Make sure it’s not an install issue. Then call Manitowoc. They’ll take care of you under warranty. They’re awesome people.

No , two different components.

No. TXV’s meter the flow of refrigerant into the Evaporator so that ice can be form. The Hot Gas valve allows hot gas refrigerant to enter the Evaporator so the ice can slide off the evaporator after it freezes.

I use a pipe brush. For the 1/4 inch hoses I use a pipe brush with the bristles cut off so that it’ll fit in the small hole.

Love your advice! Your method is definitely a solid method to complete this job. I’ve always been a little hesitant about pinching the copper but I’ve never had a problem with doing it that way. The comments left on this video were pretty hateful. Apparently there’s a lot of people who think this is a terrible idea. Honestly I’m just following Manitowocs guidance on completing this repair. Sounds like you’ve figured it out. The low water float is what sends the machine into harvest.

I know it seems strange but this is the procedure given by the Manufacturer. If they hadn’t told me to do it I would 100% with you.

Call the manufacturer , I'm sure you know better than the people who designed the system and defined the procedure .

Pinching the line just stops the refrigerant from flowing out. Welding it is what seals the line.

@@IceMachine411 Yeah, sorry. I phrased it poorly. How can the pinching stop the stuff inside and then releasing it opens it? I didn't know it's possible with a metal pipe.

I think it’s because it’s copper. Copper is softer and more malleable.

He applies a little heat then uses channel loks to open that pinch back up

I assume it’s possible if not done correctly. I have not seen one damaged by using this procedure.

Fairly common. I’ve replaced a few recently. Unfortunately they come as an assembly. Have to by the door frame. Can’t get the touch pad by itself.

That’s not good. Check to see if your harvest valve is stuck open. That’s a common problem with these machines.

The welds slowly break over time through the freeze/thaw process. Every once in a while you can just get a bad machine. Hoshizaki covers repairs under warranty for up to three years. You can also get the part only up to 5 years. I’d contact hoshizaki tech support and see what they can do for you.

@@IceMachine411 I tracked down the manual online and it would seem to be time based after evap reaches 32F. I presume this as the adjustment on the "digital" thickness adjustment equals "+/-90 seconds to freeze cycle". I'm not sure if I trust that method.

The Manitowoc is easier for me to clean. They take about the same amount of time. Really just comes down to preference. Hoshizaki ice machines use a ton of water.

It’s an Everpure filter I believe. You may want a filter with a higher capacity.

Press and hold both buttons for 6 seconds. If it doesn’t work then try the same thing but use the buttons on the control board.

Abra kadbra. Ha. Welding copper to stainless steel is tough. I’m not skilled enough to weld it in place. One day though….
