The Phillips Collection
Registrace 14. 08. 2007
The Phillips Collection, America’s first museum of modern art, was founded in 1921. Located in the heart of the vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood, in Washington, DC, the museum is home to a growing, world-class collection of nearly 5,000 works of modern and contemporary art. Housed in Duncan Phillips’s family home and additions to it, the museum organizes internationally acclaimed exhibitions, offers lively programming, and conducts important scholarly research on the history of art. Phillips referred to the museum as an “experiment station,” and today it retains the founder’s personal stamp in a gathering of art that combines tradition and daring. One of the great pleasures of the Phillips is the unconventional way in which works by artists of different nationalities, periods, and styles coexist side-by-side in visual conversations within its galleries.

Horse manure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was completely charmed, horrified, and emotionally moved by this installation and it made me wonder about other people's experience of it: I felt it as deeply specific to my experience of the city in which I live, not that [anyone-from-there] is the horse, but the horse has switched places with [anyone-from-there] and briefly lives [anyone-from-there]'s life. Did other people "recognize" their respective cities, or maybe more properly, life-scapes, in this way?

You REALLY REALLY should have included this in the video I mean not including it is LITERALLY colonialism: *"The Phillips Collection, which is situated upon the ancestral and unceded lands of the Piscataway people, would like to pay its respects to their Elders, past and present. This acknowledgment reminds us of the significance of place, the continued existence of Indigenous and other people, and the museum’s commitment to building respectful relationships with those who call these lands home today."* _This is text about the Piscataway and Anocostans_ *"The Phillips Collection seeks to build mutually beneficial relationships with Native American communities, leaders, traditional knowledge holders, scholars, museum professionals, artists, and students, creating opportunities for the production and dissemination of knowledge in all its forms. This is a living land acknowledgement, and we will continue to revise and strengthen it in collaboration with community members."*
A legendary artist. His full name was Roland David Smith. He maintained a studio at Bolton Landing, New York, which is a small resort town on Lake George, 60 miles north of Albany.
