Is NPR's new CEO "anti-truth"?
zhlédnutí 7KPřed 3 měsíci
A campaign against NPR's new CEO, ex-Wikimedia Foundation Katherine Maher, is trying to portray her as "anti-truth" and "anti-First Amendment" by taking quotes out of context from her past talks about Wikimedia. As a longtime Wikipedian, I think I can give a little more context about these statements - but I recognize that the people behind this campaign are, ironically, not looking for the fac...

Molly White's life goal is to enclose all Americans in a socialist CBDC panopticon where your social credit score will get dinged for making a "sexist comment on Facebook." The ultimate longhouse dystopia shill. This is why she hates crypto, because it represents financial freedom and sovereignty.

It's nice to see somebody from the bitcoin space willing to talk with a researcher like Molly about this stuff from an inside perspective. I don't agree with Lyn about the overall politics and impact of bitcoin and crypto at all, but the step of coming on is appreciated. I still don't see how anybody could look at the combined assault and harassment roster of those conference speakers and conclude that the industry doesn't have a misogyny problem, but I guess between finance and software the misogyny is baked in

great talk but i disagree with "but it's unlikely that we would we will be fighting for revolution along the seam alongside the same Venture capitalists and tech companies who helped to get us into this mess in the first place". Those venture capitalists & companies always put their hands on everything, every new technology. And, there's nothing we can do to force them not doing so. Hate the game, not the player. If you're so anti-VC or anti big tech, then you're just being exclusive, which is ironically a trait of capitalists as well.

I am neither far right or far left, BUT, here we are again...I wish NPR would get back to its roots, and just be what they once were, an authentic newsworthy platform. Why spend hours defending or setting the record straight for the CEO? The ratings have obviously fallen drastically, because activism ---> Will NEVER BE EQUAL TO TRUE JOURNALISM. The stories have become repetitive, catering to a trendy media that doesn't want to offend anyone. BTW, I am so beyond sick of the right against left - left against right culture, cancel culture, blah, blah, blah The CEO is in a position to lead NPR to a better place, but sadly I see NPR heading to a place where it will end up canceling itself.

Most of web3 projects now are BS, they centralize as f and have a multiple central points, if cloud provider or gov want to censor them, they will be dead or as least paralyze and no longer useful to end user. But blockchain is interesting technology and have abilities to solve important problem (the trust problem with central entities), its worth time to research and invest on it. Just like many cutting edge technology like 3d printing or VR or CRISPR, remember how we talk about AI 20 years ago? AI still very far away from what we imagine but its much more useful now. Stay away from the hype but stick to the problem you want to solve

Quote out of context? What a pathetic deflection to hide her clearly stated beliefs. Did you watch her Ted talk? She parrots post-modernist nonsense like they're isn't objective truth. That everyone has their own truth. She conflated perceptions of the truth with the truth. You didn't disprove Rufo, you only tried to use ad homs and well poisoning to try to discredit the justified and accurate criticisms of the reality denying, post-modernist indoctrinated, far left propagandist Katherine Maher.

Well, NPR/PBS have both been far right wing for at least 30 years (and simply got boring culturally 20 years ago, pimping for the worst artists and musicians). She's former WEF and CFR and has worked for other deep state orgs within the government. She's a nazi psychopath with an extra 21st chromosome who speaks in meaningless jargon. We might also mention that Wikipedia--and the internet in general--is the greatest disseminator of bad information in human history.

Ceo of private corporations particularly of companies outside of communication companies have no obligation to their customers as to their political bias. Most do not because it is simply bad business, they do not want say something that may affect sales as sales is their means of survival. CEOs of publicly funded companies again particularly those responsible to deliver information to the public have a responsibility to keep their biases to themselves and ensure bias stays out of the material distributed because they are given money from the government so should respect the wide range of opinion and beliefs of all who are tragically compensating them. But, the CEOs tend to be quite brazen in their beliefs as there is no repercussions on the income to the company, and importantly to themselves. This lack of responsibility leads over time to starting a certain belief and an entitlement to that belief not only to allow it to starting in the company but to "enlighten the masses" on what position is "obviously right" , the belief that has been thoroughly examined within their echo chamber. In Canada, we have a much more entrenched public communicator ( CBC ) that is insulated from realty to the tune of 2B dollars a year. A once important service that ensured news and tv service across a large and sparsely populated country, it is now a bloated and expensive burocracy that exists mostly to maintain its own existence. Unsurpisingly, it delivers news and opinion pieces biased squarely to left of centre. I don't agree with removing all publicly funded communication companies, but we (western societies) seen unable to keep such organizations out of social progressive territory. I don't have an answer, but do wish that there could be honesty from seemingly intelligent socialists that win you take money from the public and proport to be for the public, that you make an effort to represet ALL of the public.

Thank you very much for this video, it was very insightful. Most of what you said about wikimedia sounded pretty much spot on. The thing about what is called mainstream media in the US is not that they give right wingers a platform, it is that they do their job so poorly that people find it hard to believe them anymore. NYT and NPR are destroying their reputation by silencing dissenting voices, the idea that NYT sometimes give platform to what you call "right wingers" is their attempt at showing themselves as unbiased. NYT destroys their reputation by quoting Hamas misinformation without checking (the Al Ahli "hospital bombing by Israel" title without any verifications). NPR portraying the war in Gaza as an act of aggression against civilians despite being one of the only media outlets to report about the military use of hospitals in Gaza in 2014 iirc. Wikipedia is a bit more protected from bias because it is so open (which makes it more credible imho). Meaning you can actually see who changed what topic. One example is that you can see who added the IDF as part of the massacarers in the Sabra and Shatila massacre and on what date, that user can be banned for disinformation (IDF did not take part in the massacre, it did not protect the Palestinians, but it did not massacre them). NPR is in trouble mostly imho because it recieves some public funding, which makes them a service to the public. I am sure you wouldn't like the KKK news outlet to be sponsored by tax payers because they cannot represent the the public at large.

I've experienced this myself, trying to correct biographical information on people where I even have the birth certificate of the person in my possession and cannot correct something on wikipedia because a "reliable" source made an error a long ago.
