You are a treasure Sherry. 💖 In a world of buy, buy, buy it is refreshing to see what you have to offer and have done with free books.
Bless you!
Thank you!! I was looking at science curriculum... realizing the time consuming books weren't going to be worth the expense. Then I remembered Sherry and came back to rewatch ❤
My pleasure :)
I love the covers. Great work! I look forward to them.
Thank you!
Have you seen mystery of history? Would you recommend it?
My daughter has used Mystery of History and says it is really good.
At what age/grade level would you start going over history with your children? And would you recommend I start by just doing something like a read aloud using the autobiographies?
You could start as early as eight or so, but gently, as most children do not remember very much content from that age. Read alouds, especially short stories, would be a great idea.
I love your guide and use it for book shopping when I'm out. Very excited for your planning video. I would love to know how you pair down I'm always doing too much and also have a hard time gauging how to challenge and not frustrate my kids. On another note, I've recently heard about a new curriculum that uses John senior's booklist called the Children's tradition and I was wondering your thoughts on the different education philosophies out there.
The Children’s Tradition sounds so good! Although I am awful at following other’s plans.
@Dreblueskies me too! But I like the idea of a booklist like Robinson Curriculum and Ambleside that I can just keep using.
@@ezekielfenjavandehei3189 I agree with that. I printed the John Senior book list but $100 for the formatted curriculum I am not sure about.
I haven't reviewed the curriculum, but I have looked at the list. I thought a lot of the books included were only so-so. It may be helpful, but I would not rely on it solely. I think you have to take the best from a number of sources.
The Lord knew I needed this right now! I’ve been asking around on what to do for my child who needs third grade material since we can’t afford curriculum for now. I’ve been on your website some but I haven’t heard of all of these so thank you! Thank you for all your generosity, it’s truly a blessing! Please will you do another for upper elementary? This child I’ve been talking about can do a grade level in six months, reads whole big chapter books in a day, at most a week, and loves to learn all things! This child is extremely curious about everything so there is lots of questions and rabbit trails happening daily. It’s a lot to keep up with but I’m doing all I can to help her with the Lord helping me 😂
Wow, what a great adventure you are on! I think notebooking could help you gather it all together.
I've been so impressed by Heritage History. I print their books the same way as you, but use 2-hole punch prongs for the binding. Super fast and easy. Thank you for all of your free resources and recommendations! I have used almost all of them.
The two-hole punch prongs are a great idea for the Heritage History books--so thankful to God for their ministry.
Could you use this for an older child? Struggling reader, spelling wasn't a priority until now.
I use all of your freebies. I am so thankful that you have made so much available to us for free, and I also do the composition books too. Thank you for sharing how to homeschool for cheap or free. Without it, some of us may not have been able to afford to homeschool. God Bless your lovely soul.
This is my goal! I thank God He is enabling me to do it!
Thank you! ❤
My pleasure!
Thank you for this video. So much good information, I am going to share with friends. Looking forward to the next one!
Thank you so much for sharing! glad this was a blessing to you.
You have been such and inspiration and blessing to the home education community. A modern day pioneer of simplicity and strength in teaching our children even with tight budgets. Personally, I have found the best curriculums have been old time programs that were popular forever ago. A First Year in Number, Primary and Intermediate Language Lessons, McGuffey readers and so much more!
Bless you, Berrypatch, you always encourage me :)
Thank you so much! This is SO helpful❤️❤️❤️ I’m looking forward to your next video on planning. 😊
That makes me so happy!
Looking forward to the upper years resources. I'm well acquainted with your younger resources but would like to start preparing for the next phase.
The upper years can seem like such a mystery. I hope to have more information that will hopefully clear some of the fog soon.
THANK YOU 🙏🏼
You are quite welcome :)
Nearly all the books I am studying from are public domain. I do not have a good printer so I try to get quality reprints.
